I tuned into the BC/WF game tonight in the 1st half ans witnessed an awful offensive display by BC. With 4 minutes left BC had scored 4 points and shot 2-23.
This team will have another loosing record this year and hasn't won both an ACC game as well as a road game. I hope JC got a 5 year deal and he is saving some of his 6 figure salary.
If he has checked out the MAC results recently he would see that his replacement is doing much better in his year 2 than he is.
The only thing JC has going for him is his compensation.

Takes time to build a program in the ACC. Comparing the MAC to the ACC is apples to oranges.

I'm happy JC signed Antonio Campbell. I bet Saul is too.

We can go back and forth on JC for as long as we want. He was a decent caretaker in 2013, brought in some nice additions in 2014, and then he left. The recruiting class gap of 3 coaches in 4 seasons crushed our recruiting. Saul has really done well to rebuild a roster where talented guys are competing for PT.

JC, if he's fortunate, will last another year or two at BC. He'll have made a load of money, and had the shot at the ACC level of coaching. When he gets ousted at BC, he'll be able to find another mid-major to go to if he wants at some point. His record at Kent is still a strong resume.

His BC team lost a few seniors and a transfer or two I believe. They have a fairly talented young team - but there's been a lot of injuries, so he's not playing with much.

Still... ugly season no matter how you shake it. That Wake game was an embarrassment. Hope next year is better for him.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

I watched the end of their game tonight and I think the announcer said they are only the 2nd team in ACC history to go 0-15.

I remember when they hired JC and we hired SP, one wag on a BC fan site said that OHIO won the trade. He opined that he wished they had hired Saul. Can't disagree with that sentiment.

I'll say this: I'm pleased with the current situation as a result of this "trade". Not only are the on court results on the up, but the Phillips family really seems like a fantastic addition to the community.

JC lost 7 seniors last year and 2 more players left early (transfer, NBA). That's 9 scholarships to fill and only 4 returning players. It should be noted that of the 4 returning players 2 were on medical red-shirts and had never played a minute of college ball before. Basically JC returned 1 starter and 1 bench player. The problem is that in spite of knowing he would have 7 open scholarships he was only able to get 3 incoming freshmen to sign LOIs by the end of last season. As of early May this is what JC's roster consisted of-

1 Sr starting PF
1 Jr back up SF
1 (RS) Soph SG,medical RS 2 seasons, never played in a college game
1 (RS) Fr C, medical RS 1 season, never played in a college game
3 incoming Fr

Over the summer JC managed to fill 5 more scholarships-

1 Sr graduate transfer from Florida. Leading scorer on the team this year, described by one BC fan on their message board as " a locker room cancer".
1 Sr former walk on, still plays walk-on minutes.
3 more freshmen.

Because JC had to find warm bodies he wasn't able to recruit to position needs and is now stuck with 4 shooting guards.

Bottom line is JC knew he would have at least 7 scholarships to fill but only managed to get 3 LOIs signed and was left scrambling. He swung for the fences on some big recruits and struck out and didn't have a plan B. So now he has a team full of young players that he signed because he had to, not necessarily because he wanted to. Did he paint himself into a corner?

I remember talking about his recruiting last year when, after the early signing period with 7 schollies to fill, they only had 1-2 filled. I didn't know it was that bad as of this past May. That's really, really bad on the recruiting front, and not a good sign for his longevity there.

Got to disagree with that one. Many followed the careers of Danny Nee, Jim Grobe and John Groce when they left and rightfully so.

I tried to watch that game, too. Looked like maybe that had 2K in the house for an ACC home game. Sad. That has to be a tough sell.

And a few on this board make it their life's work to promote Tim O'Shea for every job that comes open, LOL...

I think I've found the problem for JC. According to today's Athens News article on Treg, he's at Baldwin Wallace. No wonder he can't get ACC quality recruits.

I saw that. I almost started a JC to BW thread. How does that mistake happen? Without a lot of trust in the reporter I read the rest of the article and although thought he did a decent job with the actual basketball info, it was an odd article. Treg was told by the coaching staff that he "needed to change if he wanted to come back"? I'm not sure what this is about and the article didn't clarify, I'm thinking the reporter took it upon him/herself to paint that picture?

According to ESPN, if Boston College loses to Clemson Saturday, it would become the first major conference school to go winless in league play in both football and men's basketball in the same academic year since World War II.

Honestly, if "it's nonsense" determines whether you spend time on something, then you aren't spending time on any fan message boards I've ever seen as 95% is just that--idle talk/worthless chatter/passing time. There aren't a ton of concrete relevant topics to keep a board going, so if discussing past coaches that cumulatively are tanking isn't somewhat relevant, then coming up with enough topics to keep a board going could be tough. Certain new threads interest me, some don't. Just don't open them if you don't like the subject.
