One thing missing from this past season was any kind of full court defense by Ohio. No full court press. No three-quarter or half court press. Nothing. There were times in close games when we even let the opposing team roll the in-bound pass and pick it up at half court. Full court defense can slow the opposition, run precious time off the clock and maybe cause turnovers. Are we that bad at it that we don't even try?

Applying full court pressure would wear the guys out more than they already are. In late game situations I think we may have been able to pull it off subbing offense/defense by taking out KK and putting in Mike or Rodney, but other than that Jaaron and Jordy were already being asked to carry a heavy, heavy load.

Tough to press full court or at all with a 7.5 man rotation.

+1

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

I'm not saying do it a lot. But there are times when it's necessary.

When you have the ability to do a full court press, but don't do it a lot,a sometimes you can catch a team off guard.
Kind of like that trick play a football team keeps in its back pocket for when they need it.

It is very difficult to apply full court pressure for an extended period of time at this level. What ends up happening is a lot of deficiencies in the half court on both ends due to fatigue. Most teams handle the ball well enough to break a full court press which leads to layups. WVU does this better than anyone in the nation, but at a cost. They have a very athletic roster full of guys that can defend, but that cannot shoot from the field or free throw line. There is a reason that you never see a full court press in the NBA. It can be used situationally in a college game but is very difficult to run for 40 minutes with any level of success.
