I'm on the verge of pulling out my hair over Jordan Dartis' passivity, unselfishness, whatever you want to call it, in regard to not making himself more of a force offensively. Especially with Jason Carter out of the lineup. I've watched college ballers since 1970 and I don't recall someone who shoots it as well as Jordan who didn't have a killer instinct to score points. He has a right to, because he's got a great stroke. And the team needs it. He plays a position where points are expected; isn't that why they call it shooting guard? I really thought he'd become more assertive as a junior, as Nick Kellogg did. Hey, guys like Walter Luckett, Dave Jamerson, even Bean Willis, came out firing practically before they left the lockerroom! (You know what I mean...)

If it's not in Jordan's DNA, maybe coach Phillips should force the issue by systematically calling and running plays for him. I like Jordan, but this HAS to change. We're losing a key element in this regard that other teams quite often use against us. How many times have we had to cringe watching a rival player hit a few shots, then torch us for 25 or more because his teammates feed him the ball. That doesn't happen with Jordan because he seldom takes enough shots to get in a rhythm. It was painful watching him go long stretches without impacting the offense in the second half last night against Iona. I don't know what the answer is. But I hope there is one. This kid can be quite a weapon--if he'll allow himself to be...

He needs to expand his game and learn how to create his own shot. He reminds me of Brynn Forbes. Block needs to stay aggressive and Laster and Kirk are the best at creating their own shot.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

I haven't seen the Clemson Dartis yet. The guy who was shooting mid-range shots and driving to the hole. But some on here may need to come upon the realization that this is who Dartis is. He is a spot up shooter who can sometimes drive to the hole but not consistently. He's a character guy and vocal leader who hits free throws and can throw daggers from 30 feet. If Butler and Kirk continue to drive the hole and Laster keeps staying aggressive, I'm ok with Dartis remaining as is.

Y'all ever thought that maybe since all of our bigs (except Dougie) are out that defenses might be keying on Jordan a little bit? And that the offense is designed to get the best shot possible, regardless of who shoots it? Once JC gets back in the lineup, Jordan is going to be open for kick outs a lot more.

That being said, even Saul has said Jordan needs to get more shots up. It's early guys. Don't look into things too much until we get some of the other guys back from injuries.

The problem is we don't see the offense run on very many possessions. Dartis is still playing Saul Ball but he and Block might be the only ones. I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment about Jason Carter. With no interior scoring threat teams are really pressuring the perimeter. Even when we get it inside teams aren't leaving the perimeter guys but we haven't been able to make them pay very often. Would love to see Dartis get the ball more coming off of screens.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Iona doubled the post every time the ball was thrown low.

They were getting weak-side help but they didn't have to collapse guys off the strong side like we had to do last year against Jimmy Hall. If you play Jason Carter with that kind of defense he's going to drop 25 points on you.

That is pure philosophy, some will help, "cheat", collapse on ball side, others will never help off ball side and bring weak side help with off the ball rotation. So the fact that because they did not collapse off the strong side, does not mean they did not double the post. Iona flat out doubled the post last night when touched by a big, just not from the strong side.

Another thing to consider as you reference the Clemson game: Dartis lit them up just as you describe in the first half, but at halftime, Clemson focused on him, and extended their defense out a couple more feet to take away what he was doing. In that second half he was mostly ineffective.

Honestly, I think where this team is right now is pretty darn good, with one healthy big, and the major minutes and contributions they're getting from Laster, Block, Dartis, Kirk. All of those guys are playing great.

Jordan has a nice stroke and he definitely need to keep shooting it. I believe he plays better defense when he is lightning it up on the offensive end. Go Jordan!
