Pablum. Very disappointed in the lack of detail in Slade's presentation.

One shocking fact: Nearly 8 months into our capital campaign for football - after all serious donors undoubtedly have been courted - Donny Harrison's $2 million commitment has attracted only $500k in additional funds. We can't do anything meaningful for less than $20M. I've heard that Donny is very disappointed.

Also disappointing was the lack of substantive questions from BOT members, particularly Bob Wolfinger, who is highly engaged with Ohio Athletics. Not a single question about how we are positioned vs. peer institutions to handle NIL and revenue sharing. No discussion of competitive disadvantages (facilities/funding). Nada.

I'll say it again - the administration does not care about sports. They care about academics (good) and profit. They care about football inasmuch as it provides profit. Everyone else? Good luck to ya, because you're not even an afterthought. More like a nuisance.

This might have been true about some past administrations. I don't think it's true of the current one.

Is a BOT meeting really a place where a tough question is going to be asked?

These don't seem to be hard questions; they're obvious ones. If we can't answer them in a public forum, we're farther behind than I thought.

I understand completely. People don't think it's worth their money. If I could give 2M away, it would be for some cause or causes, far more important than paying these players.

You might be onto something there. I have and do donate to Ohio athletics and sports teams. If I had $2M burning a hole in my pocket I'd absolutely consider donating to Ohio University. That being said - I'm not sure I'd want my $2M donation to just end up in the pockets of 19 year olds just "because". Give to the institution, not the players. I wonder how many others feel the same way and if it will manifest as an impact on donations.

Places like tO$U have been figuring out ways to line players pockets for decades. They can just do it legally now. So I'm sure they'll have no issues. I'm talking for everyone else.

This fund is largely intended for facilities improvements, training table and other non NIL purposes.

This is getting a little off topic but my wife and I recently went to a show at the Schottenstein Center and when I paid for a beer it asked me if I wanted to roundup or leave a few dollars extra with my purchase. It took me a few seconds to register that it was for an OSU athlete NIL fund, not a charity or tip.

I of course left nothing with that purchase, but seems like a tactic OU could employ at games and concerts at the Memorial Auditorium. Bring concerts back to the Convo.
