I know some dislike the manipulating of schedules because of ESPN deal but I love it. I'm sitting in my recliner on a Wednesday night in late January watching the Ohio women's basketball team lay a butt whipping on Akron.

Here is a question that perhaps someone can answer. Part of the deal with ESPN is a requirement that MAC Instiutions get "Broadcast Wired" for ESPN? I read several schools did it this season and that Ohio was going to complete the installation next year. Is this to make the broadcast easier to produce? I assume someone on the board could explain.

I have even noticed that some MAC swim meets and wrestling have been televised as well. In the future I would LOVE to see some Ohio Baseball games.

I can't give the technical specs of what ESPN's requirements are but essentially each school must produce an ESPN quality broadcast with multiple cameras, instant replay, ESPN score/graphics, and on-air talent. Schools that were closest to this standard already upgraded first, schools like Ohio that has one webcam on a tripod at half court with Windows '95 level graphics are the last to upgrade.

The original plan was for 3 schools to upgrade each year over 4 years, starting in 2014. So far 8 have upgraded, leaving 4 left to upgrade by the start of the '17-'18 season.

Just got my new Amazon Fire Stick and it works great. I streamed the Toledo game last night and it was clear the whole time. I know someone said they synced it with the radio broadcast on TuneIn. Can the 2 different apps be running at the same time? Or will I need to play TuneIn from my phone to a speaker?

I use Roku and Stream audio on my iPhone through TuneIn. It works great until someone calls me! Then I have to reset the audio.

I believe that there is more work that needs to be done to perfect these broadcasts as many switch back and forth from clear to fuzzy video all during the game.

Tuesday night for the men's game, I used the TuneIn App plugged into my home receiver, and essentially played with pausing/fast forwarding the game broadcast to get it synced. Once I perfected it, it worked out well. The drawback is that I can't flip channels or I lose that. Note in this example, I have TWC, so I didn't have to stream via Watch ESPN for this one.

I'm in agreement though on the ESPN3. I combine it with my "regular" cable, and can flip between any one of 25 games going on at a time on a Saturday.

Throw in the use of the Bananas Alert on Twitter (@BananasAlert) that gives me close game updates (you have to set up to get notifications for that specific handle) and I don't miss a good game finish if I'm planning to be in front of the screen watching hoops.

For example:

@BananasAlert Jan 26
No. 19 Indiana is headed to overtime at Wisconsin, all tied at 71 on ESPN! #BANANAS

@BananasAlert 11h11 hours ago
On ESPNU, No. 17 Baylor trails Oklahoma State 63-62 with 1:49 left! #BANANAS

I use AppleTV, too, and I've notice much less buffering and fuzzy picture problems than when watching on a computer, or a computer hooked to a TV.

We cut the cable cord this past fall. Use a Roku, and sign into ESPN3 using our basic Sling TV subscription. Works great...watched the women last night and Toledo Tuesday. Also enjoy being able to check in on the other MAC games that are available.

Is it possible to record things from a Fire Stick/Roku/AppleTV? That's really the only thing holding me back from cutting my DirecTV at this point.

I think it would actually be a lot cheaper to put a Fire Stick in every TV in the house and have Sling TV and all the apps than pay for 900 channels when I only watched about 20 of them.

Some of the networks have Apps on Roku that allow you to watch the most recent episode within a week of it airing. Tivo has a product too, but its $14/mo.

After reading on here that you could use Xbox, I fumbled my way through the kids Xbox and added the ESPN and Netflix apps. ESPN doesn't work so great for me. It will stop, back up and then try to catch up by going in fast forwerd motion. It's less agaonizing just to watch on my laptop. Although we do have middle-of-the-road internet speed so that probably makes a difference. I did notice you can fast forward and rewind using Xbox and I don't think I can do that on the laptop.
