I see some of the MAC schools have announced their crossover games for 2021. I have found 2 of Ohio's 3 crossover games. Ohio will host Toledo and play at EMU. The other crossover game should be a home game as well.

Here's to hoping Toledo is played on a Saturday. Would love to bring down the Northwest Ohio chapter this fall to refill the Court St coffers

Should be CMU. We played them at Mt. Pleasant this past season (such as it was). Before the covid-shortened season, we were originally scheduled to play at Toledo and CMU and have EMU at home.

It would be nice if Ohio would just announce who the opponents are like most every MAC team has done already. Guess that's expecting too much.

The conference home games will be Central, Kent, Miami, and Toledo. The rest of the East division plus Eastern will be the road games.

We've also dropped Gardner Webb and added Duquesne. There was no way the GW game was going to work around the conference schedule without having a straight up bye in week two of the season.

No, but they inquired about Marietta College!

Hey, the Dukes aren't all that bad. In 2019 they finished 6-5, including a road win vs Dayton, which finished 8-3. GW was 3-9, so this is really a step up.

That’s too bad. I remember that last time we played GW, I had the opportunity to talk with some GW fans. They were really nice people, who seemed to enjoy their trip to Athens. Also, GW plays some good football. They’ve played some really tight games against FBS competition, including a three-point loss to Marshall and victory over Akron. The Dukes, I think, are much weaker competition, probably on the level of the Pakersburg YMCA, as BTC so delicately points out.

Are we really moaning about the quality of our annual FCS opponent? Yes, I know the NEC isn't the peak of FCS football, but Duquesne hasn't had a losing season since 2012. I have to think they would pose more fight than a Hampton or a Norfolk State.

Ohio gets a very favorable crossover schedule. Ohio avoids Ball State who is expected to return all but one starter. Ohio also gets two games at home and only one on the road, and the road game is bottom tier EMU.

So what? The quality of a team isn't determined by whether they're on schollies. It's how they do on the field. There are some really piss-poor teams that hand out 85 schollies every year.

Go ask the athletics dept. My guess is it's because we can and we believe we need to use them as a means to lure players to come to Ohio instead of going somewhere else. Dayton, without handing out schollies, had a better record than about 100 other 1AA (aka FCS) teams, most of which do give out schollies. So, simply handing out schollies is no indication of the quality of the team on the field.

YOU do realize that Dayton did not play any fully funded FCS scholarship schools. The best is Robert Morris who gives about 30 equivalency scholarships. Dayton competes against for the most part like minded schools and their conference is FCS non-scholarhip. So just touting the record in FCS disingenuous. There is a reason they do not (rarely) go to the FCS playoffs. Like in 1996 when Dayton went 11-0 in FCS play and did NOT make the playoffs. FCS is NOT even within it's own realm not Apples to Apples! They made the FCS play-offs in 2015 and lost in the first round to Western Illinois.

So what you're saying is that teams that don't offer scholarships are inferior because they play other teams that don't offer scholarships. Nice piece of circular logic but it still doesn't prove your point that Dayton is somehow an inferior team because it doesn't offer scholarships.

As for losing in the first round of the playoffs in 2015, at least they MADE the playoffs, which is better than more than 100 1AA teams (most of whom offered scholarships) did that season. Three other teams lost in the first round that year -- Duquesne (yes, Duquesne) New Hampshire and Southern Utah, all of which offer scholarships. The fact that a non-scholarship team lost to a team that offers scholarships proves only that they were outplayed and/or out-coached that day.

And as for why Dayton didn't receive a playoff bid in 1996, it's because the NCAA didn't offer automatic or at-large bids to non-scholarship 1AA conferences back then. The NCAA got over its bias in 2012.

If OHIO played Dayton in football these days, I'd bet the ranch on an OHIO victory by a comfortable margin. Not like in the old days when Dayton was a strong program and could have easily competed in the MAC. I remember one game in the fall of 1960. I was at Wittenberg, and listened to the game on my transistor radio siting outside my dormitory. It was tuned to a Dayton station. Going into the fourth quarter Dayton had a comfortable 3 TD lead. But, OHIO went to work and scored enough unanswered points to win the game, with the go-ahead score coming in the final seconds. One of the greatest comebacks in school history. The Dayton announcers was practically in tears at the outcome of the game, as he had thought going into the 4th Qt. that the Flyers had it in the bag. Dayton football is now a shadow of its former self.

Probably, but you never know. A couple years ago Ohio nearly lost to a Howard team that finished the season 4-6. Anything can happen.

I don't know that the whole a non-scholarship team won ten games and made the playoffs is a great argument that the non-scholarship team can play. A Pioneer League team plays almost all of its games against other non-scholarship teams and one is now guaranteed to make the playoffs. This is pretty much guaranteed to happen by the rules.

I don't think that the fact that every year there are basketball teams in the SWAC, MEAC, Big South, NEC... that win 20 games and make the NCAA tournament that these conferences are on the level of the better mid-majors and certainly not the P6.

Remember that game well. Their QB was Cam Newton's brother. My daughter's father-in-law, a Howard alumnus, was with us at that game, and he was quite pleased at their performance. I agree that you never know for sure, but I'd still bet on a double-digit victory if we played Dayton these days.
