Several times this season we've been down 10 or under with a couple minutes to go and instead of trying to extend the game by fouling, we just let the opposition kill the clock. Anybody with insights on why we don't try to extend games by fouling?

I said it in another post...there were many times this year I lost a little bit of my initial excitement over SaulBall because of moments like you are talking about. My excitement on a scale of 1 to 10 for SaulBaul was an 11 at his intro presser. It continued to stay at that through much of the season but late in the year I am down to about a 5...not too pumped up, not too disappointed. But for a first-year coach it's dangerous that diehards like myself are Blah about him after one year. Hopefully he realized this group was a lost cause and we will see more next year.

yeah, because people are always saying "I wish the last minute of college basketball games would last longer, and with more fouling."

When someone farts in the car, you don't take the long way home.

You know, if it gives your team a chance to win, screw those who don't like it. I'm not talking about games that are out of reach. But if you're within three or four possessions with about two minutes to go, it's often worthwhile. TOS was a master at extending those types of games with substituting and fouling. We stole several wins with that late-game strategy while he was here.

I agree with you in theory Pataskala - extend games as long as you can. To me, part of that is taking the high percentage shot when it's two possessions or less. Shooting three's down 5 with a minute to go drives me nuts. Take it to the rim, and make the opponent play good D, or foul.

That said, if it's 9-10 with less than a minute left, I'm not sure it's worth the fouling if the opponent is in the double bonus.

We did?

I noticed this best while viewing the central michigan road game, the bobcats only ended up losing by 5, However they were down by 10 or so w/ a couple o' minutes remaining ..

maybe saul just wanted to get on w/ next year ..

You might be right but that's not my memory of TOS. I was probably his biggest defender on these boards and my memory is that he was absolutely drilled on these boards for his late game strategies. I do know that we had some pretty big comebacks under him, particularly in 2005. If I recall we nearly pulled one out at Ball State by sending them to the line. We also did the same thing in a tournament in Florida earlier but don't remember the team.
