It looks that Miles Brown is a high-scoring guard. We appear to be loading up on wings and guards. We will likely need one or two new inside bangers if we are to have the whole enchilada.

I'd hardly consider Vande Plas a big. 41% of his shots came from 3 and he only went to the line 41 times. If you're banging in the paint you go to the line much more than that.

Yep...very similar to Kenny Kaminski. Don't remember Kenny banging too much either.

agree to many, in my opinion, we certainly need some big guys who have touch that can fill the paint. I think the football team may have a couple big Tight Ends that can at least fill in . with hands " I have seen it before. Jerry LeAbold. he would put it all on the line. jeesh I think I was 8 at the time
and Tom Jamerson turning in his cheerleader uniform into a basketball jersey. it was fun. before I put my foot in my mouth, I was a youngster and a ball boy at that time. I knew them. great individuals!, so don't jump into conclusions and criticize . GO OHIO!

Interesting thought, but we still have three scholarships open. We don't need any football Tight Ends.

BVP's role is going to be an interesting thing to watch. He's not really a wing either. I'm just putting them into categories for generic purposes here. He's definitely more suited for a stretch 4.

I think he's just as easily a stretch 3 as a 4. If you think a 3-wing lineup is always going to consist of superduperonlywing players, then you're going to have real trouble with your roster when one pG or center gets hurt. We'll need guys that can handle multiple positions. Plus, even with a good center, we'll have to rebound by committee, which is one thing this team did very well last year.

Yeah, and unfortunately we lost 5 of our top 7 rebounders (Taylor, Carter, Kirk, Cowart and Block).

Without some legit inside bigs, the team would get killed on the glass. You can send everybody to the boards on defense and but not on offense. If you did, every opponent would fast break you to death. I bet Boals is working on getting some big guys from somewhere whether a one year grad transfer, JUCO or whatever.

Surprisingly, BVP had the best defensive rebounding rate on the team last year, even slightly higher than Doug. Bottom line is, if the season started tomorrow he is our starting center.

Although, hopefully we get a JUCO or transfer center in to start and BVP can play the 4 spot instead.

Offensively he's better on the perimeter than in the post but he did OK on defense in the post. But certainly, Ohio needs to find another more traditional big guy to pair with him.

Where is the Nate Springs fan club from back when he was signed? They had a hissy-fit when people questioned Saul offering the kid. He had a year to put on some muscle and adjust to the college game. Shouldn't they be lobbying for him to start at center and get 25 minutes a game?

What are you trying to prove by taking this angle and bringing this up? Let's just see what shakes out after a summer of workouts, see who plays when players hit the floor in November, and then evaluate stuff like this. Nate Springs could end up being a good player for all of his years in Athens. Or, maybe he won't. Either way, I'll never understand posts like this when the player is thus far unproven to be a good or bad recruit.

Precariously close to converting from being a Bobcat fan to just being a little douchey at times. Like you go looking for ways to drag the board down instead of looking for ways to add to it. Coaches like guys who are "all in", maybe us fans could be a little more like we want our players. Of course, you could be one of those guys who likes to create locker room drama.

If "locker room drama" happens on the team because of anything we post on this chat board, that would be really hard to believe.

By the way, I really like the direction Boals is going with his recruiting.

Even if people were defending his signing, I doubt anyone thought he would be our outright starter by his redshirt Freshman year. Big men often take longer to develop. Remember people ran Ethan Jacobs out of town too, and he ended up averaging 12.5 ppg at Colgate by his Senior year. Springs is likely our backup center either way this year.

This is where player development comes in. I thought it was a weak spot for the previous regime, so hopefully it will be better now.

The "locker room" is was referring to was BA and the drama was courtesy of posters who are less good team members and all about creating tension, drama and division amongst the rest of us in here. Players give a shit less what we say or do. We should strive to be more like the expectaions and behavior we demand of the guys in the actual locker room.

Signing period is open thru May 15.

One easy way to see if something's brewing is to follow Jeff Boals on twitter. He'll drop a tweet when something positive happens...

jeff said something about Fest season helping recruiting, tongue in cheek.

i think the weekend makes most sense for bigs to visit. i still remember stopping at light at College and Court and looking out the window and seeing a 24 hour teeter totter for charity thing. I was sold on the spot. how random and fantastic!

Really baffled how Saul didn't use Twitter to his advantage. It just made no sense.
