Sagarin ratings put UConn as a 35-point favorite on a neutral court.

Grew up in Connecticut, love the Huskies, my 2nd favorite team next to OHIO. But I'll take UConn in this one.

Would our women's team lose by more than our men's team could beat them by?

No. The men's team would absolutely destroy them. The women's team could probably keep it within 30-35.

Correct. UConn's women's team would probably still lose to a D3 Men's team. I'm sorry, I love the ladies, but there is just a major difference in athletic ability and physicality between men and women in basketball. And that comes from a guy who like watching women play because they're so much more fundamentally sound and seemingly more willing to learn to get better.

When I was at OHIO (1996-2000) I played a ton of open gym hoops at the Ping Center. Over the years, me and the group I played with got really good together and won most of our games against that competition.

Katie Smith's brother was at OHIO during those years and she came to visit one time. At that time Katie was literally one of the top 10-20 women's players in the world. She came up to open gym and we played against her and she could not do anything against us hung over bunch of bums.

Now if you did rotate late and she was open and got the shot off, it was over. But she just couldn't get good looks against us most of the time.

Really opened my eyes to the difference.

Had a similar scenario in my time at Xavier when it was schooling for my Master's there. Played in a lot of open gyms with guys like me who played in high school, some former Xavier men's players and some current women's players who played on a Top 10 team for X that year. The women couldn't do squat. It was incredible.

One of the women on that X team went on to be a lottery pick in the WNBA. She was roasted by a middle-aged former high school basketball player who was actually smaller than she was.

This actually was discussed on 850 from Cleveland. I think they basically agreed John Carroll would beat UConn handily. They then discussed whether a good high school team like St. Ed's would beat UConn. I'm not sure if they decided.

This feels so much like creating a second account to comment on your own post. The whole thread is a failed attempt at comedy.

I personally think the Uconn women would destroy any high school Men's team, and play a tight game with D3 college Men's teams. But I agree any decent D1 team would destroy them. I think the disparity is greatest in basketball than a lot of other sports just with all the natural athleticism required.

I don't think they would beat every high school men's team. In fact, I don't think they'd beat most. Even the best women still play the game on the floor. It's just a matter of physiology.

Know a young lady that played at Tennessee for Summit. They often scrimmaged against a group of guys that summit gathered. They had all played in high school But none of them had been offered any scholarships. In essence they were good high school players but not stars. The UT women's team NEVER won the scrimmage. I met Summit later and asked her about it. Said the strength, speed and athleticism were too much but made the women better.
