In parenthesis comment I believe to be incorrect.

A few years ago: Browns vs Steelers with time running short before half, QB Rothlesberger gets flushed out of the pocket and heads up field to get into field goal range and right before the clock expired, slid to the ground and called timeout allowing for a field goal. No Brown was nearby.

OK.

Yes because the Bobcats need all the support they can get. OSU is hurting us with the trademark thing. I was out watching a little of the playoff game with Clemson and a guy from Virginia Tech was calling OSU as "Ohio". Fortunately he was rooting for the AAC team. There are other things like refusing to play in-state basketball teams which hurt the Bobcats. They could play us 1:1 and keep the money in-state.

In the NFL the moment you begin your slide you are down immediately, no contact or touching needed, one of the 2,075 rules exceptions the NFL has.

In general I would have to say that our play calling was very good. Pleased to see we came out of the gate with Rourke running. This action by itself set the tone.
Rourke did make 1 turnover on that sweep play which impacted us not putting points on the board, 3 or 7. The other turnover was legit as the D player was unimpeded to Rourke, Leuhrman missed that block.

WE WON AND WE SHOULD BE PLEASED

Three bowl Ws in a row - I am pleased!

Pretty competitive game. Strong to Cooks was an impressive connection for Nevada. Thought our defensive line gave great pressure throughout the first half and then Nevada started throwing quicker passes. Obviously Conrad made the HUGE play to force the fumble - NO IDEA what Nevada was thinking with that playcall. They had a few very questionable gameplay decisions.

Love the way Ross looked on the speed option - his speed bought us a couple of 4th down conversions. And Tuggle is pretty excellent as well, great vision of the field on his big run.

Rourke remains an absolute delight to watch. Seeing him run the option is a thing of beauty. Sad the Rourke Era is over but it was a pleasure to follow and support him throughout his OHIO career. Hagan as well. Fitting they both ended with excellent games.

Congrats to OUr Seniors and all the guys on a job well done yesterday.

Amazing performance and really fun to watch.

Hagan standing up a RB at the goalline with 50 pounds on him was my favorite play of the game.

Agree on all of that. The Hagan drop in the final minutes was a heartbreaker, both for OU fans and for Hagan himself. That was a gift wrapped finish and he couldn't hang on. Felt like a gut punch at the moment, but the team came through.

Tuggle's performance was even more impressive when you consider that, per one of the articles, he broke a finger during pre-game warmups.

Big win to cap off the season vs a MWC program. Bobcats finish with a winning record and impressive effort in bowl game for third year in a row. This all helps recruiting. Back to back wins over the MWC in bowl games. That helps Ohio overcome recruits perception that the MAC is not at the level of the MWC. Ohio can say we have beaten the MWC 3 times under Solich in Bowls.

I presume so, and this was certainly a better option than a green smoothie (Kent State).  Here are more pictures:

Why was the Nevada QB having control of the ball and the ground causing the loss of the ball considered a fumble?

What is the rule on that play? Does a player have to have another part of his body on the ground? Why is touching down a ball on say a punt with no other part of the players body on the ground considered downing the punt but a ball carrier putting the ball on the ground isn't considered downing it?

Had the QB first hit the ground with the back of his hand/wrist then it wouldn't have been a fumble?

I am happy for the Frank French Fry Bath but don't like to benefit from plays like that.

Hats off to the defensive line--they put pressure on the QB and other than the wildcat plays, totally shut down the Packs running attack!

I've always heard "the ground can't cause a fumble, yet I've never seen a case where the ball touched the ground and was knocked loose before the player himself hit the ground. I'm sure BTC can explain the rule in detail. The one thing I noticed was that they took a very long time making a decision in the replay booth, and the film was absolutely unambiguous. They certainly weren't in doubt about what they saw on film, so I presume the extra time was to make sure they applied the rule correctly.

By the way, here's a shortened 14 minute version of the game, for those that want to re-watch it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dwhpnIughM

BTC did explain it to me. When the player touched the ground with the ball, he was not down. He can use his hand, or even the ball, to balance himself. Thus, when the ball came loose, he was not down. The rule that the "ground can not cause a fumble" applies in situations where the player is down, as where he hits the ground and is down, and loses possession simultaneously.

I don't care what others say, a bowl win and to achieve another winning season is not a bad thing. Some on this website will not be excited about another bowl win, but would they criticize a few wins in the CBI/CIT tourney in basketball. Three consecutive bowl wins along with three bowl game covers in Vegas is something that hasn't been done in Athens. I'm like countless other fans and wanted a league title, but it wasn't in the cards. Maybe some of these fans who are constantly negative about the current Bobcat football program can't remember the dark ages for Ohio football? Maybe they just like to complain alot? Go Bobcats and thank you Srs. for your many years of service.

Thanks for this explanation. I, like many on this board, had misinterpreted the "ground can't cause a fumble" mantra and thought it was an actual rule. Therefore, despite what the announcers were saying, I fully expected the fumble call to be overturned. I guess "ground can't cause a fumble" is the football equivalent of the "over-the-back" foul in the round-ball sport. It's a general statement about something that's often but not always true. Many times when a player goes "over the back" of an opponent he fouls him, but the foul is the foul, not the mere act of going over the back.
