Mostly what I think when I see men wearing hats in restaurants and jerseys on dates is that no one ever taught them the right way. My dad was a blue collar guy, but taught me the right way to dress and be a gentlemen. Sadly, when you look around those days are gone.

Have you walked in a public school lately and observed the attire?

Students' attire or that of the faculty?

Both. I once worked with a teacher in Pickaway County who wore shorts to school because "he could" and he "defied the administration" to tell him otherwise. Not saying coats and ties and dresses are required but jeans on regular basis and a tee shirt is a bit much.

Don't disagree. MS and HS students here in Newark have a dress code, enforced to various degrees depending on the building.

I'm a bit flabbergasted I need to say this, but: Tastes and fashions change. It's all subjective. What passed 30, 40 years ago would have looked ridiculous 100 years before that and that would have looked silly 100 years prior to that. What looks good now won't in a couple decades. Heck, go to different parts of the world and "proper" fashion is going to vary wildly. There is no universal standard.

JSF, I do agree with you on your last comment. However, wearing jerseys and gear to anyplace other than the game or cleaning out the garage is unacceptable to me. I know most will disagree.

Orlando - while others have jumped to (critical) conclusions on why you want to get a jersey (and then backtracked to acknowledge their acceptance in certain situations), I'm just wondering if you found what you need? (FYI - sorry to hear about your condition)

For a long time on BA we've had the grammar police; now I see we have the fashion police. Put me down as a not-so-active member of the former, and one who thinks the latter is just plain silly. The only fashion enforcer that I listen to is my wife, who makes me take my ball cap off in restaurants. I affectionately refer to her as a "hat Nazi."

Jeans are common in numerous settings everyday. Not a big deal and not going away.

I wonder what the fashion police think about wearing loafers with workout shorts and shirts? #AskingForAFriend

I told my wife to shoot me if I ever displayed that look.

What if it were the result of losing a bet? ;)

I also sport a man purse in the warmer months when I don’t wear a sport coat. Where else can a guy keep his keys, phone and lipstick?
