They are going to be a good test. Both of these first 2 opponents have a great shot at being in the dance. I'd rather not be one of the good and on their resumes

I love that we're playing Southern and Sam Houston State on Saturday/Monday -- it simulates tournament type play against good mid-major opponents.

If I read the SHSU preview correctly, they return all five starters and a redshirt senior guard who was their best player coming into last year and had a season-ending injury.

There will be lots of good film from these two games to help the staff with rotation and playing combinations, plus a good barometer for where our freshmen are coming into actual competition; and, how much our returnees have progressed on the things they are working on.

We appear to have the size on them. I am sure Tony wants to come out and take over the game.

Based on what I've read, I would agree. They'll be a solid test.

Sam Houston is the preseason pick to win the Southland Conference ( over perrenial powerhouse Steven Austin). Additionally, they return their top 7 scorers and 86% of their offense. This will be an experienced and confident group that we face tonight. We will need our "A" game to win.

And as noted by Joe above, in addition to the top 7 scorers and 86% of their offense, they return a guy, Paul Baxter, who missed last season, but was a preseason 1st team conference selection going into last year. I'm glad we've gotten a couple of games under our belt before we have to face them.

Expecting a solid game tonight. They have a lot of experienced guys - Majauskas and Henderson appear to both be good seniors. I do think we matchup well, so I'm predicting an 80-64 OHIO victory.

"Don't fall in love with the 3." Could be a phrase uttered a lot by Saul this year, but damn, every guy in the rotation can step outside and make it. Buckle up....fun year in store.

I had to listen to the game on FM 89.1 WOUC tonight. Is it common for the stations in the WOUB family to cut away to other programming immediately after the game is over? There was no postgame with Rob and Russ at all!

Well I saw everyone saying this is a good Sam Houston St team but they looked a bit shakey/sloppy to me. Maybe that is just a credit to our defense.

Kenny Kaminsk is now 9 for 13 from behind the arc...hot damn. If he becomes the sharp shooter we anticipated/hopes for, wow.

Simmons/Campbell/Dartis are just so awesome. Block, Carter, Taylor...all mix in nicely. Culver struggled tonight but looked good Saturday. This team should be very good.

ps - I think I spotted OCF with a brand spanking new crisp clean Cubs hat on on Saturday.

Don't expect us to shoot like this most nights but it does underscore how tough we are going to be to defend. With 5 guys on the floor that can drain the three you have to choose whether you are going to help on Jaaron or give up an open look.

Can't recall the last college basketball game I watched that didn't have a dunk but I don't remember any tonight.

I had that happen a few times with 1230 AM in Cbus a few years ago.

I thought they were just out-manned on defense. Tough to not get rattled when the Ohio starts out as hot as they did on offense and played defense just as well. Their offense clicked occasionally and one could see what we heard. They came out of halftime with a game plan to be aggressive and Ohio took the wind out of their sail with equally aggressive play at both ends.

Fun to watch, IMHO.

Buy shs stock. They will be a good team and will use this one to learn from.

In the top 100 3 Pt per cent wise only 3 have shot 10 shots kk is the only one over 10 and sits alone with 13. Right now 9 for 13 is the best in the country with more than 10 attempts. Well see how long that lasts. I am rooting for him and Dartis to keep scorching the nets.

That was memorable in how fast they got to 28 and how many were involved. It's one thing to see one player on a roll. It is more impressive to see rain coming from many clouds

Last night looked like Saul took a page out of the Warriors' playbook. If there are at least four guys on the floor at any time that can step out and shoot a three, that opens up so many options. Or like Van said, the starting lineup has five guys.

What I liked was the dedication to the little things on the defensive end that I've not seen in Saul's tenure so far. Lots of high hands approaching the shooters, hands in passing lanes to make a guy think twice about giving it up and most of all hedging screens. Keep that up!

Yes, unfortunately that seems to be the SOP for them. I have the same issue in football when I listen to the WOUB station out of Ironton. :-(

WOUB doesn't have pregame or postgame shows this year. Russ mentioned something about the contract with them specifying only doing the games.

All it takes is one or two guys who love to play defense to get the whole team following suit. Joe Gibbs always said that his best coaches were his players.
