I’m noticing a couple of the recruits have posted that they will be signing on Wednesday hours after the announcement about Coach Smith. Wonder if they have been told anything more?

This whole situation is odd. If it was something known earlier and bad, would they have waited until the end of the season to act? Is it a sudden issue? Why bust into a meeting if you were willing to wait until the end of the season to act?

Charlie Fadel, sports editor from The Post: “I reached to Ohio athletics to ask about a possible press conference for John Hauser and whether or not the leave for Brian Smith was paid or unpaid.

I was told that there is “no information to share beyond the posted announcement at this time.”

Man, it's such an ominous and vague announcement. Bad PR strategy in my untrained opinion. It leaves us speculating everything. The timing is suspect. If it's health or family, what's the harm in posting something along those lines in the statement? Coach could even release a statement indicating he's dealing with a health or family issue.

Nothing has surfaced concerning a legal issue. He hasn't been fired. Nothing from the AD. We're left in the wind. It's awfully strange and now everyone has eyes on and is speculating.

Look, I was hoping some news reporter would do this, but there is public record of a pending contested divorce filing by Smith’s wife last summer. The records in this case have been sealed. So I’m pretty sure this is family related, though sometimes allegations in messy divorces can draw scrutiny.

Posting details of these rumors would be a violation of board rules, but the divorce petition is public record.

If Smith isn't going to come back (an assumption), will John Hauser be the man?
If not, now is the time to jump on hiring a new coach.
Signings coming up, portal opening. Players need to know what's going to happen. If not, we will be behind the 8 ball.

Would Mark Stoops come north? He might be looking for stability in a conference like the MAC. Getting older,
might turn out to be like a Frank Solich, ending his career on a high note @ OU.

There are some good coaches in this league now. Hope we don't get left behind.

Sincerely doubt it.

Things don’t move that fast. They haven’t even announced vacated wins for the guy who went on TV and confirmed he was throwing games years ago.
