Brown
James
Hadaway
Sheldon

I thought I read where this was a top 50 class? Not sure if anyone can find legit rankings. But all of these guys have the look of home run recruits. This staff is putting in serious work and none of us should be surprised.

Great find and this list doesn't mention Elmore James. I bet it's higher than #49 when it's all said and done.

IMO, take the 247 class rankings with a grain of salt because they're still including AJ Clayton, which means there are other errors within their rankings.

That said, you've got to like what you see with this class, and the overall depth of talent that as been put together by this coaching staff. So much positive momentum!

I have to stop myself from getting too excited.

Don’t know if this means much but the 2022 Ohio hoops rankings has Elmore pretty high out of all the top state recruits.

If he can heal to 100% by Jan/Feb. He might consider healing up and getting a full final year next year.

Would not mind that either if it played out that way.

Great class, I think Elmore James will have a great career here. I know the Brush point guard’s father and he he said Elmore is a a hard worker and he is very coachable.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Just looking at film and the ratings, it will be interesting to see how wing minutes turn out next year:
Ben Roderick, 6-5
Miles Brown, 6-1
Mark Sears, 6-1
Lunden McDay, 6-3
A.J. Brown 6-4
Elmore James, 6-4
Ajay Sheldon, 6-0

Big Men
Aidan Hadaway, 6-8 and skinny
A.J. Clayton, 6-9 and skinny
Colin Granger, 6-8 and bull
Sam Towns, 6-8 and skinny
IJ Ezuma, 6-8 and bull

I trust Boals and of course, guards win it for you in March! Where will those minutes go to though?

I guess it depends on what your version of skinny is, but I've seen AJ Clayton, and I don't view him as "skinny" right now. Give him a year of the offseason program and I think he'll be even less "skinny".

Speaking only for myself, I don't care how big our "bigs" are as long as they can play. I know it's on a different talent level, but in case anyone forgot, Villanova won the National Championship twice playing primarily three guards, and two 3's or a stretch 4. They had only one guy that really played a lot that was taller than 6-7. Point is, the obsession about needing really big guys seems strange to me, when there are several guys 6'7" to 6'8" that can play on this roster, and when Ohio has half a dozen guards/wings that either are, or look to be, very talented.

Funny...when I first saw AJ my first thought was that he wasn't as skinny as I thought he was going to be for a 17 year old. I agree that he has a frame that is going to build muscle and we'll see more of it moving forward next year and beyond.

I know you've stayed consistent about your big man philosophy. I'm actually starting to come around on this. Obviously, we might see how missing a guy like DW3 will hurt against teams like Kentucky, but in the long run, this program can succeed in this conference without obsessing having a 6-9 guy in the paint playing 30+ minutes every game for Ohio.

With DW3 in the post and JP on point it seemed like we ran a screen/roll on nearly every possession. This year it’s all about “paint touches” then dish or finish at the rim. I love how he uses Sears “water bug style” to drive the offense. Very different approach from last year. But it’s only been 3 games. This team might give Boals options we haven’t even seen, yet. This is going to be fun to watch. The guys are playing so well together.

Thanks for coming around to The Dark Side. 😂😂😂

Don't get me wrong, having a guy like Wilson, or Tony Campbell is a great thing to have. I just don't think the way college basketball is played that it's a necessity to have a team full of 6'10" guys to be competitive against most D1 teams. Yes, it'll potentially create defensive matchup issues in some cases, but it also creates major issues when the opponents are facing Ohio. Every team that has bigs that can't move well is going to have a problem defending Carter and Vander Plas, and even Clayton when he's on the floor.

I'm intrigued by the different philosophies when it comes to valuing height in basketball, even at the highest level of the NBA. For example, the Cavs have been starting a frontline of 6-10 (Jarrett Allen), 6-11 (Lauri Markkanen) and 6-11 (Evan Mobley, frontrunner for ROY). The Bulls, on the other hand, have been starting 4 guards in the 6-5 to 6-6 range - DeRozan, Ball, Caruso and LaVine - alongside a 6-11 center.

The Cavs and Bulls, starting 2 different extreme lineups, have been perhaps the most improved teams so far this year.

It’s interesting. As a Bulls fan I couldn’t wait to see Markkanen go. And yet he is thriving in the Cavs’ offense. The Bulls could use a rim protector - losing Williams for the season looms large. In their 4 losses they’ve struggled against dominant big men. Glad to see the Cavs and Markkanen doing so well, though.

Do you guys really think AJ is a “Big”? He’s more of a skilled forward who will primarily play facing the basket, but will be able to defend inside and out.

Agree with this and certainly don't view Clayton as a "big". I'm honestly amazed that he's contributing as a true frosh and will continue to contribute this year. I really thought he was an automatic redshirt coming into the season. The guy is long and athletic with unlimited upside.

In the sense that he's roughly 6'8" and what, 220-225, I think of him as a big. But in terms of his game, I hear that point of view. I haven't seen enough to say he's not a post player at all, so we'll have to wait and see.

Hey OU Country, Mr. Bigs here. As you know, I've been beating the "height and length" drum for more decades than I can even remember. But you brought up an interesting point in shining the light on Villanova, which gives me an opportunity to future clarify my obsession with bigs. Nova is never particular tall. But they're athletic, and here's the key--they have one or two front-courters who play above the rim. Remember our games against Nova and Creighton? I do believe we got hurt by both teams due to that factor, an above-the-rim playing forward, their point guards notwithstanding.

I'm clamoring for a rim-protecting big because our forwards don't play above the rim. That's no slight on them; that's just who they are. The last one we had who had a huge impact that way, who had that type of explosion and was an all-MAC player, probably was Gary Trent, right? Maybe Brandon Hunter? Jon Smith?

I just think it's nearly impossible to get to the Big Dance's Final 8 without a frontcourt baller like that. Because the teams we face as we go deeper into that journey are gonna have at least one uber-athletic above-the-rim playing forward or a post player with length who demands a double-team. Or worse yet, both!!!
