Food for thought:

Maybe, whether as head coach, or defensive head coach, an Ohio native, may have interest in coming to Athens. Like Frank Solich (first lightening
in a bottle), a former head coach @ Nebraska, who has returned to his roots, back in Ohio --- maybe either Tim Albin or the OU Athletic Director, should talk with, and gauge the interest of Bo Pelini.
Could certainly get the defense corrected & maybe the whole team.
Like Solich, may like Athens & stick around a while.

Something has to be done & fast!!!

Recruits aren't going to be interested in coming here, with the play and results one is seeing.

Thats a really bad idea. Ask anyone at Youngstown State or LSU. Look elsewhere.

And pass on Carl, too. He was reinstated last month at Cardinal Mooney as HC/AD after being on administrative leave for a domestic violence charge that prosecutors dismissed.

How would we feel about Derek Mason?

Or, maybe we could entice Glenn Mason out of retirement. Heck, he almost was offerred the job here when we picked Cleve Bryant instead. Sort of a very late do-over you might say.

Honestly, he's probably a good choice. The major drawback is that Vanderbilt regressed after a nice run under Franklin.

Would it be attractive to him? Would it be a pay cut given his current job? Would he see it as a better opportunity to get back to a P5 HC gig?

Did Vanderbilt regress because of Mason or because that's the real life of Vanderbilt in the SEC? Franklin got lucky in that the powers in the East (UGA, Florida and Tennesse) were all going through some type of dysfunction at one time or another while Franklin was head coach. South Carolina was OK but slightly failing under Spurrier in his later years, Kentucky hadn't risen yet to what they are now under Stoops and Mizzou was the new kid on the block. The Vandy situation was perfect for Franklin at the time.

For Mason it wasn't.

How about Kevin Lightner? He's been doing great things over in Japan. He's a coaching legend there, and has famarility with OHIO and ties to Nebraska, so he could keep that pipline going!

Maybe I should have said, "regressed to the mean" for Vanderbilt. He did take over a team that was having success. I did say he was a very good candidate. This is because he has coached at a high level and did not underperform the majority of his predecessors. Vanderbilt is a bit of a no win situation.
