According to an article in The Post Jenny Hall Jones is leaving.

The article says she's going to be the Vice President for Student Affairs at Grand Valley State.

Seems like a step down.

Wonder if O.U. wasn't going to take away her "interim" tag as VP of Student Affairs ?

I have no opinion one way or the other on Jones but curious as to why this is a good thing?

Ask any member of the 110 who got put through the JHJ inquisition.

Is it the pause of activities that upsets folks?

A school hears that someone in an organization is acting inappropriately and then schedules some meetings later that week or some other time to interview members and figure out what’s going on, if anything. But the night the school first heard about it, what they heard about happens again. That’s a litigators dream, no? “You knew and didn’t take immediate action?!?!?”

The play book should be pretty clear by now and not a surprise. Pause, review, take action (train, warn, discipline). No?

Also, word on campus is Hall-Jones was offered the permanent gig at OU.

She already had a permanent "gig".
She's been with O.U. for 25 years.

The question is whether O.U. was going to remove the "interim" tag as VP of Student Affairs or if she was going to have to go back to Dean of Students.

Given the fact that she's going to Grand Valley State to be the VP of Student Affairs, it would seem O.U. wasn't going to remove the interim tag.

Ohio69 said rumor is she was offered "the permanent gig" at OU. That clearly refers to the job we're all talking about and is in response to your speculation otherwise.

Not just my speculation.

Several people have emailed me saying the same thing.

JHJ was at O.U. for 25 years.

She was the "Interim" VP for Student Affairs.

If she was offered the VP position, but didn't want it, she could have just gone back to Dean of Students.

The fact that she is leaving to take the same position at Grand Valley State, which seems to be a step down and requires relocating seems bit unusual.

I heard from someone on the search committee that Hall-Jones was offered the OU job permanently and she declined. After she declined, the search was “failed.”

That's called "confirmation bias." After a year and change of you calling for Jenny Hall Jones' resignation, you've decided that the only way she could possibly leave Ohio University is that if you were secretly right all along.

Here's what's much more likely: after 25 years working here, she felt insulted by the fact that she had to interview for the job, and that coupled with a year and change of weirdo alums calling her actions "an embarrassment", calling for her to resign, and accusing the university of anti-fraternity conspiracies she decided to move on. I suspect it's been a stressful couple of years; a student was hazed to death, and there were countless accusations and investigations since. There are plenty of innocuous reasons why she may prefer to move on, even if offered the job.

I am sure she’s an avid reader of these boards.

I said "weirdo alums" -- there aren't any of those on this board.

My thought was that this board was representative of the alumni response. I remember some Post article at homecoming that year that quoted someone saying they'd never donate another dollar because of the investigation. I would assume that feeling made it's way to her.

Not a fan of JHJ but I'm skeptical the replacement will be any better. The position "Dean of Students" should be eliminated and we should create a new role that actually cares about and prioritizes the well-being of students. As the role exists currently, it's a huge waste of money.

Why do folks think the current leadership and staff in student affairs don’t prioritize the well being of students? I’m genuinely curious

I sort of asked this question and was told to ask the members of the 110

Those answers are on the board. Just take some time and go back.

I can summarize for you, Ohio69.

Some people here felt that suspending activities prior to investigation was unfair, and have concluded that doing so indicates a Dean's office that cares less about student well-being than risk mitigation.

You can read all about it in two different threads. I forget what they're called or when they're from, but if you search keywords like "ACLU", "Civil Liberties", "I feel sorry for your children", "investigate the investigators", "disgrace to the university", and "anti frat conspiracy" they'll pop up.

It is almost certainly not worth your time to do so.

There's an article in today's (1/14/22) The Post about the "Cease and Desist " order issued against the Singing Men of Ohio being lifted.

Alan Swank posted about the Order being lifted on 12/4/21.

According to the article, the order was issued on 11/29/21,then lifted on 12/2/21.

At the time ,I didn't see O.U. issuing a press release.

Don't know if they ever did.

The Post also didn't mention it until today.

At least The Post article provides some details on the whole matter.

I certainly hope there's an anti-frat conspiracy.
