Just wondering how you are set for 2023, you had a great season last year. If you can make to San Diego it will be a wonderful trip the new stadium is fantastic IN august if the game is at night most likely 90 degrees falling to maybe 80 or os at 8OO pm. be
We should very talented on defense though we lost a few guys m. We are loaded at
lBer, DB,(several NFL prospects) decent but young defensive line.,. Should be a top 25 Defense as usual. I would grade them DL B-,LDer B+,DB;s A .overall B+
The offense was awful last year 330 yds game with 21 points. We could be worse this year. There is one proven good offensive lineman Benett transferred from Okies State last year. After that inexperience, not much there a couple look like they have solid talent but are very young. QB is always a problem at SDSU for the last 10 years,.
Not since Ryan Lindley who has come back as QB and OC Coach.
Returning starter Jalen Mayden was a four-star recruit at Miss State a few years ago. He was doing good when brought in last year, and did amazing his first few games, last two games pics galore. He may be beaten out by another young guy Crum who has some talent but, It's all iffy. WR's lost our two wo best, but some raw talent but very average. A great TE corps. sO my grades Offense overall C-,
WR's c+,OLine C-, RB's B, TE's A-, QB C+

There is a lot of talent at running back several highly-rated freshmen. They are very fast 10.6 10.7 100 meter guys. USC transfer Kenan Christon a former State 100-meter champ and a 220 RB Armstead has talent. Of course, they do have to have a hole to run through(Aye there is the Rub) . This might be Brady Hokes last year because we will be about 6-6 unless he turns miracle on the offense(like four. n Studs at OT and OG from the portal)Stay happy and I hope you win the MAC again

Ohio returns nearly everyone from a very productive offense. They had a lot of injury issues last year, particularly at QB and RB, and at times were playing a variety of walkons at RB, including a former walkon who had left the team, but returned to help the team out. They were down to their 3rd string QB from the middle of the Ball State game until the end of the season. They have a great starting QB, and are very deep and skilled at WR.

The defense is another matter. Last year the defense was very poor early in the year, but gelled into a very good defense by the end of the year. Many/most of those players are gone, and Ohio will need to build a new defense this year. Early on, Ohio may be forced to win via MACtion (i.e., outscore the the other team. Last year included a 41-38 win over FAU and a 59-52 win over Fordham in the early going).

Welcome to BA.

Good summary but I would add important information that our first string quarterback, Kurtis Rourke, was MAC POY and his injury late in the year was a torn ACL. He had very little swelling and everything we have heard implies that he still might be able to go against SDSU. He will have limited practice most of the off-season.

Greetings from The People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio. No joke, that’s what many often call it.

If Rourke plays, you’ve got your hands full. The dude is legit. Makes next level decisions and throws.

Huge win over Alabama and former Bobcat Mark Sears. Good luck this weekend.

What’s the fan base like there?

Also, you think the PAC12 is a real possibility?

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

SDSU's entrance into the Pac-12 is inevitable I think, but am not sure it will happen in the next media deals aftermath, it might be five years away. If that happens I suspect we will get an offer along with Fresno State to the Big 12. Fresno atop Agg school might fit in with the big 12 better.

Our basketball fans are rabid and Viejas is rocking and full every game.'The Show" as they call themselves(the student loonies) really put on one. Football fans are much more sedate, the fan base has a lot of old guys full of ex-jarheads(me included) and swabbies. In our season ticket holder group, we got one 82nd airborne vet, one Navy Seal, A Gunny,a Couple of Marine Cannon Cockers(deaf as doornails) and former Coastie Rescue swimmer along with three Navy Cheifs and our commanding officers(wives). Snapdragon has Craft Beer everywhere and we old vets drink it.

