I personally believe in creating a balance between making sure your better shooters/scorers get their shots, while still getting everyone else some touches. When I covered the NY Knicks' beat for Newsday (Long Island) in the 1980s, coach Hubie Brown was a huge proponent that your high percentage shooters should take a higher percentage of the shots. Hence, the offense revolved around forward Bernard King as the primary scorer, then center Bill Cartwright, as they both shot more than 50 percent from the floor. Hubie didn't see any logic in increasing the number of shots for guys shooting under 45 percent at the expense of those two guys. Looking at our personnel without Tony Campbell, sharing the ball unselfishly does get everyone shots in their sweet zones and that's a good thing. But I do believe Jordan Dartis MUST get more shots within that concept. Dartis is shooting 46 percent, period. Share if you will, but this guy has to shoot the ball! Unfortunately we just saw how these concepts played out at Western Michigan. The Broncos shared the ball early on and were on the verge of getting blown out of their own gym. They would have lost by 20 if Thomas Wilder had remained passive within the offense, if they didn't make sure he got his touches, if he hadn't gotten his shots. I'm not saying Jordan needs to become Walter Luckett or Dave Jamerson. But this guy can stroke it, he's improved greatly at making plays at the basket and he's their best free throw shooter. If we're going to do anything this season I do believe he's got to become more involved in the offense. What do you think? Other teams know what he can do so they had a guy within a step of him most of the night. He's also got to do a better job moving without the ball to give the passers a good lane to get it to him. Nick was tremendous in sliding so that he could either get a good pass or make it tough for his defender to get to him in time. But there were also a number of times when we could have kicked it to him and missed the opportunity. One thing we haven't done a great job even when we had Tony was kick it out from the post when they collapse. Something to work on. Every player on the floor has certain shots that would be considered "good" shots within the offense. But it makes sense to move the ball to open shots for the better shooters. If you have one or two players continually doing one on one stuff, that will catch up with you eventually when you go up against better defensive teams. Agreed and we consistently made the extra pass early last night. Not so much in the second half. I'm for getting the ball to the guy with the hot hand. That may be Dartis or Kaminsky to begin the game, but if someone else starts lighting it up, get the ball to him. We will get by. Bobcats are in Zips heads now with todays win. Anything is possible if we dont get cold spell shooting.
