I ran the numbers because I just got frustrated watching AC camp in the corner all night vs. WMU.

I know he made 6-9....that's great and everything.

But it just made me think....have we seen the last of AC being the low-post monster he showed in past years? And if so, who's to "blame"?

Did Saul decide we're no longer going to try to work the ball to him in the post? Or did AC just decide he's going to focus on shooting more 3ptrs?

But then I ran the numbers....and while his 3pt attempts are up over 50% from a year ago thru the first 11 games....his other post numbers are actually the same or better.

Bizarre!

2015-16
62-104 FG (59.6%)
10-26 3PT (38.5%)
52-78 2PT (66.6%)
113 Rebs (10.3 rpg)

2016-17
79-150 FG (52.7%)
21-55 3PT (38.2%)
58-95 2PT (61%)
113 Rebs (10.3 rpg)

While the numbers are similar or even better in some cases in 2016-17....I just don't get the sense we're watching a MAC POY playing? Is it just me? I haven't been blown away with his play in any game so far this season. Maybe Marshall? But that defensive effort was so bad it was overshadowed...

I don't know what to make of it. But when his first 2pt FG attempt came with 7:54 left in the SECOND HALF last night...I was really perplexed.

His last three games:

9-18 3PT
8-15 2PT

I just don't see this trend as a viable option that will lead to winning the MAC. We have four guys already on the floor (Simmons, KK, Dartis, Block) that are 3pt-first shooters (maybe not Block and Simmons 100% of time).....isn't Campbell served better as a low-post-first threat, that has the ability to stretch floor time to time?

He's already nearly halfway to his 2015-16 total in 3pt FGA (55 in 11 games) than he shot all of last year in 35 games (117)

Just an odd transition for a guy who was player of the year in the league and was hard to handle on the block probably more than any other MAC player?

Maybe it's just me....

I thought this thread was going to be about Antonio Bisutti! (He's shooting 100% from the field, including 100% from three.)

As far as AC, I agree that we need more post play from him but in terms of POY I have to say he makes averaging 18 and 10 look pretty effortless. I'm looking forward to a big game from him and for the record I'm talking about a better line than 22 and 12 in 27 minutes which is nothing to sneeze at. I think our expectations are pretty high for AC.

I think we also have to acknowledge that Tony's looking at the next level where he will not dominate the post.

And last night my son and I were remarking that his baby hook, which I would have said was his bread-and-butter, has been off (he finally hit one late).

He sure was a beast down low against a very big Georgia Tech team. His points per game are up from last year's MAC POY campaign. His rebounds per game are up from last year's MAC POY campaign. His 2pt FG attempts are down a whopping 0.2 per game from last year's MAC POY campaign from 8.8 to 8.6. As for using his last three games, it's kind of hard to draw any conclusions when two of the three games were blow out wins. In our three losses he took 15, 13, and 9 two point attempts or an average of 12.3 a game. In the 8 wins he played in he took 58 2pt attempts or an average of 7.3 a game. Conversely, he took an average of 3.3 3pt attempts in our losses and 5.6 in our wins. And if he is hitting 3s at a 50% clip should we really be complaining about it?

Man... Now I gotta figure out how to ignore the facts and keep thinking he should be in the paint more... Ignorance is bliss....

I hope in tight games late he roams down low and uses that baby hook. It is awesome.

The numbers don't lie with respect to the value of the three, and AC is definitely a good enough shooter to have a green light from the arc.

I start wincing at his three-point shots when he takes them early in the playclock, when he's not really open, and when he falls in love with the three and abandons the paint. When our biggest guy out there just hangs out at the arc, it makes the offense much more one-dimensional and eliminates a key offensive rebounder.

The goal should be to find the most efficient shot possible. Right now Tony is averaging 1.21 points per 2 pt shot and he is averaging 1.15 points per 3 pt shot.

Remarkably close numbers which would lead me to believe that he has found the perfect balance of 2's and 3's.

I don't expect him to shoot 9 3's a game, but if he's feeling it and the other team is giving it to him, he shouldn't pass them up.

I think we are taking him for granted, his counting stats are slightly down this year due to his foul trouble, but his %'s are almost identical to what he was doing last year.

He can do it both ways, depends on the matchups and what is working. Last night it was the 3. He is putting together one hell of a season again and I'm not sure we all fully appreciate what we're witnessing with him.
