I was hardly a fan of Jim Schaus but he did respond to emails. Julie Cromer is not making any friends by ignoring fan input. This isn't Arkansas - I very much doubt she is receiving 100+ fan emails, even on a monthly basis.

I've noticed a lack of customer "service" under the new regime. As an example, under Schaus, if Ohio football or basketball was coming to Akron or Kent, there was always a call beforehand to encourage attendance by local supporters. That doesn't seem to happen anymore.

I disagree.

If not her personally, someone in her office should be reading every email sent to her and sending out at least an "acknowledgement".

"Relevant" emails could then be given to her to read and responded to.

+1.

Especially in "modern times" now-a-days. People have a so many options with how to spend their free time and entertainment dollars. If they don't feel like they matter at least a little to the company they spend dollars with, they have other options to go elsewhere with both time and money.

I'd really like to see the difference in revenue between having a Friday night game on TV versus a Saturday afternoon where a potentially decent crowd could be on hand given these factors:

1. Senior Day, including one of the best Bobcats we've had in a while in his last game in the Convo.

2. Kent, while not a rival, is always a good draw and usually a really good game.

3. Most high school games in the area are probably playing on Friday, and the ones that aren't may have been bounced from the tournament already.

4. The other games we'll be competing with for eyeballs that night: Harvard at Columbia (ESPNNews), Davidson at Dayton (ESPN2), Villanova at Creighton (FS1), loaded NBA schedule and a smattering of women's basketball games.

I don't know how much money we're making off of these, since CBS is only airing 12 football games and 12 basketball games a season. And all of that money is split between the conference members. It can't be THAT large.

Calculate into all of this the fact that Ohio's hockey club (currently ranked #4) will have a game at 7 pm as well. A good number of students will certainly be there rather than in the Convo.

Not a knock on our outstanding club hockey team but this does kind of put a crimp in the argument that athletic events need to be “big time” for student interest.

Ohio hockey might as well be varsity. It's presented as if it is and to my eye, it appears to be high level competent players, and they do recruit.

The chasm between what Ohio Hockey is and real DI hockey, is amazing! Not to mention Hockey is the most expensive sport to have and maintain.

Oh for sure, we would get crushed by any D1 varsity team. I mean to say that average fans and students might put our club team on the same playing field as our varsity teams, and not think of hockey as second rate to basketball.

Ohio hockey is on a par with mid to upper level D-3. Most of the OU players played jr hockey with future D1 players in the NAHL.
As far as how the program is run and presented it is on a par with the elite D3 programs. There no longer is a hockey D2 so its either D1 or D3. Not many team around campus can bang out 2,000 a game twice in one weekend with everyone paying their way in.

I agree. As someone who spent almost all of their career in external affairs, not acknowledging an outside contact early on was recognized as the quickest route for an issue, or even a simple inquiry, ballooning into something much more. It was always a given that an early acknowledgment of such a contact was step one, even if a resolution or intermediate response was not on the immediate horizon. If the situation called for it, it was also important to try to manage expectations by offering, if at all possible, some further idea of when a follow-up contact with them about the matter might be made.

Nothing too profound here really as I’m sure many of you have used and/or experienced similar practices.

However, having mentioned all of this, I think it’s still a little early to be too critical. The athletic director did, after all as I recall, initiate the communications about receiving input. I’d expect that she is still trying to get everything fine tuned. Who knows, maybe she and her staff have some particularly pressing issue(s); perhaps even some things that came up after her outreach. Of course, I can offer this opinion since I have not been trying to reach out to them. ;)

If the inquiries are indeed that numerous, I would expect that at some point in the future they might prepare general templates in order to be able to respond, either by email or letter, more quickly to the common questions that they receive. A “fill in the blanks, tweaking the content, cut and paste kind of thing”. Granted that may not be the most personal method of contact or “special treatment” but it can be both expeditious and provide a consistent message. It would also enable them to squeeze out more time to respond to those inquiries that require more work, including more direct, personal contact, as needed.

Is this thread about the Kent State game?

Does anyone know if the ‘Kent State Gun Girl’ is going to be in attendance?

I'm in Nassau at a casino resort, wife won work trip. Definitely placing my stones on Bobcats tonight since we can watch first half in sportsbook before her event. Got a dozen folks joining us for karma.

I'm thrilled to just see the team on tv, sorry that change inconvenienced others.

I fully understand that moving a game to an entirely new day and up a half hour is problematic for work, school, kids, etc.. I don't like it either. At the same time, we heard the same kind of sentiment when the Purdue game time was announced and that it was in the middle of the shopping season, along with the students being gone. Couple all this together and it just reminds us that in many instances we're a "not ready for primetime" fanbase.
If you're the fan of a "primetime team," you come to expect that even 1-2 weeks out you may have no clue what time your game is going to be until the networks announce it. Being 2-2.5 hours from Morgantown, I know many/many/many season ticket holders who make it to games all season long. In fact, when you see bad weather, or WVU gets moved to a 9pm weeknight game--I turn on the broadcast and the place still seems packed. Even when school is out and the opponent is good, there's a student section, cheerleaders, etc... whereas we can't pull it off and having a Purdue type team doesn't happen all the time like it does in Morgantown where brand name opponents are more customary. And last i checked, Athens and Morgantown aren't exactly metropolitan megacenters. Not sure we could handle the pricing, scheduling demands and inconveniences if we did become the next Gonzaga.

BVP with the jam, we have to hit the the free throws and we need throw crisper passes with more zip so that dart is can get some threes off. McDay is a very heady player, he plays like a junior with a freshman body.

Who else has noticed a change in Ben's free throw mechanics inthe last few games? He's taking more time and putting more arc on the shot. Not once tonight did I feel he was a liability stepping to the line.

Tremendous win and hopefully a sign of things to come. Without a doubt the best week this program has had in about three years.

When we play fundamentally sound, we do really well. Tonight we hit free throws, we protected the basketball, and we boxed out (with the exception of that sequence where Peterson got, I think, 3 open looks from 3). McDay with a monster 2nd half, but nothing from BRod. Murrell played hard and gave us valuable minutes with Sly in foul trouble. 2 games left, both on the road. I think this will be more interesting that most of us thought a few months ago.

+1 on impact of McDay and Murrell minutes. Not perfect, but effective minutes from both. McDay minutes were awesome. Roderick had a typical Freshman week, great up game and then an equally tough down game. Preston, McDay, Roderick, BVP, such a nice core to work with for the next two years (hopefully).
