Glad we're hosting. I'm not ready for Ohio hoops to be over.

According to their bracket, if we win we'd get the winner of UNC-Greensboro vs. Houston Baptist on March 21.

I'm not assuming anything, but I found it interesting that the championship is a best of 3 series.

And they re-seed the brackets after the first 2 rounds for the semis. They've had this setup for awhile but I think it's weird (though probably mostly in an attempt to maximize games while minimizing travel $).

A potential matchup with Western Carolina? That would be hilarious. I'm glad the season isn't over! I hate that the game is on Wednesday because I can't come!!!

you know what ? .. i wonder if that has anything to do w/ the "other tournament" going on over the next month ?

i've heard some discussion of the "other tournament" and i think they play thier games on thursdays and fridays and then the winners will play one another on SATURDAY and SUNDAY ..

so i wonder if the CBI is possibly trying to avoid competing w/ the "other tournament" ?

BANG !! .. Oh BABY what a BIG TIME theory !!

I'm sure that is why, but as we saw a couple years ago, not all of the tournaments avoid having games on the same day as the NCAA. Ohio hosted a Saturday game. And having all the games during the week certainly will lower attendance.

Wow those are some really bad teams at the bottom. Did they just keep going down the list until they got to them or what? Seems like there will be about 100 better programs than some of those teams that won't be in a postseason tourney.

1st time we've had this event when it's not spring break, I'd expect a crowd of 8-10k with the students out in full force. I look for us to host a round two game as well.

8-10k. Doubt it.

Sometimes you just have to do what needs to be done and whip one on your Albany.

You just do.

We got a good shot in this tournament. VCU won this tournament the year before they reached the final four. The format allows for a school like Ohio to play 5-6 extra games in this tournament. The more game action the better especially with a young bench .

Adding to the RPI ranking - I like to look at the composite average (RealClearPolitics style) of RPI, KenPom and Sagarin (using same rankings as Tedd's tracking thread).

Here are the 16 CBI teams ranked by their average, numbers are KenPom/Sagarin/RPI - Average. I've also included all the MAC teams for perspective :

Akron - 85/93/34 - 70.7
1) Siena - 112/123/104 - 113.0
2) Ohio - 129/130/81 - 113.3
3) Albany - 119/124/107 - 116.7
Buffalo - 131/133/91 - 118.3
4) Pepperdine - 135/121/129 - 128.3
5) Nevada - 146/140/118 - 134.7
6) Morehead St - 140/142/127 - 136.3
E Michigan - 152/148/113 - 137.7
7) Vermont - 148/150/126 - 141.3
Toledo - 128/132/182 - 147.3
8) Omaha - 145/155/143 - 147.7
9) Montana - 147/153/144 - 148.0
N Illinois - 164/163/136 - 154.3
C Michigan - 154/159/155 - 156.0
Kent St - 178/171/124 - 157.7
10) Duquesne - 166/158/162 - 162.0
Ball St - 156/162/179 - 165.7
11) W Carolina - 186/205/166 - 185.7
W Michigan - 179/184/203 - 188.7
12) Idaho - 207/208/190 - 201.7
13) E Washington - 191/210/232 - 211.0
Bowling Green - 216/231/201 - 216.0
Miami - 236/229/195 - 220.0
14) UNC Greensboro - 200/234/237 - 223.7
15) Houston Baptist - 276/281/225 - 260.7
16) Seattle - 296/284/287 - 289.0

----

Based on that, like I said previously Albany is going to be a tough TOUGH out. However, if we manage to get by them, that second round game with the Greensboro/Houston Baptist winner is EXTREMELY winnable.

Could be either 1 and done or into the semis.

How the heck those bottom 3 teams got into this tourney is beyond me. Eesh.

Another matchup I would enjoy is seeing Ohio play Morehead State. That's another regional type school that we should play more often. Especially on a Saturday. It's a very easy drive drone Athens down to Morehead and the Eagles are usually a decent opponent.

What a crap tournament field! Why are several teams that are several games under .500 playing in this??? What a joke.

Ohio definitely will be favored in the quarterfinals if it gets there, but Ohio also has come very close to losing to teams on a similar level as those. Nothing is a given.

I'm all for a three game playoff with Vermont with two in Burlington. Pregames at Magic Hat, first round is on me.

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

Their message board is saying two of their top players are injured and likely out for this game.

Not kidding! With all the teams with winning records still out there, and we're talking about some decent teams, how in the world do you end up with not one, but several teams with losing records playing in such a tournament?? With this kind of criteria, Miami should feel left out. SMH
