I'm very confused...Buffalo has ball with 29 seconds left in game and Akron could have gotten the ball back with no worse than 15 seconds and you tell your team to foul because you have one to give? Shot clock resets for Buffalo to hold for one???

What in the world? Dambrot now 3-5 in MAC Tourney Championship games...right?

Glad Buffalo won...gives MAC best chance of those two teams to win NCAA Tourney game. Beefs will be favored to win MAC next year...so much athleticism and Bearden is a beast.

I could not figure that out either. It resets the clock. WTH was he thinking?

I was really hoping Akron got the bid cause I think Akron would have had a better chance at a win. IMO, Buff is gonna get rolled in the NCAA's.

I don't think he wanted to give a foul. It merely happened.

My jaw dropped. WTF? That was sheer idiocy. I can't imagine what he was thinking.

Just watched it again...he clearly fouled on purpose.

my exact yell to my wife....why did they not gamble on the inbounds and take the foul with a chance to steal? Ridiculous. Pressure the inbounds and give the foul.

What a horrible decision! Akron would have had the last shot but instead allowed Buffalo to have it and man did they make them pay!

I agree, it looked intentional. Curious to hear if it was.

So did I. The only thing I can think of is he thought there was a lot more time on the shot clock.

And Big Dog missed how many 2 footers? Wow....respect what Zippy has done over the last decade, but Akron tightens up in many big game situations.

Or he didn't think the shot clock resets? Seriously....that was idiotic.

Wow what a finish! Dumb foul you gave up a chance to get the ball back with any time. Buffalo is going to be a tough, tough out in the MAC for the next few years. They are young and very athletic. Their Frosh played some Hugh roles tonite.

I get the first foul. It's a legit strategy. But once committed to that, why didn't they foul again?

Respectfully disagree. It's not like Akron would have gotten the ball back with only 3 seconds left if it didn't foul. 14-15 seconds would have been on the clock even if Beefs scored. Head scratching moment for Dambrot.

Could be wrong, but it looked to me like the coach didn't call that foul but that it was freelanced by the perp.

I'll clarify... I don't think the first foul was a good decision, but I'll respect a coach's discretion to use the tactic.

My confusion is not fouling again.

It's legitimately stupid strategy. If the shot clock is off it's legitimate strategy. With 11 seconds left on the shot clock and 26 seconds left on the game clock it's idiocy.

Zippy Nation in meltdown mode on its message board. I would be too.

Junior Zippy

What a huge mistake to foul there with 10 seconds difference on the shot clock. If you are going to waste a foul you don't do it like that and it just cost Akron a shot to get the last shot. Horrible end to a great season.

I get that...if you are going to foul once...you better do it again in the last 6-7 seconds. Just brutal...I say it's on Dambrot. Somebody did not get the message on court. However, I'd still rather have ball in my hands with 13 second left with a chance to tie...win..or go to OT. They were left with nothing.

Not only that but Buffalo now had a chance to set up their last shot leisurely. They would have been in a little bit of a rush.

They are in full meltdown over there. I find it somewhat ironic that they cry "Buffalo will get smoked" when their sacred Zippies have never done anything but get beat in the NCAA tourney. And under "smoked" in Webster's online there's a link to the Akron-VCU box score.

No idea what happened - did not watch the game - sound like an ex-point guard may have been selling his wares to players and/or coaches.

Maybe they were all confused as to what a "foul to give" is, as 99.9% of conference games would have had both teams in the double bonus since the under 8:00 timeout?

One of many bewildering moments in the History of Akron Zip basketball. Dambrot can sure coach 99% of the time, and they certainly have had talent through the years to make a Cinderella NCAA run. Unfortunately for them, something inexplicable usually happens in the MAC tournament that prevents Cinderella from ever trying on her slippers.
