This kid can HIT.

You have to think these DB's we have signed like seeing former BOBCATS like Mike Mitchell running around the NFL.

I also think that these DBs are excited to play the attack and react Cover-4. When it was adopted I said I thought it would attract some better defensive players because they would want to be a part. This class is awesome, but especially so on the defensive side.

I sure hope there is no academic problem, because if he gets to Athens, no way he redshirts next year....

Uhhhhhh.

Looks like a 2 way player to me.

I love that Doc (Charlie Brown) Bobcat runs up to kick the (3-4 star stud who may have an issue qualifying) ball every February. :)

I do hope this kid qualifies and has a great student-athlete career at OHIO. One of these kids has to work out one year. No?

Kick?

I'm not the one who started the academic crap. I guess I drink too much frikkin green koool aid. You can explain the Charlie Brown reference. I hope its frikkin funny.

Show me the kickin threads.

You have me confused with someone who takes this crap seriously.

As Sonny Bono said...It aint me babe.

So, only people with academic issues sign with Ohio?

Ohio69's cynical analogy is this: Every year Lucy holds out the ball, and Charlie Brown optimistically tries to kick it. He's saying that every year Ohio announces signing some great player, and we rush to embrace them, only to be disappointed when Lucy pulls the ball away, er, he fails to qualify. In the anology, I personally would much rather play the part of Charlie Brown than play the part of Lucy, so I'll join you Doc.

Yes, some good players who have been signed have failed to qualify. Others have qualified. We'll just have to wait and see on that, in the meantime, the DBs in this class appear to be outstanding, and Deontai is clearly a great player, rated in the ESPN Top 300. Welcome to Ohio, Deontai!

So every year I pick one player that I like who doesn't show up.

I guess that will always happen.

If you want to make sure that doesn't hsppen then root for OSU.

The AJC blog thinks OHIO isn't a FBS school.

"Williams is the ninth recruit from UGA’s 2015 class to de-commit, although the other eight all picked FBS schools. The Bulldogs have also flipped five from rival schools."

Here's another indicator that says he'll really be in Athens in September. Go back to January 30th, and see a tweet from Javon Hagen:
https://twitter.com/Von_Legacy/status/561183866770423808

Then today:
https://twitter.com/Von_Legacy/status/562992551645691904

Note that he doesn't say "Got a surprise signing with Ohio", he says "Got a surprise coming to Athens". I'm a believer.

I think the key to the late additions to this class is that Ohio signed two leaders early, Mayne Williams and Javon Hagen. Both were rock-solid on Ohio. Both were leaders. Both sold their teammates on Ohio, and the result is the additions of Deontai Williams, Demetrius Colbert, and Jeff Christian.

Some people have such low self esteem when it comes to Ohio that when they see a high major recruit switch to Ohio they ignore the real reason he made the switch (he wanted to follow his friend) and make up other reasons (it must be his grades) to justify their low self esteem. Sad.

And they come from solid, winning programs. Trinity just won their FLA state championship and were a top 50 national team.

Success breeds success.

BIG +1

Frank changed the culture. The minority wanting to run him out of town don't seem to recognize the significance of the culture change he brought to Athens.

Deontai WILLiams be a Bobcat. That shouldn't be a surprise. That should be an expectation.

Per the press conference, he is among a small group that have not completely qualified yet, but he is on track, and they think he has a good shot at qualifying.

Thanks Dr Freud and your assistant in analyzing folks on here. You guys are somehow confusing an observation that we don't get many high 3 or 4 star guys who have other options with the P5. It doesn't happen often, and when it happens it's always has seemed to be because of academic issues. Sad that you think it had anything to do with low self esteem or a dislike of what Frank has done here.

What is sad is that you think that it not happening often in the past means it won't happen often in the future. Doesn't take a Dr to figure out the results for many years in this program were unacceptable.

A good chunk of "the people on here" would prefer that guys go to TSUN because they don't even recognize that we are competing for the same players. We are trying to compete in FBS football and we can't even get some of you buying into what is happening here...

Newsflash...
2/5 of our incoming DB's had offers from the SEC
3/5 had offers from the Big 10

Who says we can't compete?

If you need an excuse to believe that a young man would want to continue his higher education at OHIO UNIVERSITY, why are you even here?

News flash - the financial disparity in the value of a scholarship from a P5 conference and the MAC is increasing as we speak. And as far as your questioning my love for Ohio University, you are off base, and thank goodness I don't have to worry about warped people like you who are so quick to judge other people's thoughts and motivations.

I just immediately think Kenny Ashley and Trae Clark whenever a situation like this happens with a stud recruit, who we may never actually see end up here. But this one could be different and I really hope it is.

I suspect that the reason that Stevens-McKenzie wasn't allowed to sign was academics. The coaches indicated last night that they believe Williams has a good chance of becoming eligible. Hopefully the program is to the point where they won't sign someone that they know will not be eligible because they have other good prospects they can sign who most likely will be able to become eligible.

Until word comes that he did not qualify, I'm going to expect him to show up this fall, and expect him to play immediately.

The fact is that Georgia doesn't need to take chances on players who are on "pace"to qualify, so they can just move when it happens. Ohio is taking a chance on this guy qualifying (and it doesn't seem like it costs us much), and I really hope that it works out for us.
FWIW, Georgia had the #4 and #10 safeties in the country(ESPN) signed in their class this year.

I'll take academic issues over character issues any day of the week. Character flaws are a lot more difficult to deal with. The guy was recruited by half the ACC (including UNC, which has its own way of taking care of academic issues) and a third of the SEC, and he chose Ohio sight unseen based on contacts he had with the coaches who were recruiting a teammate. You gotta love it!
