Brian, you are right. I should not have engaged with the others, my fault. I try to avoid this type of stuff but quite honestly it gets old to see one's views attacked or mocked in threads like this one. Sorry, I am just going to let it go from now on and probably post a lot less since football is a couple months away and we will see then what the MAC looks like. One final thought, I honestly think we will get a vaccine sooner than we think which means the MAC will stay intact. We probably won't have anyone being offered PJ Fleck million dollar salaries anytime soon, but I just don't see us being relegated, to use soccer parlance, to second division or I-AA status. I don't think the MAC would ever recover from something like that. You can rise in stature, but once you fall it has an impact on every other sport. Have a good night everyone!

Nobody is going to run on that but this me first, me second and the hell with you attitude may eventually kill us. Sometimes our freedoms and how so many abuse them are our own worst enemy. To invoke the Bible - Matthew 7:12 In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the prophets. Not wearing a mask in crowded spaces surely violates that tenet of decency.

Alan brings up an interesting point; the truth. When Jesus uttered those famous words he was living in a system where the Pharisees had lost their popularity because of their hypocrisy. Jesus challenged them many times while only butting heads with the Sadducces once. They Pharisees didn't much like the Sadducees and they refused to be challenged by the likes of Jesus or anyone else. The Romans certainly weren't going to challenged and they had horrendously evil ways of dealing with those who did. The point being if you don't let others state their facts, you end up paying a price in the end. Joseph Stalin thought he had the upper hand on squelching faith in the USSR when he famously asked, how many divisions does the pope have? I am sure old Uncle Joe is even more miserable in hell than one might otherwise expect knowing the Russian Orthodox Patriarch has more power and influence in Russia than any bishop or cardinal does in any western country.

The problem with the those who refuse to accept anyone's opinion but the self appointed media's hand picked stars is that eventually some of their theories are going to be proven wrong. Dr. Fauci warned this might happen and has stated he may be wrong on occasion. He has on numerous occasions stating in February that the virus was nothing to be worried about, and then in early March saying lock downs wouldn't be necessary. Senator Rand Paul caused a stir in the Senate Health care hearing the other days when he not only took on the good doctor, but brought up the Swedish model which has been mocked by much of the health care elites.

Yet Stockholm's chief Epidemiologist says the city will be at herd immunity in about one month. This means if there is a second wave, they will be by and large protected, he said. He concluded that short of a vaccine this is the only way to root out the virus, keep the vulnerable protected and the healthy out and about in public. Again, a theory but not any less valuable than permanent lock downs. You can find plenty of credible people online who say wearing a mask in a cold meat packing plant is wise, but far less wise in the summer heat where the virus has a hard time surviving for more than a couple of minutes with direct contact. The long and short of it that for whatever reason, some in the media have picked their favorites and anyone who doesn't toe their line is uncaring, unsafe and unscientific, no matter the credentials they may possess.

And the world is 6,000 years old. All things else are stupid, there is an Ark in Kentucky that if you pay that you get a Mike Pence Christmas card, with a special prayer for AIDS

Germany isn't opening schools and youth sports because sunlight acts as a disinfectant. That's a factor, but it's not why. The biggest factor is that they have rapid response testing available to every single student, every single day. Students take a swab test, the results are emailed to them, and if they fail they have to quarantine for 2 weeks.

Testing and masks have been the key component of countries who have been able to re-open faster than the US. It's truly baffling to me how poorly we've handled the testing component of this crisis. I've been looking daily for rapid response testing kits under the assumption that, inevitably, any company looking to re-open safely would need them, as has been the case in other countries. But they're not available and apparently we've decided to skip the whole "trace" part of this.

Testing? No, I like where the numbers are at now. The more we test, the more the numbers go up. I don't care if people get sick and die, I just care what Kim Jong Un puts in his Xmas card to me. If people aren't kissing my ass 24/7, or if they're asking me tough questions about issues that are beyond my intellectual capacity, I get upset and whine and cast blame like the spoiled man-baby I am.

A complete read of this article as to the "opening" of German schools shows a school system much different than ours. Much of this reopening has to do with exams. Imagine in Ohio if we did that. There would be a public outcry because our kids weren't prepared. This is a true apples to oranges comparison.

If in November you guys run on that sort of a platform (the two slogans mentioned above,) you won't win a single swing state and probably will have to settle for winning about 9 states, all centered on the West Coast and the coastal Northeast. Those two slogans might well win us Minnesota for the first time since 1972.

I love the "you guys run on that sort of platform" assumption here. Well done.

Because a couple people got angry and made it into politics and taking "sides"?

The right side, in this case, with regarding public health, is taking care of the majority of citizens -- not worrying about an election, or what one party or the other has to say.

I think I am going to keep checking this thread to see whose analysis of football I will disregard during the year. Keep posting!

I'll save you -- You don't want my analysis of college football anyway. Also, in terms of this thread in general, this is likely my last post, as I've said about all I have to say.

There are quick tests now for active infections. One, by Abbott, was reviewed in the Wall Street Journal. It gives results in only 15 minutes, but has a very high false negative rate, 25-48%. That, by the way, is the one Trump uses to determine who he will meet.

Another Quick Result test for Covid19 swabs is made in Athens, by Quidel. I don't know how accurate it is, but they have a good reputation.

As I understand it, the false negative rate is largely about user error. In other words, they're not providing a sufficient 'sample.'

It's clear progress has been made in the biotech space creating the quick tests, but access to them is extremely limited. Re-opening would be a whole lot easier if they were so plentiful that we could test every child headed into school, every employee heading into work, etc. That sort of testing volume's just not there, and it's very unclear to me that anything's even being done to accomplish it at a federal level.

If you can find me a thread where I stared a political discussion, I'll donate $100 to the cause of your choice.

Don't get me wrong, I've continued political discussions in dozens of threads. But they're always started by somebody else.

Look at this thread. The entire point of the post is to tell people to "Wear masks, not a sign of weakness, a sign you are willing to protect others!" By the third post, Cbus stopped in to share his thoughts about how it's impossible to get this virus in September. Others chimed in about 'freedom and guns', and how that mindset would impact a political election.

If I'm driving this train, I'm asleep at the wheel. Because this was a thread about the politics of wearing masks from post 1. I just added my thoughts.

As I understand, that is part of it. They shove the swab up to your brain, and sometimes dig up a jackpot rich in virus, and sometimes not. That is why these tests, for all brands, have a false negative rate of perhaps 25%. Another contributing factor is probably that the rate of shedding virus varies during the infection, being highest early on, during the asymptomatic stage, and then falling slowly as the symptoms become more severe. The fact that viral shedding is highest early is why it spreads so fast, by the way, since people who are shedding the most virus don't even realize they are sick.

In any case, if Abbot's test is really 48% false negatives, that is too high, and they need to make some changes, either in their tests or procedures, to get their accuracy in line with other tests.

The test is the very back of the skull and then from ear to ear.....or at least it felt that way when I was tested. They did a flu test swab first and I thought, hey, not to bad. Then the nurse said, well, that was the flu test, now comes the fun test. You discover parts of your anatomy you did not know you had......lol. Not real painful but just....well weird. By the way, negative for me, sadly, the reason I went in is putting me into seeing a cardiologist. I use hand sanitizer, where a mask, practice social distancing big time. Stay healthy everyone.
