And that AD is partly responsible for , I think, the 2 largest buyouts in football history-Fisher at A&M and Kelly at LSU-$130,000,000 total. Is he on the hotseat at LSU? He should be.

The AD didn’t write those contracts or approve those. They are becoming more like HS AD’s, they line things up, but others make the decisions.

So the governor says Woodard for sure not going to be involved with the next hire.

I hope that new deputy athletic director they just brought on signed more than a memorandum of understanding.

I get the governor being concerned about where a public university is spending money but if you are a coach who is mostly looking out for himself and you hear that are you going there?

The odds of most coaches at almost any school having better winning percentages than Franklin and Kelly are low. I joked with my friends that the whole reason to take the LSU job is to know that you could go there are do really well and that 28-11 would still get you canned after 3 years and you would get paid $60M to go home.

The reason that you can live with nearly preposterous expectations is the pay and the unlikely chance that the resources ara school like that will allow me to build a national power. If that isn't the case then the expectations can't be quite as preposterous. There is a good argument that this is the right thing to do but you have to acknowledge that these things are coupled together. If I am someone like Lane Kiffin and I see the governor stepping in then I'm thinking to run from that.

Very very curious to see if the Governors comments on salary and if he puts that idea into practice, what type of candidate will take that job.

What did he say about salaries?

He seems to misunderstand that donors are paying for the buyout, not the state.

In the NBC article he is quoted that no more huge guarantees and waste of tax payer money with buy outs. Talking a performance and bonus based salary. Hope it works for him.

I don’t really know who’s paying the buyout, but the governor may have a better handle on it than most people.

My guess is that this is more like the guy on here that says that he knew the state rep that played up not letting OSU play on Peacock. He knew the whole time that this isn't really feasible for him to do anything but knew that it would play well with some stupid football fans in his district.

I understand the argument that spending hundreds of millions on a football team might have reached the point where it is above the return on investment to the university. Determining exactly where the cost/benefit reaches its end for LSU is probably well beyond the expertise of anyone here. But, like I said, I don't think that's what this was. He knows getting mad about Kelly not meeting the fan bases astronomical expectations will play well with stupid football fans. But actually doing anything to limit the funding of the football team where the end result is likely to not be a positive for the program, whether that's actually a good thing to do or not, well, Louisiana is probably literally one of the 5 or so states where THAT is least likely to play well so, other than making a scene in a speech and forcing the exit of the AD, I doubt that he'll do much if they can get actually get a Lane Kiffin or equivalent only by giving him a contract like Kelly's.

Everything I have seen says that the buyout came from donors I am sure that he knows that, but like I said, I don't think that's really the main reason for doing this. Anything related to playing up to the anger of a disappointing LSU football team is the main point. But just because it came from donors doesn't mean that it didn't hurt the university financially. Donors don't have infinite pockets. That is probably, at least in part, money that won't be donated for the next coach's contract, NIL, football facilities, or heaven forbid, donations for LSU for other things outside of the program.

The couple of times a governor has gotten involved with a college football team that I'm aware of, things did not end well. I'm sure there are more, but the ones that immediately come to mind are Marshall recently and SMU in the 80s.

I just can't believe taking your team to the coveted playoffs and not seeing it thru. Answer should always and forever be "Thank you for your interest, I am committed to this season with ____ and would be happy to discuss after our season concludes. If you can't wait that long, I am sorry to hear that and wish you the best."

I think Lane's act was getting old in Ole Miss and they more or less gave him an ultimatum. Either you stay here and stop flirting with other jobs - which he did pretty much every season he was there - or you leave. Plain and simple.

It says a lot that they didn't place the interim tag on Pete Golding.

So much for the BIG headlines the governor made on salary and guaranteed money. Gotta love politicians of poor states standing up for their poor constituents

Have you ever met Lane Kiffin? I mean if Al Davis fires you for being dishonest, then you probably are quite dishonest.

Yes I understand the personality at play, that is kind of my point of the post. It is hard for me to wrap my mind around someone being OK with this, but alas here we are with Lane.

Well, LSU is on a streak with me. They fire the coach I think it biggest scum bag in college football, and then hire the guy I’d put as the most overhyped egomaniac in the profession. I don’t think Wm. Tecumseh Sherman would be happy!

I'm giddy for Lane to go to Alabama in 2027. Collecting SEC jobs like infinity stones.
