. . . not sure I understand this. The MAC is hot? The situation we find the country in is hot? And why do you consider it hot?

If the MAC could expand and add those teams, that would be the time to revamp Peden, add that second deck and get our capacity up to 35k, which would generate much more revenue

While I would love to see the capacity increase, I fail to see how we would generate more revenue when we don’t sell out now with the current configuration.

What makes you think those schools would be interested? My guess is there will be no expansion. The MAC has been really conservative about that over the past 10 years.

You're probably right that the MAC will stand pat. It would likely take an existing program being forced to drop football to see any action towards attracting new members.

I also wonder how big of a sales pitch it is to recruits that they get to play most of their games in warmer climates with C-USA essentially being a Southern league. All but 3 teams are in a SEC state. Would you rather play a November road game in Boca Raton or Buffalo?

The one thing that comes to my mind would be a reduction in travel costs. However, it seems like most C-USA sports are played in the East and West Divisions so it would likely not be a major difference?

I was kind of surprised Akron had more than the required number of men's sports in the first place in order to eliminate programs. I believe now only Ball State, Kent State, Northern Illinois and Miami have more than the six required men's programs to be Division I. Miami has eight and the other three have seven.

You need 6 sports if you have at least 8 women’s sports or 7 and 7. But hey, what would I know about the NCAA. All MAC schools are compliant in membership status.

Right, I was just saying Ohio and many other MAC schools already had cut to the minimum. I was surprised that is something Akron hadn't already done beforenow.

They did, then they brought baseball back.

Central Michigan has cut men's track and field. This puts them at five men's sports, one below the minimum requirement to remain in Division I. Their AD to comment later today.

Where do you count 5?

Football
Cross Country
Golf
Baseball
Basketball
Wrestling

That is 6 men’s sports, 10 women’s sports, and 16 total.

Again people, make educated and researched comments please.

I'm just going off this tweet from a journalist in Michigan.

EDIT: They only have women's golf.

My sources tell me Central/Eastern/Western will merge to create Directional Michigan United. The mascot will basically be a winged centaur (Chippewa Warrior top/Bronco bottom/Eagle Wings)

Honestly they could be a powerhouse. I'm kinda scared.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Of course they’ll be at disadvantage, the merged university being suddenly relocated to St. John’s Michigan, population 8,000, athletic (and university!) facilities approximately nil. St. John’s being the geographic center of Kalamazoo, Mt. Pleasant, and Yipsi, as determined by a highly scientific and precise glance at Google Maps

Their website does not indicate that they have men's golf, only women's golf. They will have only five men's sports, and this Detroit Free Press article says they are in jeopardy of losing their FBS status. They hope to get a waiver for period of time before returning to full compliance.

Hmmm, women’s golf only. Interesting. Oh well, choice they make.

Get on high horse.
Tell people to make educated and researched comments.
Make false and poorly researched comment on same comment.
Fall off high horse.

Flying Centaur would be pretty awesome.

If there were ever to be an Akron/Kent merger I would really want them to be called the Golden Kangaroos.

If there were a BG-Toledo merger, the fighting '75ers?

Maybe BG-Toledo would be the Super Duper Rockets?

The NCAA granted Central Michigan's waiver request for two years to remain Division I despite having only five men's sports.

https://www.mlive.com/sports/2020/06/central-michigan-rec...

Wright State also dropped below the requirement and has requested a waiver.

I'm sure that there will be many more to follow, especially for Group of 6 programs.

Was happy to hear about BG's ability to bring back their baseball program. Props to alumni and friends who came to their aid.

If the MAC could expand and add those teams, that would be the time to revamp Peden, add that second deck and get our capacity up to 35k, which would generate much more revenue

While I would love to see the capacity increase, I fail to see how we would generate more revenue when we don’t sell out now with the current configuration.

I agree, there isn't a "need" to increase the capacity of Peden. In fact, it is the perfect capacity as is. Ohio doesn't need another Convo problem (where you get a decent crowd and it still looks and feels empty and cavernous). When you get 15,000+ in Peden, it has a good feel. And with a capacity of 24,000, it's obtainable to sell out. Having a 30,000+ capacity would not only be completely unnecessary, but Ohio would be putting money into a wasted cause. Peden is a college football gem. I'd much rather see money go into making necessary improvements as needed than simply adding a bunch more seats that will sit empty 95% of the time. That would be a complete waste all the way around.

Definatie sarcasm, that is traced back years when the theme of the board from many was build a 2nd deck and expand.
