If u subscribe, there is a lengthy Bobcat football piece. First part is an interview with Frank, second a prospectus on the upcoming season. It's better than anything we'll find in the preseason mags, including the vastly over-rated Phil Steel mag.

Very comprehensive article .... absolutley loved these two quotes from Frank

“Everybody knows Ohio plays football now. At one time they didn’t,” said Solich. “We’ve been able to establish winning seasons — that helps tremendously in recruiting. Now we’re to the point that it’s time, maybe past time, to take another step or two. That’s what’s exciting to me and exciting for this program.”

“We need to start getting in the Top 25 and do that with regularity. If you do that, your chance at a New Year’s Bowl certainly escalates,” said Solich. “That’s not our driving force right now — we’d love to get there and we plan on getting there—but our driving force is to make sure that we continue to win football games. Let’s get the MAC done first. Those are all goals that are reachable and attainable for us, but we have to take care of the first one to get to the next one.”

Sums up everything I've been saying about this program for the last few years ... much to the chagrin of some on this board.

I don't think there is as much disagreement as some people think. I think it's a modern internet/social media thing to pick up on minor changes in wording, and turn it into full fledged disagreements. I think everyone here wants to see the program continue to advance, and to do that, everyone agrees that they need to win a MACC, and they need to shoot for the Top 25. I also think everyone here would agree that Ohio football is better now than it was in the 2000-2004 time frame. I think most or all would agree that Ohio football the last three years were better than the three before them. I think most would agree that Ohio football has also improved it's off-the-field image. Beyond that, how we interpret those data points, and how urgently we see the need to accomplish any specific goal in any specific time frame is where we disagree, and also on how likely those goals are to be met in that time frame.

I've been beating the drum for The Athletic - and unless you only care about MAC sports, it's well, well worth your investment of about $5 a month. If you follow any of the pro sports, or larger market college sports, it's worth it.

I wouldn't say the Steele mag is overrated, it serves a purpose and that purpose is to provide boatloads of information and his predictions are usually the closest of any preview mag out there.

But you are correct in that there is way more stuff out there. I'm partial to reading the statistical analysis so I like Bill Connelly's work over at SB Nation. The Athletic is becoming more appealing though!

L.C., thanks for pointing this out. While I feel like I should knock on wood, you're exactly right. I (along with most people) never notice when players stay out of trouble, it only seems to make the radar when they slip up off the field. There may be small, isolated events over the last three or four years, but these teams seem to be made up of talented and well-rounded men. They certainly are an easy team to cheer for along with the coaching staff.

Agree with all of this. But there is a vocal group that still gets irritated when people dare bring up the late season stumbles that have cost this program from taking that next step. "How can you not be happy with an 8-win season!!!! ARGHHHH!!!"

You know they're out there.

I don't think anyone internally or externally is taking for granted where Ohio football is as a program on and off the field currently in comparison to the past.

It's just nice to see the head man reinforcing their internal frustration and drive to continue to raise this program to another level (i.e. MACC & nat'l rankings)

BTW ... Rourke getting some attention from CBS Sports ... 14th best QB in the land.

Again, I agree, but despite how vociferously people express their opinions, we agree on more than we disagree on. We all want Ohio to take that next step. We all agree that they haven't yet.

Couple things. A request. Be cool if when you use quotes you qualify them with date and source. Finally, about #12's fine rating, 2018 he was blessed to have All MAC 1st Team players at RB, WR, LT, LG and a 2nD Team RG. Please don't be too disappointed if things are a little rougher without that talent around him.

The players have always been that way. The impressive part is the program has raised its athleticism without having to lower it standards like Baylor and Louisville did.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

What do you call a 6-0 home performance at a clip of 52ppg? Ohio certainly played like a New Year's team last year but just didn't get it done in a couple of games (Cincinnati, Miami) that would have moved them directly into contention. As far as the Top 25 Ohio should have ended the season ranked in the Top 25 for smoking SDSU but the national press didn't pick up on it.

What talent? None of these guys were first rounder or anything to make it obvious the program was going to take a step back at a couple positions.

What Bobcat fans fail to realize is that the offense has a lot of unproven talent returning. At WR, Cox, Buckner and the tall lanky WR Hooks will be very good and they also return Odom at WR. TE's will be good and Ross at RB along with a host of others will not be shabby either. The OL loses both Lowery and Anderson along with Wood, but they also return Pleasants, Kittrell, Hayes and Meservey who have started and logged in a bunch of playing time on the line the past two years. I haven't mentioned the QB who has been responsible for 77 tds the last two seasons and is one of the best QB's in the league. The D is also solid and along with an experienced punter/kicker this Bobcat team will be a handful for most teams.