Our attendance is pretty good for a G5 but could be better. The Old stadium was a mess at the end. When the Aztecs had explosive offenses they would get 45k. Student enrollee will go up greatly with the new campus(around the stadium). The AD figures the rental of the stadium which is owned by SDSU not the city anymore will bring in 20 million for the programs outside of football. MLS, Women's soccer, rugby concerts, etc. That's already happening.
If Jalen Mayden our QB gets back to form, he is a load 225 and can run like hell.He switched to safety last fall ad was great eh the QBs went done and I h came. I would expect a low-scoring game as it is tough to beat that 3-3-5 when its run right and you do not see it a lot. SO if your Qb is back I think maybe something like 17-7 you win. Take care

I know you are looking at it from a different angle, and there are a few optimists among the posters here who will tell you every year that Ohio is going to be great, but I think that it is hard for most of us to imagine holding anyone to 7 points. We had a veteran defense last year and they really struggled early adapting in the first year of a 3-3-5. They got better and by the end of the year we were on our third string QB and the defense was at that point the better unit. We lost the MAC Championship by that 17-7 score. But we lose a lot on defense, and while the potential is there for Ohio having one of the better G5 offenses it remains to be seen if we can come out sharp out of the gate. Even if Rourke plays his practice will have been limited and the plays they have him run might be limited as well. Really, Oddsmakers are going to have a lot to deal with when they try to put a line on this game.

-Fresno State won't get into the PAC-12 with that academic profile. UNLV makes more sense as they add a fast growing state and emerging TV market. Cheap flights for everyone out west. For SDSU, 20 million outside the department in fees with the new stadium is great for funding a future PAC-12 department.

-High scoring offense are the way to go, I keep telling this board. Some would prefer an all MAC punter and first team inside linebacker with 200 tackles because the defensive line applies no pressure up front. Offense wins championships, defense wins division titles. Boise State first had the explosive offense and used its track record to gradually improve its recruiting on the defensive side of the ball.

-First FB game of the season anything could happen. Always the possibility of a unit not being ready first week. For this reason I'm not bold enough to make a prediction in this game. Once fall practices get started maybe.

Fresno State is a good match for the Big 12, not the PAC 12. Not only academic also facilities are old as well. Only mentioned Fresno as a possible partner if SDSU gets snubbed by Pac-12 and looks at a Big 12 travel partner, though UNLV might be better. The only team hated more by Aztec fans than Fresno is BYU.

To be fair I don't think the PAC 12 has much choice if they want to stick around much longer. The folks at Berkeley and Stanford (and UW for that matter) are going to have to wipe the sweat off their collective brows and admit they need to loosen their restrictions on who they let in the conference based on their academic profile. Oregon State is known for their forestry school and plays a chainsaw over the PA system at Reser Stadium for God's sake.

As it stands now they have no schools south of the Bay Area in the entire state of California. THAT'S CRAZY. They'd be better off going strength in numbers at this point. SDSU, Fresno, Boise and CSU are my best bets simply from a football product standpoint plus geographic normalcy, but I'd love to know from a current MWC fan if that fits the bill (leaving out the obvious academic stuff). They don't really "need" UNLV with both football and basketball conference championship games already being played there. That's like the MAC taking on Cleveland State just because they're in Cleveland. I think they really screwed the pooch letting BYU walk over to the Big 12, but that was before we knew about UCLA and USC and there again lies another issue they need to rethink: the Mormon faith.

A lot of people forget this but SDSU has been hella good against the PAC 12 in the recent past. I think 7-5 in the last decade?

Then on top of that SDSU could be defending national basketball champions by Monday. Good set up for adding them to the PAC-12.

I'd echo the above thoughts... I am pretty confident our offense will be able to put some points on the board next year... Defense is a huge question with most of our unit graduating.

I've seen crazier things happen.

The most likely person is Gianni Spetic:
https://www.kohlskicking.com/player-profiles/gianni-spetic

He will be competing for the job with Alex Kasee:
https://www.kohlskicking.com/player-profiles/alexander-kasee

Either may well be capable of kicking 50 yarders. We will have to see who wins the job, and how they do, but I don't think PK will be an issue.

Interesting note regarding San Diego State and the PAC-12:

If SDSU were to leave the Mountain West right now, they'd pay an exit fee of about $17 million. That number triples after July 1st.

Really smart of the league to charge that high of a fee in order to not lose your product. For reference, Cincinnati paid about $10 million to leave the AAC for the Big XII.

I watched some of the USMNT vs Panama last night which was played at Snapdragon Stadium. It started about the same time as our game will and it looked very hot. The teams took a hydration break after 22 minutes. I forget if this is now a common thing in warmer weather soccer. By the end of the first half, the US team looked spent but Panama seemed in better condition. I looked at my weather app for San Diego and it said it was only 78 degrees, so I don't know what to make of that.
