I think they call it tampering or something like that. Forgive me if I’m not pulling for the Niners.

My guess is that he intended to stay, but something changed that caused him to change his mind. Was it a new coach? A change in scheme? A change in procedures? I have no way to know, but any time you have a coaching change, that can happen. I'm certainly not implying that there is anything wrong with the new coaches, only that they may do some things differently. When they bring in new players, I'm sure it will all work out.

This is not just an Ohio problem. With the portal, it is the new norm. Look at other schools that had significant changes to their coaching staff, and you'll find the same thing. All things considered, Ohio is far, far lower in turnover than most schools with the same amount of change to the coaching staff. It will all work out, in the end, and presuming that there aren't too many more coaching changes after this year, next year should be better.

What changed? Are you being facetious that you don't know? He got contacted by big schools who dangled money. Plain and simple. It wasn't scheme. It wasn't coaching. Unless he ends up at Charlotte, it is all about money. That's why we have to enjoy teams and players from year to year and that's it. No more becoming truly engaged with OUr guys. I had a buddy congratulate me on Kurtis Rourke being drafted and I said, "Why are you congratulating me? I'm not an Indiana fan." I am happy for Kurtis but he left for money. It obviously wasn't to get noticed by the NFL because we see how that worked. Shay most likely had tepid offers after the season and decided to be bold and declare he was running it back. Then as the bigger schools went through early portal season and had misses, they reached out to him.

Based on posts above, he had an offer from Penn State, so yes, he had some people offer him who potentially offered him $, yet, apparently he is going to Charlotte, who most likely has no more NIL to spend than Ohio.

Say what you want about NIL and all the money that was dangled in front of Shay Taylor but his commitment post is rather telling.

"No one else I'd rather play for"

Speaks to the relationships with Faanes and Albin. Sure money is great but it's also temporary.

I'll take a different approach to Rourke. He was in Athens for five seasons, apparently earned multiple degrees, has enough of an affinity to make an appearance at the spring game, and won a MAC Offensive POTY. And while it would be noble to finish where it started, what was there left to prove at Ohio? He had a better record as a starter at IU than in any season at Ohio. His completion percentage was better at IU than in any season at Ohio, and his yards per attempt were at their highest at IU. I think absolutely he raised his stock at Indiana.

What makes me mad is aside from us, everyone views him as from Indiana instead of Ohio even though we had him for five seasons to their one. How much or how little Ohio gets credit for his success is partly in Kurtis' control and could change how I feel about him. But I don't view him as using Ohio as a stepping stone. Some kids have, or they bolt if the situation isn't perfect, or they say they're returning only to leave a few months later. Those guys can kick rocks.

My take is similar to yours. He put in his time in Athens, and put in the effort. Had it not been for a knee injury, he'd have won a MACC, in my opinion. I don't blame him for his move to Indiana, which was probably the best thing he could have done for his career.

It seems to me that, in granting NIL money to a player, they can/should sign binding contract that a player agrees to play for a set minimum period of time in exchange for the NIL money, and which includes a liquidated damages clause if the player leaves prematurely. That's similar to what coaching contracts look like; why can't the same thing be done with players?

If an employment contract isn’t binding to a coach, how do you expect a non-employment contract to be binding for a player?

It should as binding on a player as it is on a coach. It would have to be reasonable in order to be enforceable. No contract would be enforceable that requires them to stay, but a contract which specifies a reasonable liquidated damage that must be paid in the event of an early departure should be fine. Coaches pay those all the time, or rather, the school that hires the coach pays them.

Looks like we just signed Air Force transfer safety Caleb Chamberlin. Looks like he only had a couple FCS offers other than us. Looks like he was a freshman last year so didn’t get any playing time but he was an all state safety from Florida in high school. Interesting addition with 4 years of eligibility.

Looks like we have another commit.

Andres Dewerk OL from App State. Spent time at USC as well. He's a big boy 6'7, 340lbs

It appears there will be more commits soon based on the Twitter chatter from some of the coaches.

Yeah coming fast and furious.

LBer Makel Williams out of Fort Hays had 77 tackles last year.

A definite area of need and one more portal LBer would be nice.

We have offered some DL guys so let’s get a few interior DL guys as well.

The Bobcats lost 14-15 good players to power four teams in 2024. It is the new normal. They ended up winning 11 football games in 2024. Did any of you ever consider that possibly these players like Shay Taylor and K Schmitz wanted to play for the previous LB coach/CoDC in Charlotte? It happens all the time. And yes they probaly got offered more cash to go somewhere else. However, it could be they really want to play for a coach they feel comfortable with.

Man, THIS is my kinda guy.

An absolute machine and has already played a ton of games. He's small, Blake Leake-ish, but highly consistent, and highly productive. All-MIAA selection his 3 years at FH.

4 years in JUCO + D2... I think that makes him an FBS freshman? (lol) Ol' boy has started 40+ games and could have four years remaining.

21, Blinn College: 77 tackles, 4 sacks
22, Fort Hays: 86 tackles
23, Fort Hays: 75 tackles, 3 int
24, Fort Hays: 88 tackles

Weatherspoon was one of our best linemen by year's end and you throw in experienced dudes in Trent Allen along with Waite from Shippensburg and Cisse from Idaho being in our system a year. I think with our stable of skill guys and Parker's running ability our offense can be solid yet again. Depends on what Sieh we get.

Staff has done a great job in the portal so far. OL was a position of concern but with the latest additions I'm feeling pretty good.

Of course things can change but the OL may look something like this...

RT - Rhodes / Jones
RG - Allen / Waite / Johnson
C - Wright / Parson
LG - Cisse
LT - Weatherspoon / Dewerk
