Quick question...is anybody concerned with the lack of true big men on the roster after this year or next (if Wilson returns)? I get the game is moving to stretch 4's and away from classic big bodies. Yet, we seem short and thin (while super talented) moving forward. I know true 7'0+ length is rare, but I am surprised we aren't seeking multiple 6'9 + with some width moving forward. With the potential dynamic guards we will have, a rebounder/rim protector or two would be nice. Seems that this could allow us to compete with the elite mid-majors and lower tier big conference programs. Those consistently strong mid majors seem to always have a few big bodies that can do enough to complement the strong, veteran guards. Mid majors rely upon good guard wing recruting/development. They thrive with finding a few "big uns". Wonder if we are going to live by transfer portal to fill this need....

Bigs are highly coveted for sure. If and when Wilson returns it will be transformational to our defense. Easy layups (by the opposing team) will not be so easy. We can only hope with losing our (2) very good forwards moving on there is a "portal opportunity" in the weeds.

This is what I've been saying since 1972. Notice, the conference is starting to get some long tall bigs who can play. I do believe we'll get one--eventually. We need him next season, even with Wilson and IJ. We definitely need a rim protector. That's not our two guy's strength.

I believe if BVP and Wilson come back (Big If's on both), we are over 1 on the scholarship count. If just Wilson, then we are even. I can see one or two players choose to move on, so that is where additions would happen. Would be nice to get another JR/SR/GRAD big or two. Wish a certain big at Belmont from the Columbus area, who I believe has one year left due to Covid and a red-shirt, would be a nice/but redundant get if Wilson comes back.

No sure why people keep saying that DW3 is a "big if" coming back next year. Hasn't Boals already said he's coming back?

The Big If was both, not him.

Got it...makes sense. Thanks for clarification. I was just getting worried again that maybe DW3 wasn't coming back.

AJ Clayton is still very young. I expect him to add some weight and develop more of a low-post presence. His talent is clear.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I agree, I think he's going to be a very good player for us in seasons to come.

if dwight wilson were healthy and playing this year this team would be great. odds are we,d have been able to beat kentucky and possibly win at least one of our games against toledo. chances are we might have been in the top 25. had we been able to beat kentucky that couldve been a signature win to maybe get an ncaa at large bid. we could potentially be missin another peice either this year or probably next year. mark sears looks as if he could be an nba prospect and could possibly enter draft after next year

I'm not familiar with OhioBobcat. Is he the one that predicted last year's football team would win the MAC Championship and that the defense that finished 104th in the country would be the best unit in school history?

That's the guy. I don't remember the specifics, but his predictions were along the lines you suggest.

You're the one who predicted those things.

I was trying to make the point that we're all wrong a bunch and piling on in a forum like this just feels weird.

Not after the first few games, OhioBobcat was predicting great things even after seeing the product on the field. Your confusing pre-season optimism with realistic assessment after seeing the a game or two. I'm always an optimist before a season starts. That's just me. You also seem not to really appreciate hyperbolic sarcasm.

Nah, what I don't appreciate is when people call people and pile on. It's cowardly middle school sh*t. You've posted about this dude like 30 times, and are still doing so months later. All because of his in-season optimism, which was less extreme than your own pre-season optimism.

That one of those things registers for you as justifying your still talking about it months later in completely unrelated threads, and you don't even remember your own pre-season predictions and how hilariously wrong they turned out to be says plenty.

I think your attempt to turn a humorous remark into a debating point is quite telling also. Everybody on this board knows your MO by now. No one is a bit surprised. Carry on, Sir!

I dunno, man. I thought you mistaking your own predictions for the predictions of the dude you've been calling out by name for his bad predictions to be pretty humorous.

Weird how different your reaction is when it's directed at you. As I said: middle school sh*t.

I didn't criticize him for being an internet tough guy. I criticized him for being a hypocrite and acting like he's in middle school.

And I did do so on the internet. Well observed.

If that guy/gal felt offended by getting piled on for making ridiculous predictions about a mediocre football team, then maybe he shouldn't be here. And it wasn't just one year. He was insistent with his OHIO FOOTBALL #1 predictions for like 5 years straight. It got just as tiresome as some other posts on here in the opposite direction. It's not always sunshine, rainbows and kittens everytime you (informal you, not you personally) make a post here.

🌞🌈🐈

(sorry buddy, I couldn't help myself)

Back to the topic at hand: The one missing piece isn't a big guy. It's having enough competent guards to score and defend against teams like Toledo and Kent had this year. At least that's my opinion of the guys on the roster this year within conference play.
