My daughter's band had more trophies in a school of 2000 kids than all other sports combined including a state championship in baseball. There were concert t-shirts and merch for that "Wicked" show. Yes, it took an 18-wheeler to haul the gear to competitions but nobody complained as it was a major source of pride in that community. I see nothing wrong with that.

If it's any consolation, when those two band directors left the program became a shadow of it's former self.

I apologize for saying they finished #6 in the nation, they were #8...

They ran out of room for trophies in the band room and built extra trophy cases for the hallway of the school.

Morgan State had Akron beat last year and literally handed them the game with a fumble returned for a TD in the final minute. I know Akron kinda sucked last year, but I'm channeling my inner-McKinney on this one and could see it not being as comfortable as we plan.

I hope our situation isn't so dire we're in danger of losing to a team that lost 14-9 to Towson.

I have different thoughts about these games, most want to see the back-ups to the back-ups, I want to see us hang 70 on them and iron out as much of the playbook as possible heading into Kentucky and MAC play.

FWIW, Sagarin rates Morgan at 223, similar to Fordham and Duquesne -- which both lost badly to MAC teams in Week 1 -- and Colgate -- which plays Akron this week. Towson is at 174. Ohio is at 110 (no relationship to the band).

The team that lost at home to NIU he still has ranked in the top ten.

The team that lost at home to the team beaten by NIU he still has in the top 20.

He has VaTech at #48 even though they got beat by a team he has at #83

etc etc etc

I'm starting to think he is not a reliable source.

One thing Morgan has been able to do is hang onto the ball. No TOs in their first two games, while getting two INTs. Our D needs to step up and create turnovers.

We should be able to get to their QB. They've given up nine sacks in two games,tied for 108th in their subdivision. We've given up six, so that needs to improve.

Sagarin is in the latter group. They used to be in USA Today, who expected a "Sagarin Poll" to be published each week of the season, so they couldn't just sit at wait for enough data for real results. They had to publish numbers every week, even after just 1-2 games. Are they of any value? That's for you to decide. At this point, probably 70% of the number is based on preseason predictions, and 30% is based on the 2 weeks of data that they have. After week 3, it will probably be 50% on real data, 50% preconceived notions. By week six, all numbers will be solely based on actual results.

The point here is, when you look at numerical polls, whether Sagarin, or some other one, don't expect them to be meaningful during the first 5-6 weeks. They simply don't have enough data yet. In time they will, but not yet...

I like Navarro. However, I'd prefer that he throws the deep ball just enough to keep teams on their toes.
