Could this be a trap game? A close, emotional win for them over in-state rival Iowa yesterday; B12 opener at home vs Baylor next weekend. Could they look past a G5 team that just lost by 36?

Like this way of thinking. I think all of that is possible. Go OHIO!

A win here would go a long way for the team that wants to play and win more games than last year.
Put last week in the rear view mirror, and move on.

The bad: we did not put up much of a fight against PSU

The good: Iowa St is not PSU

That's about all I got on this one.

I can see this week's game being in doubt a little longer and the level of entertainment higher. Margin will be smaller but ultimate outcome the same.

That's pretty much where I'm at as well. Hoping ISU plays bad and maybe we can get a cheap turnover for points to keep us in it.

The bookies have the spread at around 17.5, so they're getting about a TD less love than Penn St got last week.

They've crept into this week's polls -- 40th in the AP, 46th in the coaches poll.

I'm probably crazy, but I think that this game is winnable. PSU is a potential National Championship caliber team. ISU is a potential contender for the B-12whatever championship, with an emphasis on the word "potential." Those are vastly different resumes.

I noticed no Alec Burton on the 2 deep. Is he injured? I know we’ve seen a lot of Kacmarek and Foster.

I think Albin said Burton was injured in his press conference.

I hope Burton's press conference isn't too seriously injured. ;)

Brings to mind one of the great lines from "The Thin Man":

Nick Charles: I'm a hero. I was shot twice in the Tribune.
Nora Charles: I read where you were shot 5 times in the tabloids.
Nick Charles: It's not true. He didn't come anywhere near my tabloids.

The censors objected to it, but it made it into the final print anyway.

I oddly feel a little bit better after watching this weeks press conference with Albin. Realistically we weren't going to beat Penn State and most likely won't beat Iowa State, but improvement (better tackling) and establishing depth going into MAC play will crucial if we want a shot to get to the MACC.

That's funny OCF. Penn State won't finish the year in the top 15. They don't have the passing game to contend.

If we stay under that line I will be thrilled. I figured it would be 21+.

It's likely to be tough scoring against ISU if they're on their game. They've given up 17 points total in their first two games (SEMO and impotent Iowa), and that's probably why Caesar's over/under is 48 on an 18.5-pt spread. That would make the score something like 33-15. If Ohio scores 20+ it'll be a good outing. The team did pretty well not beating themselves last week, and that'll have to happen again tomorrow to stay with ISU.

Let’s visit this again at the end of the season. I think they are going to in the top 4. You think they won’t make the top 15. Tomorrows game against Auburn should give a preliminary indication of who is on the right track. PSU is 22nd this week. A win over unranked Auburn will bounce them up a bit. They have most of their tough conference games at home this year, which should give them an edge against OSU and MSU. They do have to play UMich on the road, and, of course, they might stub their toes against the mighty Gophers. I think that their passing is under-rated, especially with Drew Allar. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him as the starting QB by the second half of the season. This guy’s not your average raw freshman QB. He was rated the top QB in the nation out of high school his senior year and was the third rated player in that year’s cohort.

I think we are gonna learn a lot about both teams in this one, good match for both teams to develop.

Iowa State's special teams are a big question mark in this one but maybe they pull it together this week. Not only did the Hawkeyes block two punts last week but in week one, the FCS team almost blocked a punt or two. Also, ISU's kicker is new, a frosh, and his only FG attempt last week was a 22 yarder that cleared the crossbar by about 6 feet.

Where ISU's offense is to this point is a question mark. ISU definitely has some real talent especially the WR Hutchinson, who looks like a day one or two NFL draft pick. The FCS school ISU played in week one put up little pressure on the young ISU QB so he had all day to throw but FCS still only gave up a few explosive plays in the passing game and one in the running game.

ISU only scored 10 against Iowa Hawkeye's but the hawkeyes defense looked really legit.

Ohio needs to find a way to limit explosive/gimme plays and get a few of their own. I dont think the ISU RB is as explosive as the PSU runner so hopefully our left end wont get exploited this week for multiple explosive scores. I think Ohio's front line DBs can keep things in check for the most part in the passing game but for the back ups who sub in from time-to-time, its tougher to hold things together.

Ohio will be the best offense ISU has faced this year if the Bobcats play near their capabilities. The FCS school ISU faced was ok at times but no real explosive players on caliber of Bangura, Bostic, or Wiglusz. Iowa Hawkeye's offense has been putrid through two weeks, not scoring a TD against a good FCS school in week one and only getting a TD against ISU due to a blocked punt giving possession inside the 5-yard line.

Ohio will have some opportunities for explosive plays this week. I like Bangura to have an opportunity on the edges of ISUs defense but he'll have to make a safety or LB miss to hit some big plays.

Rourke needs to be more accurate this week and WRs need to win some one-on-ones. Sure, we were not going to beat that PSU team but I think there was some throws Rourke can hit last week which he did not.

In the end, I hope Ohio executes to its capabilities and limits the kind of explosive plays like last week that lead to blowouts.

And would it be too much to ask that we dont have to start a drive inside our two-yard line this week?

I know we can say that at least we didn't turn the ball over but there were missed opportunities. The throws that I thought we could rely on from KR were missed. Bad throws on 3rd down kept us from extending drives last week. The safety, even thought it might have been a better outcome than punting from the endzone there, told me we weren't ready for primetime. That was a nervous nelly play. We shit the bed. We weren't going to beat Penn State but it should not have been a 36 point spread. The defense certainly met a RB that was really fast to the edge, but we were constantly out of position. There's no way a tailback should bounce outside and have so much room to run so many times. That was bad scheming and beating ourselves.

I don't think the sky is falling after last week, but we could have done better. I hope and think we'll be better today, but let's see.

Only if it's after a goal-line stand. I'd like to see our D stand up and keep ISU out of the end zone in that situation.

Now, I'd also like to see the QB under center and run a keeper (with a push from a couple RBs) inside our two. But THAT may be too much to ask.

Do we watch film on how to NOT start games on the road and then execute perfectly?

Case in point: catch punt on 1 yard line in hostile environment. My goodness what is going on.
