Northern Illinois will be playing in the Vegas 16..er...8 tournament. But it doesn't start until next Monday (Mar 28). They had to cut field from1 16 to 8 due to lack of interest.

Here's a break down of the MAC teams in post season tournaments this year-

MENS:
NCAA- Buffalo, lost 1st round.
NIT- Akron, lost 1st round.
CIT- CMU, lost 1st round.
CIT- Ball St, won 1st round, won 2nd round, play @Columbia in Quarterfinals 3/23.
CBI- Ohio, won 1st round, won 2nd round, play Semifinals 3/23.
V8- NIU, play 1st round 3/28.

(I don't like the 2 week gap for the Vegas 8 tournament)

Womens:
NCAA- Buffalo, lost 1st round.
NIT- Akron, lost 1st round.
NIT- CMU, lost 1st round.
NIT- EMU, lost 1st round.
NIT- Ball St, won 1st round, lost 2nd round.
NIT- Ohio, won 1st round, won 2nd round, play @Temple 3rd round 3/24.

I wondered about that too. The only explanation is hoping to give fans time to plan travel out to the games? It's obviously a made for TV event though. I can understand why schools turned it down. Seems like a lot of hassle for a one and done tourney (two week wait and travel planning).
