We beat the Herd 85-70 at the beginning of the season. We moved to 4-2 and they dropped to 0-4 at the time. I recall it was close to halftime, then we pulled away in the 2nd half. We looked to be the better team. Marshall has improved their overall record to 11-11 and their CUSA record to 7-2(1 game out of first place!) My question is this...Has Marshall improved that much since we played them or is CUSA basketball that bad? I imagine it might be a little bit of both?

I think CUSA is just that bad this year. The conference RPI is around 20th right now. The top team is Middle Tennessee at 77. Eight teams are in the 200s or 300s. It's bad.

It is bad but Marshall is also better. I remember going into that game expecting a train wreck but came away actually impressed. Their talent is young so it will take time, and I don't know if D'Antoni will be able to recruit, but his system seems solid. If he gets some shooters in there they could be dangerous.

You had to think C-USA was going to take a back seat eventually. Losing Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis and others in the past decade has killed that conference.

Marshall has steadily improved. Biggest factor was boost they received when Elmore became eligible. He's improved their guard play. OTOH, it's true that the second division of CUSA is weak this season. Herd feasted on the bottom feeders for several games but then ended up beating ODU on road, Middle at home, and just barely lost a showdown vs first place UAB at home.

Since the hiring of Dan Dantoni I've been a doubter, but it really looks like things are coming together for that program.
