"it's legal to drive a car but it's safer not to do it"
"it's legal to drink soda but it's safer not do do it"
"it's legal to use tobacco but it's safer not to do it"

The restaurant industry has always been one of the most regulated (as it should be) in our entire economy. Subject to surprise inspection at any time by health departments for safety and cleanliness. Is the goal to totally destroy the industry? Restaurant & lodging industry lost 600,000 jobs in the past 2 months.

Throughout this thread -- and the other 4 threads you've discussed Covid measures -- you keep saying things like "it's not illegal (yet) to have a different opinion" and "I only ask that you accept that others have opinions that differ."

And the thing is, nobody is trying to silence you. But you keep pointing out opinions that you disagree with, and basically stating that they shouldn't be stating their opinion.

I mean, maybe I'm misreading this, but it seems like you're implying that because CNN's opinion on indoor dining during Covid is harmful to the restaurant industry, they shouldn't share it. It's weird, you keep insisting that others should be accepting of your opinion, and then being the least accepting person here about opinions you disagree with.

CNN published this: (https://www.cnn.com/2012/05/18/health/jampolis-dangers-dr... ) Should they not publish their opinion on the health dangers of Soda because the Soda industry employs people?

CNN published this: (https://www.cnn.com/2014/01/23/living/teens-driving-texti... ) Should they not have because of the auto industry?

CNN published this: (https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/06/health/smoking-mental-illn... ) Should they not have because the tobacco industry employed people?

What's the threat threshold that makes that opinion worth publishing? I get you disagree about the danger posed by Covid, but the bottom line is millions of Americans are concerned about it, and are looking for resources about the dangers.

Personally, I'm not super into the idea of censoring a free press because you disagree about how risky it is to eat dinner during Covid. But I guess you're cool with it because you have a different opinion.

I haven't been reading this entire thread, but I can respond to your question. No, it does not bother me. I've worked with the Ohio legislature and if it were left to them, nothing would get done. Unless it's an issue that the House and Senate leadership want to address, the sausage-making process takes forever. There would have to be legislation introduced in both houses, then the bills would be assigned to a committee, and there would three or four hearings, and several rounds of rewriting to respond to testimony and lobbying from various interests, then a committee vote and a floor vote, and maybe a conference committee and another floor vote, before anything would reach the governor's desk. This would likely take months. Meanwhile, more Ohioans would be getting sick and dying. But the leadership in neither chamber seems to have any desire to address the pandemic head-on. You can easily see why -- just look at the number of members of both chambers who don't wear masks, who don't take the pandemic seriously and who want to limit the power of the governor and the health director to issue emergency orders. If Gov. DeWine and Dr. Acton had not jumped in when they did and made some tough decisions, there would thousands more sick and dead from covid in Ohio than we currently have.

You have pretty well nailed it. These folks calling for action by "represntaives of the people" are absolutely clueless. The people that they reference are simply trying to maximize an 8 year gig before they jump to the other chamber.

I support your freedom to do those things 100%. I only ask you to consider that some may not share your opinion. It is not unlawful (yet) to have a differing opinion on things.

I guess that may be a big difference between many of us. Many of us think we were a better county when those actions were frowned upon.

I don't remember marching on the Capitol or being involved in a plot to kidnap anyone.

but according to you - 100% support folks doing those things.

Are you insane or do you just have trouble reading? Where did I say 100% support folks doing those things?

I clearly meant I support your freedom to do those things 100% (like you wearing a mask, etc.). Any idiot who can read would understand that.

So now we equate the decision to wear a mask with plotting to kidnap a governor. Yea, those are interchangeable....100%

It's pretty clear to me that ohiocatfan1 was saying that he 100% supports my right to do these things:

" I just wear a mask. Why? Because it's super easy to do, I have no reason not to, and it's the decent thing to do. I do it for the exact same reason I give up my seat to the elderly on the subway, or hold the door open for people. Common courtesy.

I mean, I guess instead, I could march on the capital, plot to kidnap the Governor of Michigan or whatever, and stamp my feet so everybody knows how smart I am. But I'd rather just participate in society like an adult and do all the very tiny, easy things I can do to try and put Covid behind us. Even if their efficacy is questionable."

So, he's just asking that I consider that some people don't want to extend common courtesies and participate in society like adults. And I've not only considered that, but seen it very clearly since March of 2020.
