Vanderbilt had no business being a 9 seed. Should have been an 11.

Wichita State as a 10 is a crime. They should be a 6-7.

Besides that I don't have a lot of issues.

Tough year to make many issues as no one really jumped out screaming 'look at me, over here" Interesting listening to the Committee rep discuss the process.

I'm just glad Syracuse didn't get in. Go play somebody away from the Carrier Dome, otherwise don't expect to be rewarded w/ mediocre record.

Vandy played the #1 out of conference schedule in the nation. RT Rpi ranked their overall schedule #1 toughest in the nation. They played 11 games against teams in the top 25 of the rpi. They beat Florida 3 times who is ranked #10 in the same rpi. They beat Texas A&M three times and all were blowouts (a top 100 team). They played 25 games vs teams in the rt rpi top 100. After their only bad loss of the season at Mizzou, they won 7 of 9 to finish the season with the only losses to Kentucky and SEC tourney #2 Arkansas.

That is why the NCAA rated them the #33 team in the nation today. I like former Vandy assistant Dan Muller and his Illinois State program. But look at their schedule. They are in no way comparable to Vandy. If there is a mid-major who deserves the spotlight it's MTSU and they certainly are getting it.

Disclosure:
This post from an Ohio alumnus who has season tickets at Vandy (and is a Vanderbilt legacy) and a daughter who graduated from MTSU with honors in a double major of psych/sociology.

+1 Syracuse is the most annoying and most overrated program ever for this. Heck they never play outside the state of New York til January. Drives me nuts

Fixed it for you in bold. That's basically literally what the committee told mid-majors tonight. Will we (and the MAC) listen?

The team that I think had a legitimate argument about not getting in was Ill. State.

And really, unless you're a 'Cuse fan, that's about the only team. That happened, IMO, because a large number of mids that were worthy of discussion won their conference tournament, and the other bubble majors lost early last week.

That's all fine and dandy - you still have to get them to play you. That's why I dislike the use of Top 50 wins as the major evaluation point. I do enjoy them telling 'Cuse that 2 wins away from Home Sweet Dome ain't cuttin' it. Maybe we'll get to see a few more teams leaving the friendly confines once in awhile in December? That message I like.

While I can't argue with the quality of scheduling, I can argue with setting the precedent of an at-large team that has fifteen losses. At some point, there also has to be value on winning the games you scheduled. Just because you scheduled murderer's row, and won 55% of them means they're good? No way they're one of the best 33 teams in the country. Best 45, sure, maybe.

Also, is the 7th place team in the SEC really a tournament team just because they beat the Gators three times? Some teams create match-up issues for other teams that are a lot better than them. That doesn't necessarily make them a good team.

The Missouri Valley is about to be "MACed". Meaning, the NCAA doesn't care how good your conference is. They want it to be a 1 bid conference. So it will be.

It would seem that way. They didn't care how good Monmouth was last year despite their doing practically everything right. And we know damn well that if MTSU hadn't won their conference tournament that odds were that they might have faced the same fate.

Eventually the NCAA had to put up or shut up on strength of schedule. Also on how you play down the stretch. That is why they felt *RIGHT NOW* Vandy was the 33rd best... not over the entire season. They didn't rank VU at 33 just because Bryce Drew is a nice guy or because Luke Kornet has a 3.71 in a triple major. They did it to live up to what they had been preaching for years to teams that were left out from playing too many cupcakes or sucking late in the season.
