Here's an article about the Dayton Flyers, written by an Ohio journalism grad, that talks about why schools schedule less than D1 opponents. I would assume that what Dayton does is probably similar to the approach that Ohio takes when looking at building a non-conference schedule. In my opinion, Dave's conversation with the UD folks gives good insight into scheduling.

Good article and reflects our conundrum with setting a schedule. No one wants to come here as we are just enough of a giant killer to knock them off. Recent tournament success and good recruiting have created a problem we have to deal with percepttually when we are trying to get these patients in here.

FUnny that the writer took the liberty to infer that fans may not want to pay full price. My UD fans are much more astute than thatbit of cheap journalism. Will be surprised if he does not get a comment from a really astute fan base over there.

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I can see their point of view if they have that opinion on paying full price. On the other hand, they get 10-12 top shelf home games every year where they get more than their money's worth in ticket dollars.

In this specific case, knowing Dave personally, I would venture a guess that someone has told him that more than he is speculating.

But the points on how games are scheduled by even UD is what caught my eye the most. The use of the past 5 years of RPI/SOS data for each opponent the schedule goes to show us how complex it can be to schedule higher end opponents.

This is why I would fully welcome something like a MAC/MAAC or MAC/OVC or MAC/Horizon challenge. Or at least some type of gentlemen's agreement that says we'll help each other fill our schedules. If the big boys don't wanna play in our house, someone similar to us is obviously having the same problem.

Great idea. Have you applied for Schaus's or Guy's job?

I like the concept...but we should shoot higher than the OVC or MAAC. Horizon isn't terrible idea....

But I would welcome MVC or MWC or A-10 or even CUSA.

the OVC, MAAC and Horizon are worse league's than the MAC. If the goal is to elevate the league...then elevate the competition.

Nothing from nothing but shout out to St. Joe's College for going to my daughter's school yesterday and doing drills in front of the 4th and 5th grade classes. She was pumped that she got picked to participate in some of the drills. And that she got to miss first period (Social Studies) to play basketball. Although, she would have preferred to miss Science.

Other than Wichita State, I think the MAC compares rather favorably to the MVC, though I doubt that MVC fans would echo that idea.

I couldn't see the A-10 every agreeing to a series, and the MWC, because of travel logistics, might not be the best fit either. We're already scheduling two C-USA teams this year and next: WKU & Marshall. I'd like to see both of those continue. Both will be good games for Ohio in my opinion.

I think a series with the MAAC or Horizon would be a good match, and most years, I think would be a comparable basketball conference. I'm also fine with the OVC, but I agree that it's not currently the same as the MAC. 3-4 years ago, that might have been a different story.

More than anything, as a fan, I'd really like to see the MAC as a whole, as much as possible, get away from scheduling A-Sun, Sun Belt, SWAC, MEAC schools. They don't draw fan interest, and the conferences generally aren't high RPI conferences. I know they can't be avoided completely, but I'd rather see regional matchups such as WKU, IPFW, or Morehead State with similar RPIs than Ark State.
