If you were an employer and you renegotiated an extension and a raise quite literally a few months prior, how would you feel? Go to your manager after a raise and tell them you decided you need more NOW.

If you're a new President, would you want to set the precedent that you're being forced into a new negotiation every few months? What you say he accomplished unprecedented in school history - came after he already accepted the new role. That's been made clear. So what are you still yapping about? That they didn't go back to the table a few weeks earlier, just because other people also got raises at the beginning of the season? His raise was coming. All he had to do was wait. Instead he took the first job offer, because he wasn't confident in waiting. We all agree he needed paid better than the 6th or whatever it was by the end of this season. What I do not agree with is you extend your extension mid-season when you're hardly killing it. That's what you're suggesting. That they role out a $1M salary after getting molly whopped at UK? Losing to Miami again? I absolutely do not fault anyone at OU for "shoving it to the back burner" while he was 4-3. Prove it on the field, then get your raise. He accepted a new job before he proved it on the field.

To keep suggesting they steadfastly would not negotiate with him is stupid. Because they did. Again, literally months prior.

The bottom line is that he could have stayed. He didn't. Onward and upward. Time to turn the page.

Just as him overplaying his argument does him no good, you overplaying yours does you no good. Yes, Albin renegotiated his contract "a few" months earlier, but only if you define "a few" as 18-22, since the last re-negotiation took place after the 2022 season. Most people would think "a few" means 2-3, not 18-22, so most would consider your post above to be false. If he got a raise after the 2023 season, it was because it was in the 2022 contract.

Great news for Ohio! Honestly, I would've taken this scenario in a second if you told me right after Tim Albin bolted.

Keep both your offensive and defensive minds in place and get a much younger head coach that the players seem to like.

Incredible.

Really makes me wonder what happened with Albin. Usually when a coach bolts in this fashion, his top assistants and some players follow.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

At this point, I think we all know what happened - though the true behind the scenes we may never know. Albin underplayed his hand, took what most of us see as a lateral at best move, and a rebuilding lateral move at that to spite Julie (if we take what an Albin confidants burner account was saying the night and day preceding). Likely burned some coaches by accepting a new role before the championship game and now he’s left having to put something together by himself.

Couldn’t be more excited to put this behind us and never talk about it again. Like I said the moment it happened - we’re gonna be fine. We ARE fine. In fact, I think we came at pretty damn rosey.

It’s Albin that will have to answer a lot of questions.

I don't think we'll ever know the details, but I don't think we need to. Poisoning the well is never useful. Julie seems to have given Smith the things that Tim supposedly wanted, a longer contract and more money, so hopefully Smith is happy, and Tim apparently got what he wanted from Charlotte. What Ohio needs to do is to continue to take care of business, and continue to win. What Tim needs to do is to take care of his own business, and see if he can make Charlotte win.

Faanes to Charlotte with Timmy. Also really hope this article isn’t true. Says OU is slashing football operating budget.

Football scoop is generally spot on. Started 20 years ago by coaches and former coaches. Information there is usually spot on and from the bowels of an athletic department.

Given the timing of it (active portal, etc.), here I thought it might be some sort of strategic deception by one party or the other.

You have good instincts.

Right now we have more assistants staying than heading to Charlotte. My guess is this was put there to entice them southward.

I’m pretty sure Rudolph is going to UNCC along with Faines. DLOs most recent tweet leads me to think he’s staying. Not sure about the rest.

Dlo, Tremayne I would think are likely to stay.

Rudolph I'm surprised wasn't at Albin's presser.

Recent position coach hires...
WR - Andre Allen - Brian's guy.

TE - Metz - Has been with OU since 2020. Wife is an alum. Would probably leave if I were him and WR's was on the table.

DE's - Mattix - Mattix was the defensive coordinator at SDSU for a few years, I bet he's looking to be more than just someones pass rush specialist. Could likely take LB's from Faanes.

I hate to slander a person after they're gone but a lot of this is coming off as sour grapes by Tim Albin. I would venture that he's the source in the article talking about OU slashing their budget or someone really close to him.

I wouldn't buy too much into it with the recent coaches that have stayed on Smith's staff. Even if true, Ohio is still in position to be really competitive in the MAC moving forward.

I feel pretty good about Coach Smith filling his staff with VERY good coaches. Welcome to Ohio Football to all the new hires and thanks to all who have stayed.

Based on X follows, I’m saying this guy is a candidate to replace Rudolph. Spent last season at Auburn.

So based on this announcement it looks like Brian Metz (TE's), Allen Rudolph (OL) Nate Faanes (Co-DC/LB) and Kurt Mattix (DE's) all will not be back next season.

So to summarize:

B Smith - Elevated to head coach.
Hauser - Stays as DC and elevated to associate HC
Isphording - Elevated to Offensive Coordinator
Allen - Stays as WR coach.
Scott - Stays as DL coach.
D Smith - Stays as DB coach.

Faanes - Left for Charlotte (was ST & LB coach)
Rudolph - Left for Charlotte (was OL coach)

Not sure where all that leaves us on what is left to settle.

Leaves us with Metz and Mattix. They’re either headed to Charlotte, have yet to to decide, or are going to a a third team.

So, to recap, in 17 days on the job we have Albin confirmed with only 2 on-field assistants. In 5 days, we have Smith with 6 former Albin assistants (incl. himself) staying behind.

Per Grant Kiefer of WOUB, Brian Metz is headed to Charlotte with Coach Albin.
