Akron 10-3
OHIO 8-5
Kent St. 8-5
Ball St. 8-5
Toledo 7-6
CMU 7-6
NIU 7-6

We're going to be tracking this game-by-game from this point forth and if my data is correct, we have a dog fight on our hands down the home stretch. Feel free to lend insight in regards to tie-breakers, etc... as those become necessary once we see where everyone lands. Also, I'm too lazy to list who everyone on this list has left to play and whether it's home or away--if anyone's got the energy.

If beggers could be choosers, in addition to being a top 4 seed I'd like to be on the opposite side of the bracket from Akron.

Being the two seed gets them on the opposite side of the bracket. I think the three does as well.

Correct. 1 & 4 on one side of the bracket; 2 & 3 the other side.

Refresh my memory, does the top team in the East and West get the top two seeds? Or do the top two teams overall get the top two seeds?

Not 100% sure, but I thought I saw Arkley say it's overall 1 & 2 and NOT based on division?

Don't forget Buffalo too. Here's how those teams are ranked based on tie breakers-

10-3 Akron
8-5 Ohio
8-5 Kent St
8-5 Ball St

7-6 Buffalo
7-6 NIU
7-6 CMU
7-6 Toledo

On Friday Akron plays at Kent St and NIU plays at Ball St. The remaining 4 teams play the 4 bottom teams in the league.

It's overall. The East/West thing was done away with after they realized how stupid it was.

10-3 Akron = @KSU, @MIA, BG, Ohio, KSU
8-5 Ohio = MIA, @BG, UB, @Akron, @MIA
8-5 Kent St = Akron, @UB, @MIA, BG, @Akron
8-5 Ball St = NIU, @UT, EMU, CMU, @NIU

7-6 Buffalo = BG, KSU, @Ohio, MIA, @BG
7-6 NIU = @BSU, @CMU, WMU, @EMU, BSU
7-6 CMU = @WMU, NIU, @Toledo, @BSU, WMU
7-6 Toledo = @EMU, BSU, CMU, @WMU, EMU

And for those wondering, the MAC tie breakers are below:

http://www.mac-sports.com/sports/2015/3/4/MBB_0304150307....

Quote:

TIE-BREAKER PROCEDURE
Ties in winning percentage, and thus for tournament, seeding positions shall be broken as follows:

1. Between TWO teams:
A. Head-to-head competition

B. Division Record (10 games)^

C. Winning percentage* vs. ranked conference teams (top to bottom, regardless of division, vs. common opponents regardless of the number of times played)

D. Coin flip

2. For MULTIPLE (3 or more) team ties:
E. Total won-lost record/winning percentage* of games played among the tied teams

F. Two (2)-team tie-breaker procedure goes into effect (refer to A)
[NOTE: Once a three-team tie has been reduced to two teams, the two-team tiebreaker will go into effect.]

^ - For the purpose of determining the Division champion. This tiebreaker is ONLY used for seeding purposes if the two teams in question are tied for the Division lead. (Teams will still be considered co-divisional champions)

* - Winning percentage is used instead of record because of situations where teams do not play each other the same number of times. Therefore, a team that is 1-0 (1.000) would win the tiebreaker over a team that is 1-1 (.500).

The Cats need to finish strong. The schedule should help land a top 4 seed.

I think the MAC used to break the ties within a division first, then across divisions. That doesn't seem to be the case now. Sweeping BSU might be huge. In the current three-way, we're 3-1, Kent is 2-1, BSU is 0-3. The West team that would hurt us most in a tiebreaker is CMU, but that would depend on who else is involved. They split with Akron, beat Kent and lost to Buffalo.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

Thanks for the share on the tie break info Eagle. Seems to me a likely worst case scenario is going 3-2 over the last 5 games. That's good for 11-7, and with the tie breaker over Ball State, hopefully enough for the 3rd seed at worst. 4 wins in the last 5 should nail down that top 3 seed easily.

Getting the 2 or 3 seed is probably about the same this year. Avoiding the 4th seed is nice because it avoids Zippy until the finals.

Lots of presumption there, but I feel really good about this team as the weeks roll by. Defense has improved, roles have sorted themselves out. Fun are weeks ahead!

We hold tiebreakers galore among this group, with the exception of CMU. I worry about Ball St and CMU as threats to the 2/3 seeds.

Many of those teams in the 7-6 and 8-5 pack play each other over the next couple weeks. It's a strong possibility that they'll eliminate themselves from top 4 contention. That's the reason my feeling is that 3 of the next 5 gets it done for seeding.

BG is in the spoiler seat - that feels like a key game for us.

10-3 Akron (31-34, 3)
8-5 Ohio (27-38, 2)
8-5 Kent St (34-31, 2)
8-5 Ball St (33-32, 3)
7-6 Buffalo (27-38, 3)
7-6 NIU (32-33, 2)
7-6 CMU (30-35, 2)
7-6 Toledo (29-36, 2)

In parentheses is the record of the teams left on each team's schedule and the number of home games. On paper Buffalo has the easiest road. They are tied with us for the easiest schedule but have one more home game. If we can beat them here however they would probably be eliminated from the #2 seed for all intents and purposes. Kent gets Akron twice which gives them the toughest road. You have to like our chances on paper but unfortunately that's not how this works.

Thanks for the compilation Van. Since this thread started, I've been thinking that there's little difference between the 2 and 3 seed, but I hadn't really looked at the potential of who those two teams would play in Cleveland.

The two seed plays the 7/10 winner, and the three seed the 6/11 winner. Assuming the higher seed wins those games, I'm not sure there's a huge difference this year between 6 and 7. Right now it's a fight between:

7-6 Buffalo
7-6 NIU
7-6 CMU
7-6 Toledo

Of those, I think UB is the best, followed by CMU.

What are you hoping for tomorrow night when Kent plays Akron? A Kent win, so that leaves open the door of us having a chance to vie for #1 when we play @Akron, or an Akron win thus allowing them to capture #1 seed and pushing Kent back?

My initial thoughts is desiring an Akron win and pushing Kent back.

Here's my, "I spent 3 minutes guessing" projected finish (not even sure I had the same team winning/losing on some of the matchups, but whose counting). Hard part is picking CMU games as I don't recall anything much about them. But here's my guess:

Akron 14-4
Ohio 11-7
BSU 11-7
Kent 10-8
Buffalo 10-8
Toledo 10-8
CMU 9-9
NIU 9-9

I would love that draw! First I like how Ohio matches up with BSU. I would also much rather have NIU in the quarters than CMU. Let BSU take care of the Chips in the quarters. I think what I like most is Akron having to play Kent/Buffalo in the semis. Any word on the Bulls wayward children returning to the fold before tournament time? I'm sure the Folks that run the tournament at the Q would be LOVING these projections!

Akron didn't shoot well, which is why they lost. Johnson had a pretty tremendous scoring performance, but fouls hurt him. Kent was methodical and surprised me quite a bit. I was expecting them to fade in the 2nd half.

Other games today (2/20)

Bowling Green (+7) @ Buffalo
Toledo (-2.5) @ EMU
CMU (-1) @ WMU

BG, EMU, and WMU wins would be great for Ohio. This would give a 2 game lead for the top 4 over the pack, assuming Ohio can pull off the win over Fiami. If I had to pick only one to go the way I'd want, I'd say WMU since CMU has the tie breaker on us. Let's go Broncos
