Guy who I think will be on MAC radars in a couple years after working with Toledo's defense.

Most shocking part of all of this news is that Candle is making $1.1 Million a year.

I think what's most shocking is that for the first time in over a generation, a "Kehres" will not be coaching Mt. Union.

That part will be intriguing. The fact that both are stepping down tells me something might be in the water up there, but I might just be reading too much into it.

That said, for a DC, solid hire.

Interesting that Leipold moved directly from Steven's Point to Buffalo HC, while Kehres will start as the LB coach, and perhaps later as DC. Akron or BG apparently considered Kehres last year, and opted to make other choices (neither of which turned out particularly well, at least so far).

Leipold was at Whitewater and not Steven's Point.

As hard as it is to phantom, Leipold had quite a bit more success than Kehres at Whitewater. Leipold took a solid program and created a dynasty, where Kehres has maintained at best a family dynasty. Whitewater under Leipold held a good edge over Mount. Both are good coaches, and will have success at the FBS level.

Sidenote, Whitewater may have the best DIII stadium.

Mary Hardin Baylor gives them a pretty good run for their money, BTC. And could be the next power in D3.

Why doesn’t Leipold get a bigger job or at least mentioned?

Yes, I was rushed, started to post best DIII stadium not in Texas. Though I believe WW’s is quite a bit larger, and I’ve actually worked a game at Perkins Stadium.

If I'm right and he wins the MACC next year, I think he will get some interest. He very well might have won the MACC this year, had his QB and best WR not both elected to go for the draft.

Definitely Toledo and Buffalo are my internal favorites for 2020. The MAC West I think will be more balanced at the top similar to this season and could lead to some changes at the top at a couple programs if they don't perform (BSU and WMU). Otherwise, if Kehres can turn Toledo's defense into a top unit again, he will get mentioned for some gigs within the MAC.....

As to the East, royal crapshoot. Could go a lot of ways. The thing I will be watching for out of the East is the "progression" of Akron to see if they get a couple W's or not. Side subject number two will be Fiami, as they come off a MAC Championship. I feel like this is a program that still wants to axe Martin, even though he delivered a MACC, so anything less than 5 wins could spell doom for him.

I have Toledo in the middle of the MAC West, but there is so little separation in the West that I see little difference between first and last. In the East I see a lot more separation, with Buffalo clearly at the top, though the clear favorite often doesn't win the MAC. Any of four teams could possibly win the East. I see BG still well behind the top 4, and Akron well behind them.

You may be right that less than 5 wins would spell the end for Martin, but I don't see that happening. He's done an excellent job for Fiami, so I don't know why they are unhappy with him, to be honest. He consistently has them near the top in recruiting, and unfortunately Ohio no longer gets as much talent from SW Ohio as they once did.

Has done solid indeed, but remember though, the attitude prior to going on the tear down the stretch was to axe him. Buyout money was ready to go and pull the trigger and then won the MAC. So yeah, attitudes change after a conference title, but doesn't mean all is happy in Redchicken Land.

Definitely agree on the MAC West. Could be any of the top team's year out West. Keep saying EMU is going to put it together and win the division at some point, but not sure when that day is coming.

Martin needs to beat Cincinnati. He almost won a few years ago and clutched defeat from the jaws of victory by some of the worst clock management in the last two minutes in the history of college football. A win over UC would quiet a lot of the boobirds. It’s the oldest rivalry west of the Alleghenies and the Yale of West hasn’t won since 2005. This makes the natives restless!

The only team that can not win the league next season is Akron. BG will probably be one of the teams picked low in the East standings, but Akron needs some players before they can compete. The West is wide open as Toledo will be one of the teams picked to win the west.

This is the consensus opinion, which if the MAC holds true to form, means Akron will have several freshman surprises and some All-MAC JUCO transfers and will be the surprise team of the league and will challenge for the division crown. What is predictable about the MAC is that it is unpredictable.

Hence why I mention can Akron get some wins. I know they went on the trail in Ohio heavy and got a nice one out of Toledo's backyard. Will be interesting to see if Arth is as good as I think he is.
