Anyone going up against a Dino Babers defense is allowed to be cocky.

Dot, you might reconsider that. The 3-3-5 is a tricky defense.

Your offense was actually very good but couldn't get it done in the Red Zone. Your defense allowed us to go run heavy. Our OL were noticeably bigger than your DL, your defense wore out in the 4th Q. Special Teams is correctable and should improve. The kicker looked pretty solid but not sure if he is one of the better kickers in D-1.

You should still have a VG team this year as your QB, RBs, OL and WRs should have a lot of success. It would not surprise me to see you come in first or second in your division.

We have a surprisingly limited number of offensive threats:

1. Rourke seems like a nice kid but has feet of clay. This is never going to change. I'm OK with Harris getting some looks in the next couple of weeks.

2. Tuggle seemed hesitant, slow to the hole in a number of cases. His error on the kickoff was a killer and simply unacceptable for a seasoned player.

3. The Tuggle run play resulting in a safety...slow to develop and just horrible. Everyone knew what we were going to do.

4. 50-yard field goal attempt was silly. Force them to work with their backs to the goal line. Their average drive starting position had to be the 30 yard line or better.

4. We need to stretch the field much more. Seems like our O coordinator has little confidence in his quarterbacks.

5. We use way too much time prior to each snap. Kills momentum. Lets the D adjust to our formations.

6. Really poor kick coverage. Lots of over-pursuit resulting in decent returns.

7. Someone PLEASE get Tim Albin some media training.

Overall very disappointing evening. As for the gameday experience, I'll share my complaints in another thread.

Gameday experience? I had a great experience. Music was fantastic, every staff member I interacted with was courteous, and the restrooms were clean. Concession lines were long, but what can you do. Despite the poor play on the field, I went home a happy Rabbi.

As a visiting fan: your concessions were atrociously bad. I saw the lines and never tried. On the bright side you sell beer and seltzer.

Bad concessions and being ill-prepared for a large crowd, unfortunately, are not new problems at Peden.

And whoever was all butt-hurt about some of these criticisms, too bad. I had a great day all around and would hardly change a thing, but glaring issues around the gameday experience at Peden, that have long since gone uncorrected, should not be ignored. This isn't one of those things like wishing we had a nicer facility that requires more money, this is something that if it was done better would lead to more (much needed) revenue. We left thousands in revenue on the table saturday. We still just let the concession lines take up the tunnel instead of using ropes or dividers and organizing the lines. Cheap, simple, uncorrected for decades. My beer was ice cold when I got it and I was thankful for that. but I was in line for 20 minutes. only one service window was open!!!!

I think we felt the impact of some of the guys missing. Keye Thompson and Jeremiah Wood are good athletes at OLB and I think would have made a big impact on some of those sweeping runs around tackle their back, Tucker, had success with. An experienced YAC receiver like Cox running seam and crossing routes could have given the offense a different dynamic.

And it's fine if you want to own time of possession at the beginning of the game or while the game is within one possession, but down multiple scores, why the hell are we waiting until the play clock is under five to snap the ball? Some of those deep connections to Buckner would have been great opportunities to already know what the next call will be and run it ASAP.

Something I didn't see considered: Babers was 2-0 vs. Ohio in his short stint at BG. Both of those games were blowouts. Think maybe that staff knew Albin's tendencies and exploited them?

And that's a huge problem. They knew going in this was going to be the biggest home game of the year and marketed it as such. And look what happens. Same old sh*t, different toilet.

I had the same thoughts -- even before the kickoff, but I was loathe to mention them for fear of being cast as a prophet of doom.

And yet it seems this phenomenon transcends multiple AD tenures.

Which makes no sense to me as so many have come from larger conferences or at least from schools with a large signature program vis a vis Wichita State Hoops that should know what high quality, efficient fan service should look like.

I've not been to as many venues and/or games as many of you, but from minor league baseball to multiple professional and NCAA stadia, nothing is as bad as Peden on a home Saturday or the Convo.

Are all of the hospitality management degree programs strictly online these days? Seems like there may be an opportunity there to partner with athletics?

Let's start with OHIO has the smallest support staff (by far), in the conference! Simply not enough people to provide the proper level of experience in a 91 year old stadium that has not had an interior capital update in 40 years now.

Hence my comment for the university to maybe get a little creative in expanding beyond the limited staff available to the athletic department.

IMHO you could still have a more efficient and well run concession and other guest experiences even if the stadium is showing its age. The way things are run now, it would make it pretty challenging for a prospective donor to want to invest in a program/facility that seems to be unable to proper manage what it already has. At many levels, it has less to do with money and more with leadership/ownership.

Far too long it seems like the approach is to sit on hands and pretend it doesn't exist.

Early 4th ... down 16. Kick field goal.

Sigh.

That sums up the opener of the Albin era for me.

Just a giant sigh.

Wildly underwhelming performance in a very winnable game.

Could be a long season(s)

That sigh was probably what many thought about when Frank's retirement and his hiring were announced. It's way to early to be worried about this one result being reflective of what things will be like with Tim at the helm, but nothing about his promotion to HC from OC screams excitement and optimism for me.

"Sigh" is probably the apt word for my initial reaction.

And what would you be more likely to pay money to watch? The team that lights up the scoreboard, even if they lose 55-45, or the team that does the opposite, and loses while scoring 9 points? In general, fans buy tickets for one of two reasons: They're loyal to the school, or they want to have fun at a game. Fun sells more tickets, which keeps people in the stadium longer, and sells more concessions and souvenirs. Un-fun sees fans vacate the stands after the marching band halftime show is over to head to a party or a bar.

Sure would be great if we could get back to playing fast…like we did during that electric 2011 season, and the first half or so of the 2012 season. If memory serves (which it might very well not), the initial excuse for ditching the hurry-up part of the no-huddle was to spare our injury depleted defense, give them some extra rest. But now, it might be nice to have that change of gear, rather than letting 38 seconds run off the play clock every single down

I’ve noticed over the years that offensive lines tend to be bigger than defensive lines.

For this game:

Ohio averages: O-line: 6’4”, 323 lbs; D-line: 6’2”, 275 lbs.
Syracuse averages: O-line: 6’5”, 306 lbs; D-line: 6’3”, 280 lbs.

Granted, maybe we were worn down some but I don’t think size was the main issue. In fact, it appears Ohio actually had the size advantage overall. Maybe it was the white vs black uniforms?

I'm glad to hear that. I wasn't there, but I know what it traditionally looks like. Don't get me wrong, we've had some fun teams to watch with Rourke, but all in all, other than Tettleton and Rourke led teams, offensively Ohio teams haven't been incredibly entertaining to watch.

I think we’re gonna win four games. The offense looked as bad as it has in a long time.

Granted our offense was pretty bad but we were the better team.
