You mean to tell me coach didn't even make it back to Athens before closing out this deal? On the phone while on the bus with his guys that got him there? This seems pretty wild to me.

Our theory, FWIW, was it was already a done deal and we were waiting for him to finish his season. It would be super lame for him to sign the deal and leave before you won the championship.

Also pretty lame to spend the week planning your next step instead of focusing on your current job. I know it's the name of the game but I sure don't like it. Those players were fully committed all week to their mission only to find out their leader was looking beyond.

+1. Love what he has done in Athens but disappointed he was planning to bail even before the MAC Championship. Have to be some disappointed guys on the team.

If this is true, there has got to be a lot more to the story than we know, because on the surface leaving OHIO for UNCC makes not a lick of sense, even if its for a few more shekels.

I think the move has something to do with UNCC devoting more $ to NIL than Ohio could ever hope to. I wonder I’d Albin knew that with Ohio’s lack of $, he had no chance of retaining players, or even recruiting them.

I suspect the move has a lot to do with NIL. UNCC has it or is getting it, Ohio is not. Maybe I’m wrong.

We might have more NIL, really don't know the numbers for either. However, if I'm not mistaken, we are somewhere around the middle or lower for our conference (AAC). I'd wager we have more NIL than Ohio, but I don't think that's the big deal. Especially since I've been told elsewhere Albin made it at Ohio with many walk-ons.

For open jobs, we were viewed higher than some others you might expect. Reasons are:
- Big city
- Good/great conference
- New program (2013). Albin has a chance to make a permanent mark on our program. We have one winning season so far.

I saw repeatedly from various talking heads that we were viewed surprisingly (to me) high with coaches for this reason.

And my understanding is he would be getting a pay raise here as well.

I don’t mean this as an insult to Albin because I think he’s done a good job, but I would temper your assessment of him being a huge program builder. Frank Solich built this program. He inherited a coaching staff from Frank Solich, as well as many of his impact players, including our QB today. He’s also about to be 60 years old.

His staff is also made up of some former OU players and younger promising talent, and you would think many of the best would stay here to take his job/get promotions.

I'll disagree with this assessment a bit. Albin faced the difficult decision of firing a long time coach right away when the defense was struggling. He poached two top assistants from the teams rival which turned the program around. He demoted the OC and promoted from within when the offense was underperforming. He's made tougher moves internally in a four years than Frank did in 15 or so years.

He lost 53 players in a year and won a MAC Championship. I don't think he's getting enough credit.

Yea, that's a figure we had seen on our board and touted as a credit to his ability. At least from an outside perspective, that seemed very good and made him quite appealing. And it's a skill we will surely need as I wouldn't be surprised if we have already lost upwards of 50 guys entering the portal.

Charlotte stole a great coach. Sorry Ohio Bobcats it is what it is. The other other poster is trying to act all civil and nice. Don't let him fool you. He is over on the ninernation board taking about your SAT scores. Don't worry we will treat Coach Albin just fine. Its a shame he didn't have the class you thought he did when the news broke but hey that's how college sports work! Enjoy your bowl! He probably won't coach it anyway!

You still here trying to console the Bobcats? Get back to the Charlotte board and let's talk about next year.

Hit me up on there. You claim to be a poster, so you can see in that thread who is the one who reported to have gone to the Ohio forum to put out your grease fire.

Seriously, whatever you are, grow up. Your schtick is lame. If you aren't a troll, you are a terrible representative of Charlotte and an embarrassment. Either way, the effect is bad. Not like we have a ton of great athletic press as it is.

I'm a big fan of Tim Albin but I'm not overly sad to see him leave. I'm happy he'll be able to coach a team in a bigger conference, make more money and be in a larger market.

Does it suck to see him leave? A little bit but Ohio is already an established G5 program and will find a suitable replacement.

To the one Charlotte fan (Niner49) having a victory parade while trolling us, I don't think you're having the impact you thought you'd have. We respect Albin and he'll always hold a special place in our program for his accomplishments but he's not likely someone that'll instantly make your school relevant.

There's a good chance OU will continue to succeed regardless of who we hire so we have no need to be depressed here in Athens. Solich built our program. Albin inherited it and took it to another level but I'm not sure he can create a winning culture from nothing. We'll see how it works out in Charlotte.

I have no idea who you are, and I highly doubt you are a real poster. You don't sound like you even understand our board's interface. If you did, you would know who to reply to on there if you want to talk to me.

In any event, I'm not going to continue littering these fine people's board with our squabble. Hmu over there if you are so inclined.

And I thought I was weird. Can you just hire Tim away so I don’t have encounter Charlotte fans anymore?

Frank Solich built something with a foundation. So Ohio will simply pluck another person from the assembly line and probably win 70 percent of its games.

If this is true and Albin is headed to Charlotte, I wish him nothing but the best and I will root for him.

He has been in Athens since 2005. Three straight 10 win seasons after taking the reins from Coach Solich. Now a MAC Championship on his resume.

I understand the desire to earn more $$$ and seek out new opportunities. That said, football wise this is an obvious downgrade and a puzzling move. Charlotte is an absolutely pathetic program, I am sorry. But I understand the desire to rebuild a program. It's like when you're playing NCAA football on Playstation and pick a hapless team to rebuild just to test your skills.

Ohio will be fine. There are plenty of men who can step up and do a great job at OUr program. We thought after losing Kurtis Rourke to the transfer portal that we would have to rebuild. Wrong, MAC Champions. It is possible that with the infrastructure that Solich/Albin built that the next HC could take us to even higher heights.

I love Coach Albin and want him to stay and wish that CFB wasn't like this. But this is the reality. $$$ talks and it would for me in my personal life too. So if Ohio is unable or unwilling to match what Albin is worth, I understand his decision completely.

Correct on all fronts.

I have no doubt OU will be just fine, what does give me pause is IF OU told Albin they couldn’t get to $1M. I think that will obviously hurt us down the road with multiple teams in the conference out pacing us in pay.

Will be interesting to see what we pay the next guy. Because I will be flat-out stunned if Albin took the UNCC job for a $300K pay raise.

Would any Charlotte team in the last 20 years have beaten an Ohio team? Doubtful. I didn’t know they had a football program. There has to be way more to this story. You go to OK State fine, I get it, this move stinks of drama from the Athletic Dept.

People want this to be fact SO BADLY.

Even if it had a remote kernel of truth, you deal with the “drama” make a million a year and win 10 games every season. You don’t flee for the first job you’ve ever interviewed for - which is arguably one of the worst jobs in the country for a slightly higher raise. You know what’s real drama? A doormat of a program that has 5K fans going .500 and you’re unable to get a job again bc you’re a 65 year old man who collapsed in the AAC of all places.

Our program is only 11 years old. One winning season. In those 11 years, doubt any would have beaten yall. Easy to have missed the news.

Contrary to what some have said, this isn't a rebuild, this is simply a build. Part of the draw is this is an opportunity to put your mark on a program. If we do well, he will be the first coach to do so.

Another Ohio poster made a good point that Albin is forever under the shadow of your great coach Solich. If I read right, your field is even named after him. This is an opportunity for Albin to do something entirely out of the shadow of anyone. He would be the shadow. That may be a considerable part of the draw here.

So did my high school.

The only reason I know UNCC has a football team is because Poggi called out how bad the fans were almost weekly. 😂

I have no ill will for you and Charlotte fans, however weird I think this move is. Just a really low character way to leave for Albin after 20 years if what we are hearing is true.
