Question for the group on here:

Suppose, in the minuscule chance that Ohio doesn't play Saturday night, you wanted to cancel your Saturday night hotel reservation on Friday night, outside the normal 24 hour window after the game. Has anyone had any experience with that situation?

I'd expect to be charged if you're cancelling after the cancellation window. Why not book at a hotel that you can cancel same day or hold off on the Saturday night reservation and then book the extended night after Friday's game? I guess if you have a specific hotel you want to stay in, I can understand, but I can't imagine all the hotels downtown booked up on Saturday night.

The goal was to not have to relocate if the hotel I chose was booked up for Saturday. I've not made a phone call yet, but I thought I'd solicit the opinions of others on here for what they've done or what had worked for you.

My expectation is that most hotels will have availability Saturday night outside of maybe a couple. I wouldn't lock anything in unless I was comfortable I'd use it or could cancel without penalty.

I'm more of a fan of Hotwire/Priceline anyway, but they are non-refundable once booked. Although Hotwire/Priceline won't tell you the hotel in advance, you can have a pretty good idea with just a little research. There's only about 4 or 5 hotels downtown with 4*+ ratings and maybe 4 more with 3-1/2* ratings downtown. Using sites like betterbidding.com or biddingfortravel.com, you can narrow down the hotels. Through research, you can make educated guesses, such as Renassiance is sold-out Saturday night, the Ritz Carlton doesn't do those discount sites like Priceline/Hotwire, nor has the Metropolitan at the 9. So based on what's left:

Saturday night...Hotwire has the following downtown hotels listed:

3-1/2* for $61 - Probably the Doubletree Lakeside
4* for $90 - Probably the Hyatt at the Arcade (booked it back before christmas)
4* for $91 - Almost positive that's the Westin (just booked it two weeks ago for same price)

https://www.hotwire.com/hotels/#!/hotel/results/Cleveland...

Both Doubletree and Westin are probably 1/2 mile walks from arena, but I'd take a stab at the Hyatt for $90. Again, nothing absolutley guaranteed other than you get a 4* hotel room in downtown cleveland.

Going to be a rainy, dreary day in Cleveland today so allow for some extra time on your way into town. Forecast for Friday and Saturday looks great though.

Public Square renovation is still a mess so my recommendation is to find the first available garage close to the Q, park your car there and head to East 4th or your other favorite watering hole. My personal favorite is the Butcher on Brewer and East 4th.

Safe travels everybody. Go Cats!!

I went to the Cavs game last Saturday and parked at 200 Public Square. It was $15 then, $5 cheaper than the garage attached to the Q.

I just parked at East Garage an hour ago (attached garage) and paid $10

I believe the attached East garage is $10 until the finals when it is $15.

The 3 1/2 star is in fact the Doubletree Lakeside and it's down to $59 at the moment. You also can save $15 if you spend $100 plus (like Friday and Saturday night would be) if you go to Groupon's Hotwire page. So it's two nights downtown at a pretty nice place for less than $103 (taxes and fees take it up to $133.52). I believe parking there is going to cost $18/night, which isn't too bad for downtown.

I can't make it tonight but will be there tomorrow should we make it. If we're beating Buffalo and their fans start to leave, be sure to (politely) ask them for their tickets to tomorrow and give them to me!
