Been a couple years since I've been back. North End looks like my kind of spot!

I love this angle. The older I get, the more than is a consideration when visiting Athens establishments. Fortunately, the bathrooms in general, in my opinion anyway, have experienced a significant upgrade in recent years.

Does the CI still use the setpiece from "Hostel" for a bathroom?

As a former employee who had to work some solo happy hour shifts that gave me flashbacks.

Anyways there have been some significant remodels in the last 5 years....bathrooms moved to the back and completely new. Most recently the awning/storage over the bar is gone and 4 big screen TVs are now up. It looks great now and much more crowd friendly with the bathrooms in the back.

I didn't go in but I heard and peaked through the windows of Pawpurrs that there was a significant remodel there too. Not sure if it was more than cosmetic though.

My tickets and parking passes arrived today. The envelope was postmarked August 25. "Only" 5 days from Athens to North Canton.

Seems to be a common and unfortunate trend these days. I send stuff to family in the Carolina low country often. A few years ago, on my dad's birthday, we sent three cards (a landmark B-day) that all hit the mailbox at the same time. They all three arrived at different times, one of them arriving roughly ten days after it was sent, and the earliest about 3 days.

The current head of the Postal Service WANTS to slow down delivery. Claims it's to save money; the fact that he owns tons of stock in Fed Ex is purely coincidence. Last December I made the mistake of mailing our sewer bill a week before it was due. It arrived three weeks late. And that was to Mt. Vernon, just 33 miles from here.

If memory serves, they frequently have a food truck. Can't be sure what they'd have tomorrow, but you could try calling them to find out. (Will they actually answer the phone? Anyone's guess).

Yes, excellent food and a great outdoor location. Full kitchen inside establishment, not a food truck.

I confirm - Great food made on premises not from a truck. Nice outdoor dining/drinking under large tented area also. All ordering by QR code on phone - and it works great. Huge selection of craft beers.

Here is my after the game report on my experience setting up a tailgate. If you are a cash payer on the day of the game this should help some. I had a group of about 40 fans. We were all without permits as visitors.

We set up at Lot 90 next to Morton Hall. It said it was a $5 lot according to Ohio U. on gameday. The lot was about half full 6-7 hours before the 7pm kickoff.

Pros: great location, easy walking to Gate 3. We befriended a few Ohio students with food and water. Indoor bathroom actually at the south end of Morton Hall for men. Across the street there was a bathroom for anyone at Nelson Commons by going up the ramp. Another nice feature was about two blocks north was Jefferson Marketplace. We actually picked up two bags of ice. Also, they have three really nice unisex bathrooms.
https://www.ohio.edu/food/jefferson-marketplace

Cons: Apparently you are not supposed to tailgate there with alcohol. About 75 mins before kickoff a cop shows up and informs us no alcohol is allowed here. He was cool as he saw we were visitors and not making issues. He said we were okay to park in Lot 90 on gameday but not supposed to have alcohol.

More cons: no porta-potties are set up anywhere. No attendants to take cash ever showed up. While getting free parking is a pro, wondering if you'll get a ticket or towed is a con. No garbage facilities close by. We carried our trash to dumpsters at the south end of Nelson Commons.

Finally, I'm glad I didn't set up at the $10 golf and tennis center lot. It was marked full and it was (golfers and band day?). The clubhouse was also closed for customers. Once again, why does Ohio U. list all these lots? When you can't tailgate at them, you don't set up porta-potties, you don't have them staffed?

As a game day cash payer who wants to tailgate it is very confusing. It will be chaos when WV and Cincy fans show up in droves in a few years. OHIO U. you better have a better plan then.

Hopefully a local fan has some better info to share in the interim.

So technically, to my knowledge, you're not allowed to have alcohol at any tailgates in any of the game day parking lots (excepting within some of the tents the university sets up for ticketed/controlled access pregame events). You can tailgate anywhere, but the university (could be the city, could be the state for all I know) don't want you doing so with alcohol. The work around that we've always employed, and has always worked for us, have been solo cups. I'm sure passing law enforcement knows what is in the solo cups, but they've always taken a "See no evil/hear no evil/speak no evil" approach

The cop did mention some sort of tailgate zone...but if it is what I think it is, it is a donor area.

This doesn't help visiting fans or Ohio fans who don't have season passes.

If I had to recommend anyone coming to Ohio as a visitor this year...go ahead and look at Morton Hall Parking Lot first if you are coming with a rather small group (under 30). Just keep the alcohol low key and you should be okay. There are a few grassy areas under trees that work nicely.

There's a general "no alcohol" policy on all state facilities in Ohio. My former office couldn't have alcohol at functions held in the office -- even though it rented space in a private office building -- because it's a state facility. Back in the day, I think the only place on campus that served alcohol, and it might've been just beer, was the old Baker Center.

Except the University has the ability to create an alcohol zone or permit wherever it would like on it's own property.

This is true. The medical school took advantage of this fact for receptions of various types over the years.
