Limited offense may be our destiny.

Jaaron. He’s the man. Without Tony, he’s been trying to pick up his offensive game big time because only Carter is stepping up. Last night, Jaaron worked hard to get off 18 shots and 10 assists, accounting for 27 points.

And Carter is coming up big time. He’s becoming our work horse but teams will start collapsing on him because we got nothing else inside.

Credit Block and Laster for their full time effort but limited offensive games.

We need scorers and that may not be happening this year. With only an 8 man rotation, and Taylor and KK’s minutes limited for good reason, we have a big problem. Culver a glue on D but got off zero shots simply because he doesn’t have one. Dartis obviously our most consistent shooter but he needs more than 7 shots per game. Got to figure a way to change that.

And a nod to the Brazilian students, who show up once a year, and as always,, totally embarrass the No Zone.

The offense was a problem even before Tony went out. The chemistry on that side of the floor just hasn't been there like it was last year. It's almost as if they put such an emphasis on the defensive side, which has been outstanding BTW, that the offense took a hit because of it.

Defenses are figuring out how to guard Ohio. Force them to work the ball inside and don't let their shooters get open looks. Carter's emergence in the paint is only going to help this team get better offensively. The more the defense collapses to shut him down, he'll have to find ways to kick out to shooters.

And I know some people don't like Doug Taylor's game, but here's a secret: he's got the best FG % of anyone on the team. Get him around the basket and it's going in the hoop more than it's not. If he and Jason can make up for what Tony brought to the table combined and maybe a little bit more they should be fine.

Mike Laster is getting better offensively. Gavin will do his 5/5/5 thing and I'll take that every night. If Jordy and KK can adjust to what's going on with Jason down in the paint, they should be able to put something together by late February/March. And Jaaron is still one of the best, if not the best passer in the league, and also one of the best at getting to the rim.

Where the team is going to struggle is what you saw last night. Guys like Steve Taylor and Isaiah Johnson are going to be force fed down Ohio's throat until proved they can be stopped. I'm more worried about them kicking out to open shooters though.

And backside rebounding has to get better too. It's gonna have to be a team effort on rebounding from now on. We can't just hope Jason and Doug are gonna be able to gobble everything up. EVERYONE needs to check their man and get the ball. Toledo had too many second chance opportunities last night.

Seasons are living, breathing beings that change and mutate throughout the schedule. We've got plenty of usable pieces that just need to find a way to work together. Our entire rotation has shown flashes. My personal feeling is that we need to learn how to kick it out better. IMO Jaaron tried to be the man last night but I think he went about it the wrong way. Would love to see him drive to dish more often as opposed to drive to score. Toledo is a bad off the ball defensive team and we hurt them early because of it but stopped late.

Agreed. There were a few head-scratching moments from Jaaron last night where I was confused what I was looking at. Especially when you've got a guy like Jordy out there with the quick and itchy trigger.

Without TC, this team is probably a 50-50 team that loses early in the tourney...now go prove me wrong please! In addition, I think it gives us a glimpse of next year...UGH!

Even the table by taking it to them and drawing contact - get them on the bench (did that H1 w/Taylor - Not in H2)

Sometimes I really wish we'd see more of this - going at a big that's killing us on the offensive end to try to get them in foul trouble. When Taylor got his 3rd, seems to me they should have been going right at him until he got his 4th.

Even if you don't force that 4th foul, it does force the opposing coach to make a decision whether to leave him in there or not. If Ohio keeps attacking the rim and trying to draw that foul time and again then the coach is gonna see that trend and know what's going on.

Or, it forces the player to give up the layup to avoid that 4th foul. Either way, there are times when it's puzzling why it doesn't happen more often.

Surprisingly, it seems defense has been a bigger problem than offense since Campbell went out. It was great against Eastern Michigan, but since then, Ohio has given up 83, 69 and 79 points. Those are three of the six worst defensive scoring efforts Ohio has given up this year.
