Amazing how mediocre the MAC is this year. None of the top teams look like anything special. The parity of the league is scary. The tournament should be wide open. Ohio has competed better in recent games to climb into contention for a first round home game. Bobcats got healthy and the young players getting better. 7-9 in conference with two road games left. Not a bad first year from Boals. This year is a success already with the development of the sophomore and freshmen players. This year could have been real ugly, but this team overcame injuries, youth and battled back into the middle of the pack of the MAC late in the season. The close losses vs BGSU, Akron, @Buffalo showed this team can compete. The turnovers have come down and the free throw shooting improving. This team is well coached and things are better now than they were a year ago.

By your metrics the entire NCAA is "mediocre this year"

Certainly no space or time here to argue this but Kenpom has been talking about parity rather than mediocrity.

I read an interesting blurb about the 2020 NBA draft and how the majority of the top prospects will NOT appear in the NCAA tourney this year. The Dayton forward might be about the only top prospect that we'll see on the big stage this month. The big guy from Memphis left school. The SG from Georgia is on a bad team. Cole Anthony at UNC might be in the NIT. The Euro guys, obviously, won't be in the tourney. It's a weird year.

There is no scenario where we can get the 4 or 5 seeds. The only scenario where we get the 6 is if we win out, Kent loses out, and Toledo loses one game.

Wouldn't Cole Anthony and UNC have to get to .500 to make it to the NIT? Doubt that happens as the Heels are 5 games below now as time is slipping away for possible wins.

Hence why I said "might" in reference to their NIT chances.

So, I think the only scenario where we are on the road is if we lose to Miami, WMU beats Central, and Toledo beats EMU. I think the latter two are likely to happen, so we have to take care of business against Miami. Should EMU instead beat Toledo, there would be a 4 way tie at 7-11. Ohio and Toledo come out the better two in that group with Western falling to the 10 seed. We would host EMU in that scenario.

Pretty sure Central is locked into a road game. The bottom sure fell out there.

Yep. WMU split with EMU and was swept by Toledo, so we get the #8 spot in any tie scenario except a 2-way tie with WMU. Just beat Fiami.

We will get by.
We will get by.

So right now we are tied with Toledo, W-L.
What happens if we both end up with the same record after Friday? Who gets the home game?
Is there a tie beaker? and since Toledo beat us, they win the tie breaker and the home court?

The only way we get in a tie with only Toledo is if we both win on Friday. In that scenario, Toledo will be seeded ahead of Ohio due to head to head result, BUT we would both be playing home games. If we both lose, there will be a four way tie at 7-11, because Toledo losing means EMU won, and one of CMU or WMU will also pull into 7-11.

We don't want to get in a tie with only WMU. Neither team beat Akron or BG, and they have a better record than us against the NIU/Ball State/Buffalo group.

Bottom line, if we can't beat Miami, we need Toledo or Western to lose to still get the home game.

I'm trying to be positive about Miami, but the Redhawks are playing very good ball right now. Not the same team that scored two points in 18 minutes against us the first time. And who knows the status of BVP and Dartis. That ankle of BVP probably was the size of a softball today. Have to find a way to win Friday.

While I do think this team is capable of beating anyone, the realistic side of me sees the minutes Preston is logging and thinks it's not possible to do that every day in Cleveland. I don't think a kid that important could log three consecutive 40 minute games in 3 days.

If they can somehow win the first round game and get to Cleveland....the season in my opinion will be viewed as a big success in Boals first year. If it doesn't happen, we can all see the building blocks that the program is trending in right direction. But getting to Cleveland makes the off-season a hell of a lot better.

Think about this: how many "bad" games did Ohio play all year? I'm throwing out the losses to Power opponents Nova, Baylor, Utah and Purdue, because they looked good for stretches in those games and were competitive. They were just outplayed and out-athleted.

I guess you could say the Campbell home game or the Kent game at the MAC Center. Maybe the Ball State and NIU back to backs on the road. Other than that? This schedule was full of games that could have swung either way.

That to me, is the most impressive thing about this season. There wasn't really any stinkers that were disgusting to watch. We haven't seen that in a while. Even Groce and Christian teams had some really ugly games...

Any word on BVP's ankle? He could hardly move when he came back in the game last night.

This has me encouraged for the future. From a fan's perspective it seems like Coach is building strong character traits into the players that will pay off with time and experience.

The Akron loss was tough to swallow at first but I never expected them to be there at the end going in. I had feared a similar result to the Groce/Christian type games you described above (when the Cats were pretty much hammered from the opening tip-and those were not in small quantity under both those coaches).

Making it to Cleveland will be icing on the cake and I would love to see what this team could do playing with house money.

We just need a decent win against Miami, not even a resounding one to cause some trepidation in Cleveland. A young squad who is still learning and getting their sea legs, all the while having double digit leads on the road against BG and Akron is bound to cause some upset stomachs among our opponents should we make it to Cleveland.

So, are you saying, "the team that nobody wants to face in March?' ;-)

I'll do half of it. We beat Miami and Toledo wins, we get the 8th seed and a home game.

We beat Miami and Toledo loses, we get the 7th seed and a home game.

We beat Miami and - worst we can get is #8, so guaranteed home game. If we win and Toledo loses - we get #7.

If we lose, BEST we can get is #8 since we lose the tie-breaker with Toledo. Then we have to play wait to see results of CMU-WMU.

If it's a two-way tie, we win tie-breaker and still get #8 against CMU and EMU, so hope for them to win.

We lose tie-breaker with WMU so if we lose and they win, we would drop to #9 regardless of EMU-Toledo game.

With Western on the way to a loss, it appears we will get that home game regardless of what happens in this next minute.

Yes! If Dartis & BVP are healthy and we advance to Cleveland, no one will want to play us no matter the seed!
