I have my own business.

I review potential employee resumes all the time.

Just like this hire, everyone looks good on paper.

Nothing against Ms. Cromer, but, personally,I would have preferred Grooms.

But I won't pass judgement till I see how she is at the job.

Just hope she doesn't say "athletics is the front door . . ." as part of
of her 8/16/19 Press Conference. :-)

Well, I’m sure those involved actually took the time to do more than just read resumes, and probably did like real job search stuff (I know from your post you’ll find this hard to believe), but I bet the committee actually talked with Ms Cromer, and probably more than one and I bet maybe even in person. I wouldn’t even be shocked if they did such a through job like you would have and even check listed and unlisted references.

I disagree with your third point - everyone does not look good on paper. Much depends on if the stated qualifications match the job description and requirements. Not having seen the original job posting but having a very strong opinion on what the department needs, her resume of stated accomphishments is very deep and strong. Now if I get an email next year informing me that I will be recieving (sic) my football tickets very soon, then I might very well be concerned.

I'm very pleased at first blush. She's got outstanding and diverse experience. I hope it translates to performance. She's done most of her work with Power Five schools so it'll be interesting to see how she manages the finances and unique challenges of the Group of Five.

If you read my initial post,it was merely a tongue in cheek response to the comment about her having an impressive resume.

O.U.'s announcements of the A.D. Finalists said they had been invited for
on campus interviews,so your comment about talking to Ms.Cromer is kind of moot.
Whether they were having more then one interview,O.U.'s announcements didn't
say.

As far as how thorough my interview process is,my company does projects
at a number of "secure" facilities.
You don't want to know what we have to go through to hire someone (pretty much anyone we hire) who could be possibly be involved with a project at any of those sites.

I should have been more specific.

We advertise primarily on Indeed,Monster etc.

Even with screening tools,we get in a lot of resumes from people who don't even seem to know what the job is.

So my office manager goes through every resume and only gives me the ones that appear qualified.

So every resume I get to review looks good on paper.

Me too Shabamon. I like the hire. I never understood the fascination with Grooms other than he is a former Ohio assistant coach. If he had no connection at all with Ohio would he have made it as far he had?

I have always been curious about this kind of opening and the process involved. I wood be curious to find out the following, even though I doubt we will ever know;

1) What were the names of the other prospects?
2) Was Julie the 1st choice?
3) If Julie was not the 1st choice then who was? Why did they pass on the offer?
4) What was her total compensation @ Arkansas vs Ohio?
5) Compare Julie's compensation to Schaus's.
6) Is Ohio giving her husband a position as well?

After reading Arkley's article today I am curious and excited about all the positive talk around the football program.

Wood you now?

1) If you branched out a bit, you'd see that the answers are rooted right on the Ohio website. https://www.ohio.edu/compass/stories/19-20/08/athletics-d...

2. She's in our palm now, so why worry about it?

3. Leaf that worry alone. I think you're barking up the wrong tree here. She's at the elm now.

4. and 5. Why are you pining for this knowledge? They're both public schools, so give some search engines aspen and you'll find it.

6. If he's qualified for a role, fir sure. You bet your ash that I'm oak-a with it.

Just listened to the new AD introduction online.
She said all the right things.
I am disappointed that there was not other press present to ask questions other then the Messenger and the OU media. I am personally surprised that the Dispatch could not send a reporter down for this very important announcement.
She did state that she will announce her 100 plan on 8/31. This plan will aid us in understanding where her priorities are.

Having monitored the demise of The Dispatch, I'm not surprised no one was there. I was surprised we didn't have questions from WOUB and The Post. I'm sure she was surprised as well.

She is very articulate. I was impressed.

I think you misunderstood her "100 plan." I heard it at the press conference and just listened to it again and it appears what she was talking about was a 100 day plan for gathering information and meeting with various constituencies.

+1

Yes, and I was very impressed with that plan. Her predecessor probably spent a total of half a day during his entire tenure listening to any constituency beyond Cutler Hall.

I wonder why she changed her name between Arkansas, where she was Julie Cromer Peoples, and here, where she is Julie Cromer. At first I thought that she might have gotten divorced, but her husband was at the press conference. It's not a big deal in the greater scheme of things, but I'm curious.

Here's a story from yesterday from an Arkansas paper, which refers to her as Cromer Peoples (no hyphen): https://tinyurl.com/y348nqfa

Her predecessor was more than willing to listen to ideas. He just didn't take any of those ideas seriously.

In my mind listening with your ears closed, is not really listening. And, in many cases, he didn't even want to appear to be listening.

Kind of off topic, but just to add about the demise of the Dispatch. When I left WOUB for a position in DC in Jan.'83, every major daily paper in the state and the AP had a Washington bureau, some with 2 or 3 reporters. At the close of business today, the Dispatch will lose its last DC based reporter. Only the Plain Dealer will have a Washington-based journalist--just one, working out of her house.

As far as Dispatch sports is concerned, they have not cared about Ohio or the MAC
since Gatehouse took over.
