Okay, something interesting just happened in the Tortoise and the Hare game. The Jackrabbits went up for a shot but missed and Maryland got the rebound with just over 2 minutes to go. The shot clock didn't reset right away but the refs didn't notice. Maryland gets it into the front court and lets the clock run. With 15 seconds left on the shot clock just as Melo Trimble appears to start running their offense the refs blow the whistle after someone on the sideline apparently alerted them to the clock error. They look at the replay and change the shot clock to 11 seconds instead of 15. I think what they should have done is add the time back to the game clock instead of subtracting it from the shot clock. My reasoning is that Maryland was playing the possession as if they had 15 seconds left. They wasted 10 seconds with this thought in mind. By adding it the game clock there is no benefit or harm to either team. By taking it from the shot clock Maryland has 4 seconds fewer than they thought they were working with.

Not a huge thing but it might have mattered. What does everybody else think?

The problem was with the shot clock, not the game clock, so they were right in changing the shot clock. The fault was in not catching it sooner, and probably lies with the clock operator at the table. Besides, it was MD, which deserves all the bad breaks they can get.

I understand that the shot clock was the one at fault. I just think that the best remedy is to keep the shot clock as it was when they blew the whistle because Maryland was playing the possession according to how much time was left on the shot clock not the game clock. By doing this then Maryland gets to play it like they intended and the game clock ends up in the exact same spot as it would have. By just changing the shot clock Maryland has four fewer seconds to run their possession that they thought they had.
