This is my first look at this year's team. The difference in the defense is remarkable. I don't recall much chatter about defense during the Groce era but I always felt his teams played great D. Today these guys remind me of those teams.

+1

The defense is markedly improved from last year. Hope it carries into games against tougher competition.

Don't discount this win. SHSU is a solid program that would be a mid level MAC team. This was a good early season win.

Defense is what John's teams were all about. In 2011-2012, we were in the top five in the country in 3pt pctg defense, and we led the MAC in steals.

But I agree - the defense in this one tonight was noticeably improved, especially closing on shots.

I totally agree. As impressive as the offensive fire power was last night it was the defense that has me being even more hopeful of this being a special season for Bobcat hoops.

I remember going to my first MAC games at the Convo 25+ years ago and being very surprised at how good many of the players were. I fell in love with MACtion immediately. Almost as quickly I learned you can't let guys in our league get good looks, they'll knock them down all night.

Love the defensive intensity!

After watching 2 games live and one on TV, I've been thinking that this team will go as far as its defense will take it.
