In looking at their schedule, against fellow MAC opponents, they've been outclassed by Arkon and Toledo, but hung with Kent. My guess is that this is a game OUr guys are capable of winning by double digits if they show improvement on defense and limiting turnovers. Based on some box scores, they seem to have a few guys that are adept at creating pressure and steals.

Down year for CSU. Losing Anton Grady as a transfer really hurt. Have already lost to 3 MAC teams and I'll be very disappointed if it's not 4 after Saturday.

I have no idea why this game is at the Q. Tickets are cheap and should be plentiful.

For those traveling to Cleveland, the weather is expected to be warm with near record highs for this time of year with only a slight chance of rain. Public Square (just north and east of the Q) is still a mess but if you stay near the Q you should be fine.

Safe travels for those coming up and Go Cats!!

It's a somewhat optimistic effort by CSU to drum up interest from both opponents and local fans. From the story linked below:

In a news conference at Quicken Loans Arena, CSU officials expressed hope the partnership will entice larger schools such as Ohio State and Cincinnati to schedule games against the Vikings at The Q.

"I'm going to approach more high-level teams to see if they'll play here. I think they'll like that, primarily because they won't be playing on our home court,'' CSU men's coach Gary Waters said.

CSU president Ronald Berkman said the agreement for basketball games is a "beta test'' to see what effect playing games off campus has on the programs. He and Waters expressed confidence games at The Q will draw more fans who will view the game as the beginning of a night on the town.

Which is weird because Wolstein and the Q are within walking distance.

They're a mile apart, but a world apart in terms of easily accessed restaurants and entertainment amenities. The neighborhood around CSU is getting much better, but it's still not comparable to what's around the Q.

Now, as to why they built two large arenas so close together... that's a messy story and can change depending on who you ask. Wolstein was planned when the Cavs were still playing halfway to Akron in the Coliseum. Antiquated Public Hall was the only 10,000+ indoor venue downtown. Kevin Mackey just led CSU to the Sweet 16.

By the time the wheels got rolling on construction, Mackey had been caught with hookers and blow and fired, CSU hoops took a sharp turn south, the Q was built, and suddenly the Wolstein Center - which made perfect sense five years earlier - was a white elephant.

Mouse McFadden is a social worker for Cuyahoga County. He hasn't aged. Still looks like he could lace them up.

Anyway, I agree that this sets up to be a double-digit win. Looking forward to seeing the Cats for the first time this year up close.

I've always wondered why there wasn't a single building built downtown. With a brief look, it appears the Wolstein Center opened 6 months after ground was broken on The Gund. What a goofy deal with seemingly bad planning.

I would have shown up at Wolstein! I never checked. Wolstein is usually empty, as will be the Q.

Like I said, it is a messy story and it depends who you ask. I've heard lots of stories. Here's one version that may or may not be true: The CSU building was originally supposed to be around 20,000 seats with full arena capabilities (loges, ability to host hockey, etc.) Gund owned the Cavs at the time and was following the national trend toward downtown sports stadiums. He didn't want a downtown rival facility for major concerts, hockey and other big events. Some pressed various power levers to get CSU to scale down their arena, and an in-between bastard child was born. Wolstein is too big for CSU hoops and too small to attract national acts (especially when there's a 20,000+ arena down the street closer to more food and entertainment). Wolstein is a great building - I recommend catching any game there - but it's always empty. Wrong building in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Waters has been pushing for years to play games at the Q. Played Kent there last week. Believe they play Youngstown State too.

I work for a large company in the Cleveland area. They have been offering 4 free tickets to the game Saturday for the last few weeks. I've talked to a bunch of co-workers about taking the offer and bringing their family. Hopefully we can get some new fans out of this.

The company was offering the same free ticket deal for Kent last Saturday. Looks like the attendance for that game was listed at 3671. For reference, the MAC tourney semi between Kent and Akron last year had 4502 in attendance, and the finals drew 5266. CSU's only other home game (against Malone) drew 1331 to the Wolstein Center.

I've also heard a rumor that if plans for the Q had been finalized a little sooner, some of the state money for the Wolstein center would have been used to build something similar in Akron instead. I have no source or way of knowing if this was actually true or not.

As for the game itself, I think this is pretty critical if we're going to be an above .500 team this year. We can and should win, but this team is so wildly inconsistent that I don't know what to expect.

I agree with you that its a need to win in terms of being a barometer type of game. This team is what the bottom half/third of the MAC might look like given their down year, so beating this kind of team is needed.

I don't agree that they're wildly inconsistent. I actually think they're quite consistent. They consistently turn the ball over a little too much. The need to be a little better on defense has consistently been there as well. They also consistently shoot fairly well, which for me makes them pretty fun to watch thus far in 2015-16.

Unlike some of you, I don't forsee this being an easy game. Kent is probably a little better than us but they barely squeaked by the Vikings by four points.

Good win. Dartis started off real hot and Tony carried us down the stretch. His footwork in the post is looking real good. It's amazing what he can do when he stays out of foul trouble.

Solid win for the Bobcats. If this team continues to grow they could be very dangerous in the MAC Tournament!
