Looks like their QB Mischler is out. He injured his knee last week. I was looking forward to watching him come back and play in Athens.

Off topic a bit: I finally got my Roku to let me watch ESPN3.

You have to re-activate if you switched from, let's say, Hulu to AT&T since the last time you had ESPN+ and I had to do it on all three sets, one at a time.

I got to watch Southeastern Louisiana and their 6-7/255 QB. It was like trying to tackle a defensive end when he pulled it down and ran. If he doesn't make it in the NFL as a QB (and he WILL get drafted)... he might try out as a TE. But he's fairly mobile and has a nice passing touch. Probably already as good as some of the backups in the NFL.

That it's Parents Weekend is this game attendance's saving grace. Overlap with OSU/Oregon, last week's result, FCS opponent, this attendance might be sub-12,000 otherwise.

What I'm looking for in this game:

No messing about - dominate both lines. Running lanes and pass rushing without the need of a blitz

Aggressively attempt to convert first downs before getting to third down.

Run some hurry up offense after converting first downs.

Attempt some option runs with Armani.

The Ivy and Pioneer leagues (Dayton) are the only FCS football conferences that do not offer scholarships. Duquesne, along with apparently the rest of the NEC, offers up to 40 scholarships. The norm for FCS is 63. I realize our FCS opponent this year was supposed to be Gardner-Webb and things had to be shuffled around, but we should not be regularly scheduling the NEC. Yet we have LIU in coming years, Miami has LIU this year, Buffalo and EMU already played Wagner and St. Francis this year, respectively.

If we're going to play FCS games, please can we play programs from conferences going all in on it?

For the second week in a row the audio is horrible on the coach's presser. There is no excuse for the poor production quality of these videos. Last week I watched about a third of our video and gave up. I then watched the one from Syracuse. It was night and day. The Syracuse one had excellent audio and better video in terms of lighting and color fidelity. I watched the whole thing. Why can't OHIO get its act together on these videos? The ones that Russell and company produce are fine. The ones that are the responsibility of other nameless minions in the AD's office look and sound like they were produced by students at the Athens Middle School.

Which one of these might happen in this game?

Armani will improve his passing game.

Rourke will improve his running game.

+1
presser audio quality is embarrassing.

Unfortunately, I think neither. A player's skill set is his MO. Albin needs to figure out how to use both QBs effectively - unless you think a 2-QB system is the kiss of death.

I understand your struggles as I like a high quality video as much as the next guy. I've heard rumblings that they currently have no video department and had to hire a third party to complete the tasks. Rumor has it is a student from Athens Middle School and she needs to complete her math homework for Ms. Summers' class before she is allowed to create video content.

You've heard the old adage, "if you have two, you don't have one". I think that same logic applies here.

I think if we would have won we would be saying Rourke is our man.

If we would have scored a TD then maybe we would be saying Rourke is our man.

Armani should at least get a chance to improve OUr red zone offense which currently is zilch or as the PA man puts it is nil.

The real issue with these 2 QB is that the world knows their strengths and weaknesses, so there are no surprises.
Until these 2 show that their weaknesses are now strengths we will be too predicable.

One of life's strange turns -- Joe Mischler's replacement is Darrius Perrantes, a Rhode Island transfer who last played for URI in 2019, the year that URI last visited Peden, which was also Mischler's last year with Ohio. Perrantes didn't play in that game; Mischler was o-1.

Despite Ohio's offensive shutdown last week, I doubt that any of us believes that the Dukes have much of a chance this week. They lost by only 45-3 vs TCU, but it was 35-0 at the half and they mutually agreed to shorten the second half by six minutes. TCU played only backups in the second half. I expect a big win for Ohio with plenty of PT for Kurtis, Armani and maybe a few other QBs.

This season kind of reminds me of the span of time between Tettleton and Nathan Rourke where we didn't have a QB who was able to consistently distance himself from the pack.

Names like Vick, Windham, Sprague etc. come to mind.

Others may remember it differently but it was not as cut and dry as it was when we had two of the best players in school history at QB1.

There's also a big book report due for Mr. Barrington coming up. (although I think he is now retired).

Reminds me of the thread from last spring, when two posters told me vehemently that the number of scholarships do not matter!

And I agree, playing a partially funded FCS school is NOT exciting to me at all.

The pressers with terrible quality are zooms that I assume the SID is recording. Starting last year we were required to send a copy of those to the conference. To break down some differences, pre Syracuse was a incorrectly recorded zoom (360p quality). Post game Syracuse I BELIEVE is a correctly recorded one (720p). The one you saw today I’m going to go out on a limb and say today’s was given to the department by WOUB (complete guess, but their microphone was the only one on the table). I’ve said this in other threads, but right now Ohio has no video department. I along with the other members of the video staff left at various times over the last 5 months. Everything you all see now is made by students (Russ is in the video, but a student shoots it and edits it). So until you see Athletics video job openings get posted and then eventually taken down, assume a student did it or a non video person did it.

You’d think that a school with such top notch journalism/RTV schools could use these pressers as meaningful experiences for our aspiring students majoring in those fields.

You mean as far as them recording them? Today’s was a journalism student. Bryan Kurp from WOUB. The tricky thing with the pressers is their time. A lot of people have class and can’t make it hence the reason why myself as a full time staff member was the one that always had to cover it. Another issue is the lack of relationship between the journalism school and athletics. WOUB has a very very strong portion of those students and they have a few that do great work on Bobcat Showcase. Athletics has some students, but there’s currently no one to lead/train them, so they’re just doing what they can on their own.

That makes sense. Thanks for the insight. What I always appreciated about my time in Athens was the ample opportunity being in an isolated place presented to the students. Often it took initiative on the part of the students. The payoff was significant.

Opportunities are still there. I went to a small college myself (Arkansas State, go Red Wolves!) and while the type of content expected of full time people changed between when I was in college and when I got the position at Ohio (I saw for the past two years how much you guys hated me replacing Russ recaps with fancier highlights. Was just trying to take us back to what Evan built there) I was never told no as a student and I tried to carry that same mentality when I had promising students. A large problem we had was that since we weren’t paying the students we had, we couldn’t advertise to find any, so they had to find us which didn’t happen much. The other issue is, college is so much busy work now, it’s hard for the students to find time to do all this extra stuff. When I was in college I didn’t care about grades (I was an A/B, but I never studied). Now, one bad grade gets your scholarships yanked so class is more important than shooting sports.

that is a shame. I was looking forward to watching Mischler play. The Dukes updated their two-deep to show Mischler was not on it for this week but it look like Ohio's game notes for this week still have last week's depth chart. Gotta keep things hid against a 28 point underdog?
